    This dovetails with the complaints I keep reading from people about Twitter users with a large number of followers not following back the 20K people who have followed them. Twitter is a useful communications tool, it's not some kind of popularity contest. People who treat it that way are missing the point, IMHO.

      Yeah totally. The whole idea that one must follow someone who follows them is absurd. I like Sean's point that it ruins the whole idea that twitter is used many different ways. It's in danger of turning into a giant popularity contest, like MySpace.
