I went there last year. Very few Americans, mostly Europeans, japanese, Koreans, and other Asians. Stayed in a hotel with a balcony that overlooks the beach. It sort of lost the beautiful nature that this island once had. It has become much to touristy. Nice to visit, but there are other places to go that give you a much better feel for the beauty and culture of Aklan.

i was there about 12 years ago before it went commercial. getting there was a real indiana jones-type trek but what a fantastic place! had a beach hut, just a short sandy pathed walk from laidback al fresco dining. just watch out for falling coconuts, they can be killers. smoked hooch and drank margaritas all night long and then the gods smiled on me and even delivered up out of the blue an extremely enthusiastic nubile 19 year old japanese college student to keep me company for 10 days and nights under the light of the moon. that turned my stay there into sheer perfection.... pure magic. one of those memories you keep close to your heart forever..... sigh.
