Do you believe in reincarnation? »
Posted By Newperson 1 year ago in ReligionWhat do you think?
Are you convinced that you have had a previous life - and if so, who or what were you? Or is it all nonsense?
Reincarnation is a powerful force in eastern philosophy, but western views seem to be limited to the possibility of coming back as an animal or a sensationalistic interest in past lives.
Stories about the cleaner who was Queen Elizabeth I in a former life or the teacher who was Elvis are treated as a joke story for the tabloids.
Now England football coach Glenn Hoddle has hit the headlines with his theory on the laws of karma.
Hoddle, who describes himself as a Christian, told The Mirror that the belief of reincarnation made more sense to him than the idea that life's inequalities were simply "the luck of the draw".
But his reported view that people born with disabilities may be paying for sins committed in a previous life may cost him his job.
Does the West misinterpret reincarnation?
Hindus, Sikhs and Buddhists all embrace elements of reincarnation and karma. There is a strong belief that your actions in the current life are stored and have a spiritual consequence on the next.
It is believed that if you dedicate your life to helping others, for example, you build up good karma and will be rewarded in the next life - and vice versa.
But the Reverend Doctor Peter Graves, of the Methodist Central Hall in London's Westminster, says reincarnation has no place in conventional Christianity.
"There's no reference to it in the Bible," he said. "It's a very earth-centred concept of eternal life which is not biblical. The Bible's approach is very much that life is a preparation for a richer and fuller life beyond the grave."
What do you think?
Are you convinced that you have had a previous life - and if so, who or what were you? Or is it all nonsense?

Jews believed in (and many still do today) re-incarnation.

Origen, the first Father of the Church believed in pre-existence and reincarnation.
They weren't decided to be ' heresies' until 553CE. So within the early church, the Church closer to Christ and His times, reincarnation was a fairly common belief.

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord:
Go down to the potter's house, and there I will give you my message.
So I went down to the potter's house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him.
Then the word of the Lord came to me:
"O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter does?" declares the Lord." (Jer. 18:1-6)

Yes I do believe in reincarnation, and yes I do have memories of previous lives or more to the fact previous deaths. The memories of previous deaths have come while in deep meditation so whether they are actual memories or merely thoughts that were in my mind at the time could be disputed, the one thing that puzzles me is why they were all deaths by basically breaking the rules that Christians refer to as the Ten Commandments.

I've met some people that really believe in it and are excited about it. I can't get excited about reincarnation IF you can't remember your past-life. It's memories that make you who you are. No memories, and what's the point of being reincarnated? You might as well be dead. Supposedly I was a priest in a past life, and, was also my grandfather. But, since I have no memories of either, I say, who gives a rats' patooti? I mean, I never had husband feelings toward my grandma. Supposedly you can remember your past-lives through hypnotism, but, are those memories real? What if you are seeing some OTHER person's past and NOT your past-life? A little boy SEEMED to have had a very detailed account of being a pilot being shot down in a plane during WW2. But, was he actually that pilot IF his story is true?

If reincarnation is true as most of the people claim, then I have no doubt that I would know what I was in the past life and also everybody would know what or who he/she was. We go to sleep and then wake up but we don't forget anything because we went to sleep, and remember a lot of things from our young age even though we forget some of them as we grow older. The truth is people are born and dead and then they will be resurrected by God. Nobody can just choose what he wants to be on his /her own, in that case I would be able to choose what I want and I may be able to prevent even death. I don't think these kinds of things will happen the way people believe, however much one justify his/her belief and this is just another man made stuff like Jesus died for the sins of mankind and resurrected on the third day.

one of the things Buddhists' search for when looking for their next Dalai Lama after the previous has died (believing that every Dalai Lama is a reincarnation of a previous) is memories of the past life. (this includes testing the child with objects and some other ways I am highly skeptical of), they believe that remembering past lives is part of the process of enlightenment. they would say the reason you and I don't remember is not the the memories don't exist, but that we simply are not enlightened enough to recognize them. -

No, reincarnation does NOT mean you know your past life. You are put here each time to try to be better each time. But you can also do worse. If you knew your previous life and habits and behaviors, the deck would be stacked in your favor.

Just as a little nugget of counter-debate, many people don't remember their dreams when they wake up, but science says we all dream during the night. The only time I remember my dream is when I wake up in the middle of it. Then it's vivid as hell. Pun intended.

Interestingly, I've had friends and family bring up memories that I didn't remember. They'd go into great detail about a certain situation and I'm sitting there thinking, "What are you talking about?" They know I was there, once I was even shown pictures, but for some reason I didn't remember it until they jogged my memory. Memories are fickle things. I'm not going to write off any afterlife possibility based on the reliability of human memory.

With Kirlan photography (known 20 plus years), they've already photographed the aura that surrounds living things. It involves using a highly electrified field. A leaf was cut in half...but in the Kirlan photo, the aura of the missing half still exists for a long time, perhaps days...at least in our dimension.
Reply
If this aura is the soul, it can trancend time, and space, and may be the seat of conciousness...which means some form of conciousness probably transcends death. We are multidimensional beings, and there may be higher dimensions that do not require the mind consume food; energy is directly absorbed instead. That is probably why some hauntings feel "cool." Just a thought. And this can lead to these souls reentering Earthly life by posessing a baby's body within the 1st trimester. (Thus: Reincarnation) -

the creator is like an artist. like a human artist there is a common characteristic to all its work, regardless of the genre or medium it is working in.
in the physical world there are similarities between the ecosystems and biosystems, between solar systems and cellular systems, between insect colonies and human cities, between the seasons of the year and the seasons of climate change.
it also true in the physical world that neither matter nor energy can be created or destroyed.
so, if there is a common theme in the physical world due to its all coming from the mind of one creator, doesn't it seem likely that there would be a common theme to the metaphysical world for the same reason.
so perhaps the soul cannot be created or destroyed only change form.
and, perhaps there is an evolution of the soul.
so that as time passes, a soul which does not change stagnates, while those that adapt to increasing quantities of data, mutate into more complex souls.
this reincarnation would not be based on a reward/punishment system of divine judgement, but simply the increasing complexity of the indestructible soul. -

Maybe life isnt to far off from being like a dream. Do you remeber everything you dreamed about when you wake up. When you are sleeping do you remeber about everything you did when you were awake. Have you ever dreamed that you were someone else and wake up and it take a awhile for you to remeber who you really are. They say memory is nothing but electro-chemical fluid stored in you head. What if when you died you lose the actually memory but not the vibe/energy/karma that your spirit/soul has collected in this and possibely other life times. Maybe existance/God is a system of balance and harmony. If you live your life being a jerk to others and die, the hell or bad karma you have to face is to live another life with everyone being a jerk to you. Then just maybe you meet one kind person, does it change you to become a more kinder sentient being or do you stay the same continue karmic path that you might have been traveling on for many life times. We yet know for sure what happens to us when we die, regardless of what some of us claim. There are countless possibilities, who is to say that there is only two or three conclusions. Heaven, hell, reincarnation, assention or dessention to different realms of existance. For some good reason these are things we are not quite meant to know until we ourselves are facing that day that we have to move on. Untill then, I think it is more important to concentrate on the life we are all currently living.

The Roman Catholic church purged reincarnation from their bible around 400A.D. They figured out that if people knew they would be coming back, the church could no longer control them by fear and collect money to pray their souls out of purgatory.

Religion is bogus. It is about nothing by acquiring power through fear and intimidation and bilking its followers of every last dime. -

No, I don't. However, if there is reincarnation then why does the world population continue to increase. If someone dies and is reincarnated then shouldn't that be a one-for-one replacement? Interesting subject nonetheless. I could swear tho that my dog is a reincarnated human. Which brings up the question .. if reincarnation is a reality do you come back as a human being?

With the genocides that took place around WWII, there'd be a lot of souls waiting to be reincarnated. And besides, this is the first time we can accurately record human populations. I'd assume, too, that based on resources the humans would've numbered much less in the past, but you never know. Maybe all those endangered species we killed off are being born as people to get back at us.

Good question.Over 25 billion humans have lived in this world. There could be a graduation of sorts from dog and other animal souls or there can be other energy fields that are used. There's plenty of energy. The energy was here 5 billion years ago. It's still here.Souls? In my conclusion it's just energy. The energy keeps coming back. And that energy is us.Our energy field that does not die at death. We can still think of things.I hear those songs from the 50's. So Rare and Twilight Time.I know I've heard them before.Isn't there a song that you know you knew before?.Before this life that is.Of course, there are.Think.

Well, I don't mean to offend anyone or to hurt anyone but the truth is the reincarnation or the people are being born over and over again until they become a good person or attain NIVANA as the Buddhists and Hindus claim is far from true because to be born a human one has to be a human in the previous life and must have involved in good work or he would be born as animals or other lowly creatures if he did something bad, this is the Hindu concept and also most or some of the Buddhists believe. When he transforms or reincarnates into a different creature because of his past life the game is over there because he will never have another chance to be a human again. The logic here is that a pig or a mosquito will never be able to be a human because it cannot have the opportunity to do what humans do whether it is good or bad. I think this is the most absurd belief of all and I hope that explains.

YOU FIRST MUST SEE that seeing presides over the physical universe. The physical needs perception for the games it demands to function: for one being or a group of beings. The physical universe isn't all. It's just a rather wicked playground.

yes i do believe in reincarnation cause im a Buddhists its my religion some people remember their past life but most doesnt.u born in to animals or what ever u do the most sins in. for and example u kill animals u have sins then u either go to hell or replace as that animal next life. or if u kill another human being the next life they will kill you its a never ending cycle but if u kill yourself u will kill yourself for then next 7 life. its good to do good things help out others not doing sins you'll will have good karma then you'll be born better as human being.
