The secret service is reported to have already investigated more than 500 death threats against Mr Obama during the presidential election contest.

Really Harbeas? There are some die hard bigots out there that doesn't relish the thought of having an African American as this nation's leader sad to say. They've caught a couple of these nimrods not to long ago even before Obama finally got the official nod in the general election. Even as advanced as we supposedly are in this day and age. I pray that there will be no assassination attempts at all!

Listen to the rhetoric that the left hate speech people generate and you want to think that people have moved beyond doing bad things. That speech is absolutely not civilized. Then you want to think since you do that that no one else would have those kinds of thoughts.
We have had 8 presidents shot while in office and 4 of them died. Kennedy and Reagan were the last two. The Secret Service takes their job seriously. They will protect him as best as they can. -

The 2 guys that have been arrested for plotting to kill Obama are from Tennessee and Mississippi.
You would think that in the 21st century, people could be educated enough to move beyond such a level of ignorance regarding race and equality.
Unfortunately, there are still plenty of people who - for whatever reasons - are steeped in racism and "good old boy" attitudes and ignorance.
And THAT is pretty scary!-

This country has no respect for the office unless they are getting something they want. I hear much argument about the intent of the Founders and endless quibbling over the Constitution. Well, I think one document supersedes all our argument in one perfect statement of Truth.
From the Declaration of Independence:
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. You seem to want to use the actions of others to excuse your own.
"He did it too!" stopped working as an excuse to get ME out of trouble back around the time I started kindergarten.
Leaders who sow evil reap evil in return...history is proof enough.
Obama has done nothing I see which would justify Hate. -

We had a member here on propeller make a death threat against president-elect Obama. He urged Nazis, KKK and members of the radical right to kill Obama before he was inaugurated. I don't doubt that Obama will need all the protection he can get. The radical right has put so many lies out about Obama that those folk who aren't too sane will think that this is their chance to make history. We should worry.

I'm quite sure that the secret service has had their hands full for years trying to keep up with the threats against sitting Presidents, especially since JFK. It seems that the latest two yokels that were caught were trying to plan more of a Columbine thing and threw in a threat to Obama. Either way it's hideous. In reality, those two would probably not be more than a blip on the radar as far as protection for the President or President Elect is concerned. I'm sure the tension is high since the period of transfer of power is supposed to be the most likely for terrorist attack.
