A further contemptuous message is widely rumored to be forthcoming -- the naming as "Special Envoy for Middle East Peace" of Dennis Ross, the notorious Israel-Firster who, throughout the 12 years of the Bush the First and Clinton administrations, ensured that American policy toward the Palestinians did not deviate one millimeter from Israeli policy and that no progress toward peace could be made and who has since headed the AIPAC spin-off "think tank", the Washington Institute for Near East Policy...

... it may well be salutary not to waste eight more days (let alone eight more years) playing along and playing the fool while more Palestinian lands are confiscated and more Jewish colonies and Jews-only bypass roads are built on them, clinging to the delusion that the charming Mr. Obama, admirable though he may be in so many other respects, will eventually (if only in a second term, when he no longer has to worry about reelection) see the light and do the right thing. It is long overdue for the Palestinians themselves to seize the initiative, to reset the agenda and to declare a new "only game in town".

FTA -- "For an incoming administration that ran on cleaning up the greed on Wall Street, the selection of Emanuel speaks a lot louder than any campaign promises. One might think that anyone who sat on the boards of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac while the two GSEs cooked the books and set the stage for global financial collapse should at least be considered political poison for any appointment, let alone one as significant as White House Chief of Staff — if nothing else, then at least on the basis of competence. Instead, it looks like Obama is bringing the Chicago Way to Pennsylvania Avenue.
Hope and change, indeed."
I said all along that actions speak louder than words. Obama's initial actions are not very promising. Btw, anyone notice any WOMEN he's considering for top positions?
to me the chief of staff is the second most powerful person in a Presidential administration
duties of a chief of staff
In general, a chief of staff provides a buffer between a chief executive (a CEO of a corporation or even the President of the US) and that executive's direct-reporting team. The chief of staff generally works behind the scenes to solve problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues before they bubble up to the Chief Executive. Lots of politics, egos, and issues to deal with. Often times Chiefs of Staff act as a confidante and advisor to the Chief Executive, acting as a sounding board for ideas. Ultimately the actual duties depend on the actual position and the people involved.
this man could set policy and tone, decide what gets bucked up to the Ptesident or not......and the President could be completely unawares until anything that is going on.................everyone's long winded and obfuscating comments about John McCain certainly do not apply here...they serve as a tool to divert attention attention from the real issue and that issue is the appointment of Emamuel, his poor track record, and his first hand involvement in covering up the Fannie Mac Freddie Mac scandal, and sub prime mortgage fiasco that has now lead to the world wide economic crisis. Lets lay the blame to that where it belongs and it belongs solely at the feet of Dodd, Raines, Emanuel, Frank, and Obama.......
and one last thing...........did you all forget about Obama taking $140,000 in campaign contributions from the 2 GSE's.
