I really loved the way McCain choked out "San Francisco" like the words turned his stomach (kinda with the same tone Sarah Palin says "Buh-RAAAAAACK O-BAAAAH-ma"). It's always a good idea for someone who wants to lead the United States to marginalize and pit American against American. Good job, WhackCain. And cons here still have no clue why the GOP is imploding before their eyes. ;-(

Here's what the source had to say about newsbusters crap laden story.
Reply
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/sfgate/detail?...
Here's a few snippets.
"It's not true.
But the Drudge Report, the Republican National Committee and apparently even GOP VP candidate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fell for completely fabricated news from a shady website called Newsbusters today suggesting the San Francisco Chronicle has ''hidden'' audio with Sen. Barack Obama regarding his statements on coal."
''Barack Obama explained his plan to the San Francisco Chronicle this year,'' she told a rally in Ohio Sunday. ''He said that sure, if the industry wants to build coal-fired power plants, then they can go ahead and try, he says, but they can do it only in a way that will bankrupt the coal industry.''
A final note: the shoddy Newsbusters blog has been caught in the past simply fabricating news regarding the Chronicle's coverage. Our paper has demanded corrections for their fiction, but to no avail. -

We are all gonna be in the same boat if Obama gets in.
The bottom will fall out of this economy.
At his point many think things cant get worse. Ya better think again.
With things in their present state it wont take much to send things spiraling out of control. The coal industry isn't going to be the only thing going down the drain. -

The senior vice president of the West Virginia Coal Association called Obama's comments "unbelievable."
Reply
"His comments are unfortunate," Chris Hamilton said Sunday, "and really reflect a very uninformed voice and perspective to coal specifically and energy generally."
Hamilton noted other times Obama and vice presidential candidate Joe Biden have made seemingly anti-coal statements.
"In Ohio recently, when Joe Biden said 'not here' about building coal-fired power plants -- this is exactly what will happen," Hamilton said. "Financing won't be directed here. It will all go aboard for plants elsewhere in the world.
"If we're going to create a situation where coal-fired power plants are at that much of a disadvantage, there will be new ones built. But as Biden said, just not here."
Republican presidential candidate John McCain's state director said Obama's statements are troubling, especially for West Virginians.
"I think this clearly shows the attitude the Obama-Biden ticket has toward coal," Ben Beakes said Sunday. "Rhetoric is cheap, but behind closed doors what they tell their supporters - that's what we have to take as gospel.
"They're definitely not friends of coal."-

No surprise there. This whole brouhaha is about whether we use clean coal technology or actually (regardless of what he says now about renewable energey) stay in the tank with big oil and big coal till it's too late to reverse global warming. All the fat cats that are profiting from stay the course and "drill baby drill" figure to be dead by then. They ONLY care about themselves. Leaving our kids $11 trillion in debt so they could get massive tax cuts doesn't bother them. Acid rain won't hurt them. Global warming? That won't mess start mass starvations while they are still around.

I know the psuedo-conservatives in power don't care about the environment but just in case someone out there does.
In an average year, a typical coal plant generates:
3,700,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), the primary human cause of global warming--as much carbon dioxide as cutting down 161 million trees.
10,000 tons of sulfur dioxide (SO2), which causes acid rain that damages forests, lakes, and buildings, and forms small airborne particles that can penetrate deep into lungs.
500 tons of small airborne particles, which can cause chronic bronchitis, aggravated asthma, and premature death, as well as haze obstructing visibility.
10,200 tons of nitrogen oxide (NOx), as much as would be emitted by half a million late-model cars. NOx leads to formation of ozone (smog) which inflames the lungs, burning through lung tissue making people more susceptible to respiratory illness.
720 tons of carbon monoxide (CO), which causes headaches and place additional stress on people with heart disease.
220 tons of hydrocarbons, volatile organic compounds (VOC), which form ozone.
170 pounds of mercury, where just 1/70th of a teaspoon deposited on a 25-acre lake can make the fish unsafe to eat.
225 pounds of arsenic, which will cause cancer in one out of 100 people who drink water containing 50 parts per billion.
114 pounds of lead, 4 pounds of cadmium, other toxic heavy metals, and trace amounts of uranium.

Debunked

Obama's campaign responded to Palin's comments today, noting correctly that the wide-ranging interview also included the Illinois Senator's comments that the idea of eliminating coal plants was ''an illusion.''
Apparently neither campaign, until now, ever felt there was much worth mentioning regarding Obama's coal comments. But it's now two days before the election and McCain is in a do-or-die battle in Pennsylvania and Ohio.
A final note: the shoddy Newsbusters blog has been caught in the past simply fabricating news regarding the Chronicle's coverage. Our paper has demanded corrections for their fiction, but to no avail.
We contacted Bill Riggs, regional press secretary of the Republican National Committee tonight on his emailing of this erroneous report suggesting a ''hidden'' Chronicle audiotape to political reporters. His response: he didn't confirm it, or write the headline. He just sent it out.-

United Mine Workers of America (UMWA) International President Cecil E. Roberts issued the following statement:
"Sen. John McCain and his running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin, have once again demonstrated that they are willing to say anything and do anything to win this election. Their latest twisting of the truth is about coal and some comments Sen. Obama made last January about the future use of coal in America.
Here what the McCain campaign left out of Sen. Obama’s actual words: ‘But this notion of no coal, I think, is an illusion. Because the fact of the matter is, is that right now we are getting a lot of our energy from coal. And China is building a coal-powered plant once a week. So what we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon. And how can we sequester that carbon and capture it.'
Sen. Obama has been consistent with that message not just in the coalfields, but everywhere else he goes as well. Despite what the McCain campaign and some far right-wing blogs would have Americans believe, Sen. Obama has been and remains a tremendous supporter of coal and the future of coal.

McCain has made a campaign based on outright negativity, lies and deceit. Are we, as intelligent Americans, going to stand for this old man's lies? We need a change, vote for a man who stands for positivity, hope for a beautiful future, humanity and peace.

Not to mention what Cap and Trade even means:
Reply
The Cap and Trade system It is an "administrative approach used to control pollution by providing economic incentives for achieving reductions in the emissions of pollutants." What senator Obama is proposing is that our Emissions are capped at their current level.
IT MEANS THAT EMISSIONS WILL BE CAPPED, I.E. THEY CANNOT EXCEED THEIR CURRENT LEVEL, IT DOESN'T HURT EXISTING COAL PLANTS
That means that current plants will have to pay for the amount of emissions they exceed over their current amount, and new coal plants (Which is what he said would be bankrupt) can be built, but they will probably go bankrupt because they will be charged for all their new emissions because there is a cap on the emissions. Emissions can be traded, but over all there would be a cap on new emissions in the country.
In fact, in the same interview (the part that was not shown in the tape) he mentioned how he is from a coal producing state and that eliminating the coal industry is an unattainable "illusion."
It is the way of encouraging the free market to go green rather than the government having to step in and do it all.
If you want to know what John McCain's position on it is, Mr McCain talks about it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wP6iqcrHvsE

So much for the middle class in coal states. Coal is responsible for 47% of our energy. That means much higher power bills, thanks to the oNE. Hey Barack, is this a view into how you wil change America and help the poor and middle class by destroying the wealthy?

Obama's cabinet, if based on his past associations, would have people such as: Farrakhan, Jeremiah Wright, Wililam Ayers, Khalidi, Tony Rezco. And if "Biden" is your example of a good pick, then we will have real entertainment. Even liberals make fun of Biden.

Obama is an advocate of clean coal technology. I've also heard McCain advocating clean coal technology. What he is talking about is a concept called carbon trading. This is the buying and selling of carbon credits. Carbon producers buy carbon credits and sell them on carbon markets. It's free enterprise in the 21st century. Capitalism. If power companies continue to build "dirty power plants" they will hsve to buy more carbon credits. If they decide to build the newer clean coal technology plants, they will have to buy fewer credits. The clean plants are more expensive but will be cheaper in the long run. Not only are they cleaner but more efficient. This is our future. We've brought it upon ourselves by trashing our environment for the last 100 years. By some maps half of Florida could be under water in another 100 years. It won't be a "swing state" anymore then will it.
