"Senator Obama has revealed himself to be nothing more than a short- sighted, inexperienced politician willing to say anything to get a vote. But today, the nation's coal industry and those who support it have a better understanding of his true mission, to 'bankrupt' our industry, put tens of thousands out of work and cause unprecedented increases in electricity prices.-

American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity Statement
Last update: 12:49 p.m. EST Nov. 3, 2008
ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov 03, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- As the hours of the 2008 election wind down, both Senator Obama and Senator McCain continue to express their strong support for coal, America's most abundant energy resource, during a campaign that has seen energy security and costs at the forefront of the national debate.
In the past year, the presidential candidates have heard directly from thousands of Americans who advocate the use of coal to generate electricity in town hall meetings, on street corners, and in people's homes. As they refined their policy positions, both Senator McCain and Senator Obama have gained a deeper understanding of coal, which fuels half of America's electricity. Moreover, both Senators Obama and McCain have recognized that investing in new coal-based power plants and advanced technologies that will be retrofitted to existing power plants will create thousands upon thousands of jobs for American workers and help begin to rebuild our economy.
On the campaign trail this fall, Senator Obama has said, "I am a big proponent of clean-coal technology and I want us to move rapidly in developing those sequestration technologies that are required. A huge percentage of our electricity is generated by coal. What we need to do though is to put clean coal technology on the fast track and that means money. It means investment in research."
Likewise, Senator McCain has recently said, "Perhaps no advancement in energy technology could mean more to America than the clean burning of coal and the capture and storage of carbon emissions. This single achievement will open vast amounts of our oldest and most abundant resource. And it will deliver not only electricity but jobs to some of the areas hardest hit by our economic troubles."
The acknowledgement by both presidential candidates of coal's vital role in America's energy future is the cornerstone of sound policymaking at the federal, state, and local levels, according to Steve Miller, President of the American Coalition for Clean Coal Electricity. Miller pointed out that: -

Nowhere man: a farewell to Dubya, all-time loser in presidential history
"Forgotten but not gone" could now be said for the hapless 43rd President of the United States as the daylight draws mercifully in on his reign of misfortune and calamity. How is he bearing up, one wonders, as the candidate from his own party treats him as the carrier of some sort of infectious political disease? How telling was it that the most impassioned moment in John McCain's performance in the final debate was when he declared: "I am not George Bush."
While George Bush is kept at arm's length from the campaign, his campaign style lives on as Obama is stigmatised as a terrorist-friendly stealth-socialist, too deeply unAmerican to be let anywhere near the Oval Office. "He just doesn't see America as we do" says Sarah Palin trying to wink her way into Dick Cheney's seat. McCain is betting the house that this way of doing politics has at least one more hurrah left in it.
The Bush presidency is the spectre haunting the feast in more than tactics. Although every conservative administration since Ronald Reagan has promised to deliver, through supply-side stimulation, economic growth without bloated deficits, they have never been vindicated in their blind faith in what Bush senior once rashly called "voodoo economics". Consistently, they have brought the US Wall Street crashes and recessions along with massive deficits. -

Biden let the cat out of the bag but no one paid any attention:
Some great rope line video from Joe Biden's recent Ohio swing, where he was asked by an anti-pollution campaigner about clean coal -- a controversial approach in Democratic circles for which Obama has voiced support, particularly during the Kentucky primary.
Biden's apparent answer: He supports clean coal for China, but not for the United States.
"No coal plants here in America," he said. "Build them, if they're going to build them, over there. Make them clean."
"We’re not supporting clean coal," he said of himself and Obama

How can you support something that doesn't exist. Clean coal doesn't exist yet. They can capture the CO2 but then what. It, at best, is half a solution.
Reply
The do support lots and lots of other uses for coal. Coal is extremely valuable and plentiful. It will not be thrown away. They will figure it out.
I actually think your screen name says everything I have always believed about the GOP. You look back on what America once was, and think that YOUR politician is going to take you back there.
A news flash, there is no going back. Everything evolves (contrary to what the religious right tells you). Animals, humanity, nature, countries, and politics.

"In addition to providing an affordable, reliable source of low-cost electricity, domestic coal holds the key to our nation's long-term energy security - a goal that cannot be overlooked during this time of international instability and economic uncertainty.

Few policy areas are more important to our economic future than energy issues. As voters head to the polls tomorrow, it is essential they remember that access to reliable, affordable, domestic energy supplies is essential to economic growth and stability." -

Palin Goes After Obama on Coal Comments
by Shushannah Walshe
AP Photo-Marietta, OH
AP Photo-Marietta, OH
MARIETTA, OH –-Sarah Palin unleashed a new attack today after an audio file of an interview Barack Obama did in January 2008 was reported on conservative blogs and linked on the Drudge Report. Palin accused the Democratic nominee of wanting to bankrupt the coal industry.
“Barack Obama explained his plan to the San Francisco Chronicle this year, early this year. And he said that, sure, if the industry wants to build coal fired power plants, then they can go ahead and try, he says, but they can do it only in a way that will bankrupt the coal industry, and he’s comfortable letting that happen. And you gotta listen to the tape.
The audio file has been on the San Francisco Chronicle’s website since the January interview with its editorial board, but Palin accused the newspaper of withholding the information until right before the election.
“Now a couple points on this: One is that here again, why is the audio tape just now surfacing? This interview was given to San Francisco folks many, many months ago. You should have known about this, so that you would have better decision-making information as you go into the voting booth,” Palin said as shouts of “liberal media!” could be heard from the crowd.
In the interview Obama spoke about his energy plan which includes an “aggressive” cap and trade policy which will charge polluters in an effort to curb greenhouse gas emissions. John McCain is also a supporter of cap and trade.
“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted.” Obama said, “That will also generate billions of dollars that we can invest in wind, solar, biodiesel and other alternative energy approaches. The only thing that I have said with respect to coal, I haven’t been some coal booster. What I have said is that for us to take coal off the table as a ideological matter as opposed to saying if technology allows us to use coal in a clean way, we should pursue it.”
Palin promised the crowd at Marietta College that her ticket will “not let that happen to the coal industry.”
“Instead, we’ll make clean coal a reality and to help power the American economy with clean coal technology, we’re going to be looking to the hard-working people of Ohio and West Virginia and Pennsylvania.”
The Obama points out that later in the interview the Illinois senator says that eliminating coal is “ an illusion.” Ohio Governor Ted Strickland responded to Palin’s comments.

Obama: Wants to limit carbon gas emissions and has fixed the goal of reducing greenhouse gases by 80 percent by 2050. He wants to pump $150 billion into the research of clean energy over the next 10 years. Now supports after initially opposing limited US offshore drilling.
Reply
Within 10 years, he wants to save more oil than is currently imported from the Middle East and Venezuela and create some five million green collar jobs.
Obama also wants to put some one million plug-in hybrid cars which can get 150 miles to the gallon on the roads by 2015.
McCain: Wants to expand America's offshore drilling and promote and expand the use of domestic supplies of natural gas.
Also wants to limit carbon gas emissions but has set a slightly more modest goal of cutting them by two-thirds by 2050. He wants to build 45 nuclear energy plants, and is opposed to federal support for clean energy.
McCain will also issue a Clean Car Challenge with a $5,000 tax credit for evey customer who buys a zero cabron emission car. He will also committ $2 billion a year to promoting clean coal initiatives.
Obama to cut emissions 80%, McC 66% ....Obama wrong
Obame to invest $150 bill into new energy, McC $2 bill into clean coal, but has a specified # of nuke plants, should end up with the same price tag...but again, Obama wrong.
Obama wants auto makers to build efficient cars, McC will give up to $5000 tax credit to customers who buy 0 emission cars; but who pays for the tax credit ? Right, Joe the Plumber, but Obama is still wrong.
And both believe in cap and trade, but still Obama is wrong.
To me that shows that many go through life with blinders on.
And don't forget to neg and insult ok.

This goes right along with what The Obama said about $4.00 @ gal gas. It wasn't that "$4.00 @ gal was so bad but it just went up too fast". The Obama wants the middle class to suffer and he's got plans to do make them suffer.

So in order to destroy the middle class he will give them tax breaks if you make less than $250k;
Reply
that is logical.
And somehow, an industry that , one company makes almost $15 bill in 3 months, $25 bill in 6 months, both records, pays its CEO's 100's of millions, somehow can have its product go from $60/bbl to $140/bbl and then back down again, no one has a problem with; but Obama is at fault somehow and Reps are scott free ????
Damn, no wonder USA is in a mess, and the stinker is, many will vote for McC as he will be a continuation of this.
Oh and wolfie pup,Palin says that Obama is not socialist; that was Joe's line; and where is Joe now ? -

Obama DID NOT SAY he will bankrupt the coal industry. His words are being taken out of context.
Reply
This is exactly what he said, and I quote.
"Sure, they can still build coal power plants, but I will fine any coal power plant to the point that they will go bankrupt"
Ya see, he didn't say anything of the kind.
He only said he plans on destroying the coal industry. So what does him saying that have to do with him saying that? I don't care that there's VIDEO TAPE of him saying that. He simply did not say it and that video tape of him saying he will bankrupt the coal industry isn't what he said. That's what he said, so he didn't say it, now did he? -
