FTA: "John Podesta, Obama's transition chief, said Sunday Obama is reviewing President Bush's executive orders on those issues and others as he works to undo policies enacted during eight years of Republican rule. He said the president can use such orders to move quickly on his own.
Reply
"There's a lot that the president can do using his executive authority without waiting for congressional action, and I think we'll see the president do that," Podesta said. "I think that he feels like he has a real mandate for change. We need to get off the course that the Bush administration has set."
I feel much better about the whole country with Obama undoing the mess Bush has created.
Any one see the latest where Bush wants to sell "mineral rights" to the Grand Canyon!!!!! That would turn another National Treasure into a toxic waste site.....Bush is a serious mental case and I hope he either leaves the country or is targeted for legal charges.-

a link would be nice. all i can do is receommend is that you reread the article, this time with a focus on comprehension. if there are words you don't understand, look them up.

i don't think either is going to happen, but its good to know that you'll be in the lynch mob.

In addition to reversing GWB's hatchet job of our constitution, restarting the economy after years of Republican economics is not going to be easy.
Reply
Many talk about trimming the Obama agenda but you can put me in the opposite camp. Now is no time to hold back strategic investments; to do so will only drag out the misery longer.
Time has come to make those investments in the future and get the economy rolling again.
US infrastructure has fallen too far behind and needs modernizing. Though it is expensive, Obama is right; it will create jobs and get money moving outside of just the Wall Street boardrooms.
Improving the environment and energy will also cost money but by directing money, even more money and jobs will be created.
Cutting back areas that will lead us out of the Republican recession is not where we want to go; it will on entrench us further. Obama is smart; real smart. Cutting back spending in these vital areas will be like fighting harder in the quicksand. -

Hope for what? That Bush will somehow find a way to make his shredding of the US Constitution permanent?
Reply
I can't believe how many Americans support his dictatorship. Is being aligned with the ones in charge so important to these people that they'd give up their own rights guaranteed by the US Constitution? It appears that way. The right to freedom of speech, due process, habeus corpus, etc. All the rights that were stripped away during the Bush years are the things Obama is looking to "fix" in his first days. Why is that wrong? Are there people out there who can and will honestly say that they'd give up their own rights to the freedom we cling to as Americans because their party tells them its for their own good? When that actually affects them or a loved one, do they change their tune? If you found out that you had been spied on for the past seven years in the name of "patriotism"...having all of your internet transactions monitored, every bank statement, every website visited, every keystroke logged, every library book checked out, every phone call made.....how many who defend Bush's tactics would still agree with him? When its actually YOU who has been spied upon.......would you still feel like a patriot for having done your duty to your Commander-in-Chief, or would you be asking yourself when America became more like Russia or China who does this sort of thing as a matter of practice because that is what COMMUNIST countries do?
And before you say that these changes only affected terrorists, you need to realize that it has already been admitted that it involved millions of average, ordinary citizens who had never done anything wrong. In many cases, it involved military families and their calls between their loved ones fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq being monitored and shared with the other agents in the room when these calls got a little "steamy".....these are the same soldiers that the right are constantly USING as a badge of being more patriotic.
So tell me, how is exploiting our soldiers as you support the government who spies on them supporting patriotism? -

i can guess where you get your information about the calls being monitered..other than left wing-nut sites list ONE person who filed suit over their rights being abused..its all inference and what ifs--as opposed to baryyO who says we need to make FUNDAMENTAL changes in the constitution...talk about shredding..he wants to re-write it as a socialist manifesto of govt responsibilities...this mandate is another media creation..he won but not by that much

He signed onto the United Nations Millenium Declaration that explicitly undercuts the second amendment to the U.S. constitution. He has strongly and directly backed all sorts of clearly unconstitutional limitations on citizens' rights guaranteed by that amendment, and still backs them, according to his website.
Reply
He supports extending faith-based funding, which undercuts the first amendment to the U.S. constitution by entangling church and state.
Otherwise, he's pretty good on the constitution. -

Adrienne Kinne, a former U.S. Army Reserves Arab linguist, told ABC News the NSA was listening to the phone calls of U.S. military officers, journalists and aid workers overseas who were talking about "personal, private things with Americans who are not in any way, shape or form associated with anything to do with terrorism."
David Murfee Faulk, a former U.S. Navy Arab linguist, said in the news report that he and his colleagues were listening to the conversations of military officers in Iraq who were talking with their spouses or girlfriends in the United States.
According to Faulk, they would often share the contents of some of the more salacious calls stored on their computers, listening to what he called "phone sex" and "pillow talk."
Both Kinne and Faulk worked at the NSA listening facility at Fort Gordon, Georgia. They told ABC that when linguists complained to supervisors about eavesdropping on personal conversations, they were ordered to continue transcribing the calls.
As for naming an individual who has sued, that's a ridiculous demand since all of this spying is clandestine. There is no way to know if you are the one being spied on because, hellooooo, they are SPYING and don't WANT you to know. But the fact is, quite a few of their spies have come forward as whistle blowers and pulled back the curtain on the man behind the curtain. The problem is, there are too many Americans willing to put on blinders and refuse to SEE that man as he's pulling the levers and manipulating their rights to meet his will. -

You have a really short memory. Don't you recall telecommunications immunity? Remember when the big telcos handed over their call records for analysis by the government? Know what they were looking for? 'Degree of separation' analysis: Party A calls party B who calls party C who has 'links' to terrorists. Now party A is suspect.

The only reference in the article seem to be this:

On drilling, the federal Bureau of Land Management is opening about 360,000 acres of public land in Utah to oil and gas drilling. Bush administration officials argue that the drilling will not harm sensitive areas; environmentalists oppose it.
"They want to have oil and gas drilling in some of the most sensitive, fragile lands in Utah," Podesta said. "I think that's a mistake."
Not offshore.

When GWB took office, he looked at what had been done by Clinton and pretty much went 180 deg the opposite way on everything. This was done on the assumption that everything Clinton did was by defnition dumb, ill-advised, or just plain wrong.

They usually keep the really successful policy, but quickly rename it so it's theirs, and no longer associated with the previous administration. When a president first comes on board and states his key agenda issues, the agencies quickly go through their work-in-progress and realign it (or rename it) to fit.

By the way Obama's biggest planed roll back is the millions of US dollars we spend in other countries for re-producted health, will now be used for abortion, not for American women, but for all others. Now were not only committing genocide in America,we're branching out,and your paying for it.I know some are thrilled we finally have a president who believes that abortion hasn't reached it's potential yet.His stem cell policy will result in more young girls, not only having more abortions, but getting paid for them.

Embryonic stem cells, as their name suggests, are derived from embryos. Specifically, embryonic stem cells are derived from embryos that develop from eggs that have been fertilized in vitro—in an in vitro fertilization clinic—and then donated for research purposes with informed consent of the donors. They are not derived from eggs fertilized in a woman's body.

No, stem cells would not need to be constantly harvested. Quite the opposite. A relatively small set of culture lines can be maintained and used as needed. As I understand it, most current research is being done from just 6 existing culture lines.

Um, I don't think that is the case. I think Obama will overturn the Bush edict that 1/3 of anti-AIDS programs go to abstinence-only programs. That 1/3 of foreign aid will be available for all programs. If the program offers abortions, so be it.

You don't necessarily have to be an intellectual to kill babies, and no I don't believe executions are the same. One is because they committed a crime worthy of the death penalty, the other is totally with out fault, but has no laws to protect them.I suppose that's what the majority wanted,a way to control population by intelligent design.

No one is pro-abortion. It's called the right to privacy and doctor-patient privilege, and attempts to legislate against that are, in my opinion, unconstitutional.

You really want to save American money, and use it to help American citizens, let's start with troops in Europe, then Korea, then Iraq, but maybe it would be better if we started sending illegals back to their own countries.Illgal imagration cost more than all troops above put togather. What all the left doesn't understand is the drain on states, cities, and schools. If the federal government would do their duty, and enforce the law this nation would be great again.

The illegals wouldn't be here if it weren't for the companies who hire them. Go after all the companies who hire the illegals. These people would have no need to risk their lives to come here if there weren't companies waiting and wanting to hire them. People migrate to where there are jobs.

Many illegals are heading back to Mexico all ready due to the economy and they can't find work. Also there have been major crack downs on companies hiring illegals so other companies are not hiring them any more because they don't want the fines, bad PR and headaches that the illegals bring with them,

When I think of Obama and his adoring hordes of Obamanauts I remember my mother telling me that, early on in his career, some of Hitler's biggest supporters and apologists were Jews and Communists. Let's hope that an equally hollow and unsubstantiated media product whom we've just elected doesn't repeat history. Hitler was elected in a time of great financial distress too. His plan was to blame the nation's ills on a group to refocus the whining public's attention aay from the basics and onto a group he wished to eradicate. I'll feel more comfortable when I know who he really and what he's really about, not the hollow image the press and his sales team has created. As for his great love and support for the Constitution, he's a Democrat and the Democratic Party, just as the Republicans, have selectively misapplied, reinterpreted and outright destroyed portions of it as it suits their needs. I have no doubt that he, when it suits his needs, will do so to the detriment of some group(s).

I didn't read it that way at all. German Jews won more Iron Crosses than any other minority group fighting for the Germans in WWI. The Jews that did support Hitler thought he was good for the country. He had his faults but no one, especially Jewish World War I vets could have imagined what lay ahead for them.

Careful. Another was named Kennedy.
As ambassador to England, Joe would later make clear that he thought the Jews had "brought on themselves" whatever Hitler did to them. During a 1938 meeting at the German embassy in London, Kennedy assured the German ambassador that America only wanted friendly relations with Hitler. Joe said that Hitler's government had done "great things" for the country, and that the Germans were "satisfied" and enjoyed "good living conditions." Joe told the ambassador that a recent report which said the limited food in Germany was being reserved for the army could not be true. After all, Joe said, the professor who had made the report "was a Jew."
