Mr. Obama is being advised largely by a group of intelligence professionals, including some who have supported Republicans, and centrist former officials in the Clinton administration. They say he is likely to fill key intelligence posts with pragmatists.
"He's going to take a very centrist approach to these issues," said Roger Cressey, a former counterterrorism official in the Clinton and Bush administrations. "Whenever an administration swings too far on the spectrum left or right, we end up getting ourselves in big trouble."
The infighting over this in the Democratic Party will heat up soon. It is a different story when you finally see the intelligence reports and are now responsible for a nation of 300 million people. The reality that he is the President, and the facts of the intelligence threat estimates will trump the rhetoric of campaign fiction every time. Just the first of many lessons that Obama and all the people who believed his fairy tale and voted for him will soon come to realize.-

How about you concentrate on the current administration's failed policies and constant failures and we wait to see what Obama actually does instead of posting yet more speculative pieces that will likely turn out to be as untrue as your usual garbage?

Documents linking Iran to nuclear weapons push may have been fabricated
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has obtained evidence suggesting that documents which have been described as technical studies for a secret Iranian nuclear weapons-related research program may have been fabricated.
The documents in question were acquired by U.S. intelligence in 2004 from a still unknown source -- most of them in the form of electronic files allegedly stolen from a laptop computer belonging to an Iranian researcher. The US has based much of its push for sanctions against Iran on these documents....
... Other documents from the laptop collection, allegedly showing that Kimia Maadan was working closely with the team trying to redesigning the Shahab-3 missile, have also come under suspicion of fraud. ...
... In the past, IAEA Director General Mohamed ElBaradei has shown an ability to face off with the United States when evidence has been called into doubt. The infamous “Niger forgeries” – documents that purported to show an agreement between Niger and Iraq for the purchase of uranium oxide – were used by the White House as part of its case for war against Iraq.

The "assertion" in this discussion that Obama has broken a campaign pledge is pure hooey. The article itself is nothing but speculation about what might be in the future - probably by circles interested in trying to continue the failed bushie policies. As you read the comments below, think about this:

America the Illiterate
We live in two Americas. One America, now the minority, functions in a print-based, literate world. It can cope with complexity and has the intellectual tools to separate illusion from truth. The other America, which constitutes the majority, exists in a non-reality-based belief system. This America, dependent on skillfully manipulated images for information, has severed itself from the literate, print-based culture. It cannot differentiate between lies and truth. It is informed by simplistic, childish narratives and clichés. It is thrown into confusion by ambiguity, nuance and self-reflection. This divide, more than race, class or gender, more than rural or urban, believer or nonbeliever, red state or blue state, has split the country into radically distinct, unbridgeable and antagonistic entities.
There are over 42 million American adults, 20 percent of whom hold high school diplomas, who cannot read, as well as the 50 million who read at a fourth- or fifth-grade level. Nearly a third of the nation’s population is illiterate or barely literate. And their numbers are growing by an estimated 2 million a year. But even those who are supposedly literate retreat in huge numbers into this image-based existence. A third of high school graduates, along with 42 percent of college graduates, never read a book after they finish school. Eighty percent of the families in the United States last year did not buy a book.

there is increasing speculation the the reason for the appointment of Emanuel as White House Chief of Staff is to placate the Israel's. The hope is that Emanuel's appointment will help assuage their fears and keep them from attacking Iran's nuclear facilities before Obama assumes the Presidency at the end of January.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni attacked US president-elect Barack Obama on Thursday for declaring a willingness to talk with Iran about its nuclear program.
"We live in a neighborhood in which sometimes dialogue . . . is liable to be interpreted as weakness," Livni told Israeli Radio, expressing a view held by many of her Zionist colleagues.
Asked if she supported discussions between the US and Iran, Livni said, "No."
The comments from the new leader of the governing Kadima party came just before Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent an unexpected note of congratulations to Obama on his victory.
Livni's interview about Iran underscored how seriously Israel regards Tehran's nuclear ambitions and how worried many in the Zionist regime are that Obama may not be as staunch an ally to the so-called Jewish state as President George W. Bush, who has sometimes been described in Israel as the best friend that the country has ever had in Washington.
While anxious over Obama's position on Iran, Israel was also buzzing on Thursday over the appointment of Rahm Emanuel as Obama's chief of staff.
Emanuel's father is an Israeli-born doctor. The younger Emanuel, who is a congressman from Chicago and a longtime friend of Obama's, received what Israeli media described Thursday as a conservative Jewish education. He is said to speak some Hebrew, was a volunteer working with the Israel Defense Forces during the first Persian Gulf War in 1991 and has been a frequent visitor to Israel.

Obama is listening to the people who run the security agencies, his campaign as well as McCain's received security threat assessments about a week before Bidens now famous "HE WILL BE TESTED" quote. As the transition begins it is highly probable that he has received additional security briefings. The reality of the world situation is just beginning to hit Obama. A big difference in what you can say and what you have to do.

Obama quashes Iran's hopes for change
But Mr Obama made it clear that he will not be a soft touch when it comes to Tehran.
"Iran's development of a nuclear weapon I believe is unacceptable. We have to mount an international effort to prevent that from happening," he said.
"Iran's support of terrorist organisations, I think, is something that has to cease."
The Speaker of the Iranian parliament, Ali Larijani - who has been sharply at odds with President Ahmadinejad over parliament's impeachment last week of the latter's interior minister - described Mr Obama's comments as a step in the wrong direction.
"It signals a continuation of the erroneous policies of the past," he said. "Change has to be strategic, not just cosmetic." -

The NYT is already trying to cover for Obama if he doesn't follow through on his promise to close GITMO
Reply
Next President Will Face Test on Detainees
They were called the Dirty 30 — bodyguards for Osama bin Laden captured early in the Afghanistan war — and many of them are still being held at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba. Others still at the much-criticized detention camp there include prisoners who the government says were trained in assassination and the use of poisons and disguises
One detainee is said to have been schooled in making detonators out of Sega game cartridges. A Yemeni who has received little public attention was originally selected by Mr. bin Laden as a potential Sept. 11 hijacker, intelligence officials say.
Senators John McCain and Barack Obama have said they would close the detention camp, but the review of the government’s public files underscores the challenges of fulfilling that promise. The next president will have to contend with sobering intelligence claims against many of the remaining detainees

Amazing that after all of the articles in the NYT criticizing GITMO, they now see the light -

Another BROKEN campaign PROMISE indeed! That becomes at least the FIFTH campaign PROMISE Obama has BROKEN! Here are the first FOUR:
Reply
1. During a Democratic primary stump speech Obama PROMISED he would end the war in Iraq by the end of 2009.
2. Obama PROMISED he would not engage in negative campaigning.
3. Obama PROMISED he would accept FEC funding for the general election.
4. Obama PROMISED to debate McCain anytime and anywhere.
Obama lied and bought his way into being president-elect.
America's only hope now is that one/more of the Judges in the several Civil Suits seeking to force Obama to prove he is in fact a natural born U.S. Citizen will do the right thing -- order Obama to profer the vault copy of his Hawaiian "Birth Certificate" to the Court prior to the Electoral College confirming him as POTUS-elect and if Obama fails to do that declare/rule him ineligible to be POTUS.-

How about:
"WhenI say we are going to pull out," Obama said, "we can take one to two brigades out every month responsibly and safely. At that pace, it would take 16 months to get our combat troops back home. ...So this isn't like we're going to be home tomorrow. So let's say that George Bush still has a 100,000 troops or more there when I take office in January 2009. You take on another sixteen months off of that, that's two and a half three years away before we have all our troops out."
Remember these? (having to paraphrase for brevity; if you disagree with paraphrasing, please provide referenced rebuttals!!)
I will unilaterailly renegotiate NAFTA (so much for international cooperation)
I will meet with Ahmadinejad without pre-conditions.
Want more???
Remember all of the promises about tax cuts for the middle class???
The middle class will.
And what is this all about:
"anyone with any sense knows that what a candidate says during a campaign has to be taken with a grain of salt. once in office, it's a whole different playing field."
Are you making EXCUSES for candidates LYING during the campaign?
Is that YOUR idea of integrity and character??? -

Now back to Barack Obama and the Democratic Party. I hope there would be infighting among them. It shows that they do not just fall in line with the Party, like Republicans do.
We do need to hold talks with countries like Iran and North Korea. If we don't talk with them then how do we know what they want, if they are serious or just sabre rattling. You see, we can't just shut out entire countries because they said something we dislike.
As for Israel, the West's greatest ally in the Middle East. Funny how that works, we (U.S.A and Britain) just create a country in the middle of Palestine, "kick out" the native Palestinians and wonder why "they" (Muslims) hate us. We are supporting a nation that should not exist as physical state, and that is according to the Torah, the Jewish Holy Book.

The Middle East does not really care about the Palestinians. They are only a pawn in the fight between Arabs and Israel.

closet homosexual, and, as recently revealed, synthetic heroin
drug addict, Rush Hudson Limbaugh III is probably the best
known neocon personality in American radio.
Born in Cape Girardeau, MO, in 1951, Limbaugh spent many of
his formative years pursuing a career in radio.
After using his pilonidal cyst - a congenital birth defect - to avoid military service in the Vietnam War, Limbaugh briefly
worked for radio stations in Pittsburgh, PA and Kansas City,
MO. Fired from both jobs, he worked as a wiener salesman for
the KC Royals baseball franchise, eventually slithering back into the radio business.
In 1971 Limbaugh attended Southeastern Missouri University,
where, according to reports, he had a brief but heated affair
with Elliot Sanders. So gay is Limbaugh, guarantees Sanders,
that, "none of his marriages was ever consummated."
Many of Limbaugh's fans staunchly deny the man's alleged
homosexuality, and Limbaugh himself says the rumors are
politically motivated lies. However, one is forced to doubt
Limbaugh, who has a history of denying and balking at rumors
that are later revealed to be true. His pilonidal cyst, his
pseudonymous career in Pittsburgh radio, and his addiction to
Oxycontin are all facts which Limbaugh initially denied or
concealed. -

A careful analysis of the article reveals that politicians "signal" their intentions, oftentimes as a means to "trial balloon" said intentions before declaring policy. They do this to give themselves cover should their trial balloon set off an unmanageable political storm. At which point, they can then backtrack and redirect.

It is hopeful that the president-elect seems to be indicating that he might well shun the vociferous fringe of his party. It would certainly be good for the country. That being said, it is a matter of at least passing curiousity that posturing to obtain votes is an entirely different matter than governing and making policy decisions. Plus, it is a matter of no small satisfaction to see that the president-elect will likely be drawn to many of the same foreign policy conclusions already drawn by the current administration.

After more failed stints with Missouri radio stations Limbaugh
Reply
moved to Sacramento, CA, where he met and became "friends"
with Norm Woodruff, a flamboyant, openly gay man with a
great deal of influence in the local radio scene. Woodruff, who
mentored Limbaugh in the ways of affluence and elitism (traits
Rush mocks today), would later died of AIDS.
Through his ties to Woodruff Limbaugh was given Morton
Downey, Jr.'s spot on KFBK News Talk 1530 a.m. Within
twelve months Limbaugh had become the most popular radio
personality in Sacramento. In 1988 he signed on with EFM
Media Management, working from New York City.
For a short while Limbaugh plateaued, until the success and
enormous popularity of a Democratic president provided him
with a reason to whine.
The popularity and charisma of President Clinton enabled
Limbaugh's hate-filled show to appeal to millions of bitter
American conservatives. Limbaugh's unique combination of
prevarication and histrionics provided a sense of unity for
otherwise incompatible demographics, such as Klansmen and
Wall Street stock brokers. -

depression, eventually becoming addicted to pain pills
prescribed to him for his pilonidal cyst (a.k.a. "Butt Boil"). For
nearly eight years Limbaugh abused Hydrocodone, a synthetic,
stronger version of heroin.
In effect, Limbaugh spent nearly a decade stoned off his
bleeding backside, and ultimately built up his tolerance to levels
requiring dozens of pills per day in order to, as Limbaugh once
confided in his maid, "get my buzz on."
A textbook example of the damning effects of drug abuse,
Limbaugh's addiction precipitated a swift drop in weight,
deafness in both ears, and a marked decline in mental faculties.
He also became increasingly paranoid - requiring his provider to
meet him at night behind restaurants, next to dumpsters,
where he'd hand over cigar boxes stuffed with "cabbage" (cash)
in exchange for some "little baby blues" (pills). Limbaugh's
desperation peaked in 2003, when he groped his provider in an
attempt to check her for a wire tap. -
