This is a very sad story and so much more sad for the parents.

We have at times taken privileges from our children for bad behavior and intentions (including, but not limited to, the use of the TV, computer, and video games).
For most parents, such punishment does not have such a response. Many of us have made bad decisions in our lives that could have had catestrophic outcomes, but few of us actually face such terrible consequences.
This story is much deeper than one or even all video games. This story is more profound than the punishment meted out by one boy's parents. This story should concern us all about why some teenagers who have been blessed with such lives of opportunity somehow feel simultaneously that they are so abused and that they are so capable. Brandon felt he was abused enough that he had to leave his family and felt he was capable enough to care for himself, but was clearly incorrect in both judgments. It appears that such angst is pervasive in our society; thankfully, most teens survive them.
