A Ticket to the Hague for Dick Cheney? »
Posted By Neophile 1 year, 1 month ago in Political NewsGene Burns is one of the nation’s most popular talk radio hosts. For years he has dismissed accounts of torture; America, he has said, does not torture. But last night, after watching Torturing Democracy and realizing that he had not understood how important and serious an issue torture had become, Burns abruptly changed his tune. Here’s a transcript of his remarks.

"And I’m afraid, now that I have seen what I have seen, that I was wrong about that. It looks to me, based on this documentary, as if in fact we have engaged in behavior and practices at Guantánamo Bay, and in these illegal renditions, that are violations of the international human rights code.

And I believe that Dick Cheney is responsible">>>>>
Oh, no no no. This clown doesn't get off the hook for his complicity in what the bush administration has done. He, and the rest of the morons who can't think further than whether or not someone has an "R" by their name to decide if they're the good guys, are responsible. They gave power to the trolls. Them, and them alone. Cheney wouldn't have been able to do anything without the power THEY gave him.-

The information has been out there, how can so many still be ignorant of what we have done? I love my country, but I'm not deaf to what has happened to us, and will continue unless charges are brought against Cheney in particular, and Bush for allowing it.

Amy Goodman has done a good job exposing some of the war crimes the US has committed by interviewing people involved with first person experience. The segment on force feeding of detainees in Gitmo brought tears to my eyes........ -

Is Gene Burns having a true conversion, or is he simply realizing that all the dictatorial powers that Cheney and Bush have usurped now fall into the hands of a man they labeled as "The most liberal man in the Senate"?

I suspect that many Conservatives will have second thoughts about unlimited signing statements, expansive executive privileged closing off all oversight of the executive branch, warrantless wiretapping, extraordinary rendition, torture, secret prisons, suspension of habeas corpus by presidential proclimation that a detainee is an "enemy combatant" even if they are an American citizen, trials using hearsay and "evidence" obtained by torture...
These all were fine in the hands of conservatives. The thought of them in the hands of a liberal government is terrifying to the Cons. Suddenly they wake up to the understanding that such powers can be used for political purposes far outside any global war on terror. -

I'm sorry but the American people don't get a free pass either, the american people knew just what their government was doing but has still done nothing to stop it and according to myth it's the people who rule the country, not some higher society. Yes what I say is harsh but remember Germans were not let off the hook after the Nazi's fell either. Torture and war crimes are to be a burden not just by an administration but by the nation as a whole. Remember this has been known for years and nothing has been done as of yet!! Think about that.

Why was the administration so concerned about these two films? The conversion of Gene Burns supplies the answer. No one who sits through these films, I believe, will be able afterwards to accept the official version of events. George Bush has good reason to be afraid of too many Americans watching these documentaries.

The plight of these films gives further proof to the view that the republicon government has been intimidating our press. -

"PBS also found that it had no network space for Torturing Democracy until January 20, 2009—the day the Bush Administration decamps from Washington."

I don't understand this statement, since the link provided in the story goes to a site including a schedule of November broadcasts for the program on PBS. -

You know I am starting to think that you don't really think the stuff you right on this post. I think you like to stir the pot. There is no possible way that you could watch that video and then make the statement you just have. You either didn't watch and are commenting on something for which you have no information on OR you just want to start an argument.
