"Hard to believe this hardcore racism is alive and thriving."
Reply
I wish.
The nature of racism in white America today is that it is considered bad manners in most circles to air it publicly. But it's there, all the time.
The only difference now is that Obama's victory has white racists so incensed that they are saying out loud what they normally would just think to themselves. -

Why is it hard tehranchik? We had Civil Rights to undo Jim Crow and affirmative action for parity in education/work place, these were about treating symptoms, not cures. Legal maneuvers to avoid behaviors, not a healing. The matter of truth is more than legal incentives to avoid consequences. America is coming to terms where truth is on the march. America will have to stand up to judgment of its ideals. We see how this round is going by witnessing what happens when a man shows he can better himself. A man that did nothing wrong, if you believe, was crucified for teaching a better way to live. The process begins here, as it did when school segregation spurred acts of inhumanity, only to emerge with integration as a step forward. I feel this acknowledgment of America's problem with race will bring a cleansing and the country will be better in the end.

I am not surprised that some white people have tiny minds. I AM surprised that these racists are allowed to vote. I'm just happy we finally have a President who doesn't look like he retired 20 years ago, and then decided to run for office.

Racism isn't about whites. There are a lot of very racist people of all racial/ethnic groups.
Reply
It's even worse with other immigrant groups in our area as they fight to control gang territories in our county and the immigrant-black gang wars are spilling over into communities. -

Kernsales1, these are not "tiny minds". Think about the power it took to hold a nation and a world in a grip based on race and class. Hate is as it appears, but if you look at the make up of the Fortune 500 then you will see it is profit based issue. Those that live on the backs of all that contribute for their life style are not appreciative. Whites die in the wars, starve on the streets and lose their minds on dope as any other group. But surprise, surprise, this is associated with Black peoples' behavior. It's convenient, and if you look at the average history book and study what happened in reality then you will have to conclude a major deception is on going. Tiny minds are not capable of this, great minds capable of accepting that great evil is necessary to control, this sort of mind can.

Racism will always be a part of our lives. It has been a sickness to humans for thousands of years. Sadly, racism will be around for the next 1000 years, it will be our destruction and the end of the human era. Why do I say this? Because I'm never wrong, ever! And no one can challenge my statement.

While friction and even at times genocide between different peoples has always been around, the developed concept of "race" did not emerge until the 1700s. "Race" emerged as the supporting ideological structure for the slave trade.
Reply
Race is often conflated with the notion of ethnic identity, but the two are distinct - race is essentially the idea of differing hereditary "breeds" of human whereas ethnic identity is a matter of shared language, culture and history. One can easily assimilate into an ethnic identity, but one's race is fixed at the moment of conception if you buy into the concept. -

Well hodlee149. . . .NEWSFLASH; If you are never wrong -- then you are subhuman. You sound all too human to me especially in your VIRTUAL world of never being wrong. You say a couple of sound things and then make a statement like " . . .I'm never wrong" which really does place us in SILLY SEASON. THERE: I've challenged your statement. Your serve before I call game, set, match and walk off the 'court' . . . .What say you?

dont tell me that its the white people that are racists. black people are the ones who always bring up the race issue. blacks are more racist than any other race. if white people had white entertainment tv then you would say we were racist; but its ok for blacks to have BET. what about the united negro fund, the naacp, and all the other crap you have. don't tell me that white people are the only one's that are racist.

also, the only reason you all voted for obama was for the simple reason that he was black.-

DO NOT include me in 'you all' because your assumption for the reason of MY vote is just that: An assumption based on ignorance and hate fueled by your own fears. I voted for reasons, personally, that you aren't privvy to cardenya. Sorry. Watch the assumptions. They could be hazardous and aren't worthy of reply in most cases--like this one if I didn't have spare moments to remind you of the aforementioned.

none of those things you mentioned (NAACP, BET) are racist entities. they exist because minority groups are under, mis or non represented in many aspects of our society.
and when it comes to racism, sure there are black racists (and asian racists, and hispanic racists) but white racism is INSTITUTIONALIZED. that's why a white man with a prison record has a better chance of being hired on wall street than a black man with no record. thats why only 3% of all college football coaches are black.
when you're looking for the problem, look in the mirror. cause you simply just don't get it. -

Most intelligent adults implicitly understand that racism still exists in every race. It is quite easy to spot real racists, they will be the ones who come on here and write about how everyone else is more racist then themselves. These people project their own racist ideals on all other races.

I was torn between Clinton and Obama, but voted for him after she left the race. Before that I just didn't have a sense of who he was... rarely saw a candidate here and knew her better. But when they squared off at the last I was not happy with her attitude and not surprised she didn't win. Watching Obama negotiate the campaign, I learned he was pretty unflappable, thoughtful, intelligent, and honest with us. That he knew what he knew and what he didn't know, which is always a good trait but particularly in a leader. McCain totally lost it running off to Washington and blaming Obama for not running, it was like "Whoa!" who is this guy really? Someone commented afterward that McCain was running for second place, and I thought that was pretty apt.

Just the fact that you stated, "...the united negro fund, the naacp, and all the other crap you have. don't tell me that white people are the only one's that are racist," shows how profoundly racist you are and yet you are probably in denial about it.
Seek counseling...it will do you and the rest of the country good.

Why is this hard to believe? Is fear hard to belleve? That's the fuel of ignorance (sleep-walking). Alarm bells are sounding and 'folks' are too afraid to take a step forward; rather, find entertainment a distraction from all things scary. Palin is very entertaining: But so is a white-rhino. Wouldn't want a white, green, black or red rhino. governing or leading: Especiially now. She's harsh, aggressive and inspires confusion and awe: Like the Alaskan landscape. She'd do well to go there and learn to listen, take seriously and affirm the scared folks there who are hovering: Waiting for some answers. Enough is enough. Election is over folks. She and her pal lost. Time to move on. . . .

Cardenya, no, that's Wall Street, GM, Main Street and the unspoken non-minority group. Oh, you said "complain" . . . that's different, they don't have to complain, just be to big to fail. The government does owe the public Constitutional rights. If they don't regulate, enforce or innovate to have an economy based on fair competition then the fall out is going to affect your pocket book. Can you say that the government did its job in these areas, fair housing, business lending, education or enforcement of equal opportunity? Insist on that then you won't have the load dragging on the economy.

Obama has one directive: DON'T CHANGE. I met him while in Chicago in grad. school (and no, this is not a 'stump speech' as it was once labeled. Just found out what that is). We'd do well to support that directive rather than discuss 'parties' as if that mattered. We are all the same: Souls having a temporary human experience, How we traverse this path together matters. What matters is WHAT IS and Obama IS - now. Radicals from any group are scary and dangerous: Christian radicals included. Radical groups serve to prop us negativity and destroy all things that support, encourage and inspire (life-as-we-know-it). It's cheap grace and it is cowardly. It takes no courage to hate. It takes courage to RESIST hate and fear-mongering.

I SECOND THAT EMOTION. Puppeteerig -- good word: Accurate and sound. HIGHER POWER -- better yet. Truth is so refreshing, Like Spring Water. Nourishing, too. Unlike the crumbs and drips which we've been 'fed' during the last Administration. Barack Obama -- white, black or red -- brings to the 'table' a feast. We should help him 'set' up for Thanksgiving. :-) Just a thought. I am doing that now.

When wil all learn that our government is not won or lost by voters, there is a much higher power at work whom we will never see or speak or hear from puppeteering what we see , hear , read of our america and its goings on. Totally agree with your statement. Always looking for a freebe. Some Voters were against Clinton, but look who is up for cabinet assignments. Looks like dejavu..."Clinton Cabinet".
Hillary wasn't good enough to be President, but the "boys club" are still available.
Obama is not only black, but also half white. Don't think he'll be picking too many unqualified cabinet members. He has one hell of a job ahead. Housing market won't get any better, no matter how much you throw the money at them. Unqualified home owners who can't handle the money and sign stupid contracts so realtors and bankers can become rich. We are now bailing the same idiots out. Example AIG, guess who's partying with your TAX DOLLARS.-

Did you vote for someone that promoted and supported the bailout? If you did, you are enabling the process to continue.
Reply
Some blame needs to be placed upon the unqualified homeowners, but only a small part. They went to get a loan and an "expert" in such matters approved it. The expert took the risk on the applicant. The expert could have said no, but in a free, deregulated market, that expert had the ability to take the risk. 4 years ago, these people were considered financial geniuses. Now, they are almost considered criminal. Certainly a fine line.
The market allowed individuals to apply for loans and the money lenders had the final ability to say yes or no. Regulation could have prevented much of what went down recently, but would it have hindered the ability to do business to begin with?
You need to ask the question of whether you want a regulated or deregulated market. Regulation = government involvement. Deregulation != government involvement. Pick one and evaluate whether that makes you a liberal or a conservative. -

I watched a program about Obama and the Harvard Law Review, how he was friendly with the conservatives as well as the other black students there and when he won the editorship some were surprised, even hurt, that he didn't use the posiiton to further their aims but instead his goal was to make it the best Law Review he could. I think he has his head on straight and knows exactly what he wants to accomplish, but then that is the story of his life really.

Can't pull myself away just yet. Ride's not here. Scrolled up and saw this miriantritch. Racism is not dead, true and people often LIVE under rocks-- sad, yes. There are alot of rocks, aren't there? Yes, this electiion did light a fuse but the fire from that can bring LIGHT and so that we can all see better: So lighting a fuse can be a good thing depends upon perception. I get tired of hearing "That's my perception" as if it's a fixed thing. It isn't. IT'S A POSITION along this time line called life. iT'S CHANGEABLE and IT'S A CHOICE. Acceptance is the key. Once all things are accepted then surrendering to doing what we can do to help bring about change is next in line: Time to walk the walk. Just a reminder. We are all in this together -- like it or not. :-)

Marian: Good reminder: Barack is, indeed, also 'white' but do you think (since it is obvious that you do actually THINK) it's possible to get past that color thing? Some folks are 'wired up' visually, I realize: Not everyone can be kinesthetic (feeling oriented) but is one trapped by the visuals, I wonder. Maybe it's just me but seems that as you said, housing, food, shelter . . . PEACE among 'folks', etc. . . all top color of skin pigment but maybe not. Guess that's not as entertaining: Like Palin. I told my kid "Yes, she's entertaining but so is a clown. Wouldn't want a clown (nor a neighborhood Joe-Six-Pack for that matter) leading this country. Would you?" Ohhhhh . . . . ! Duh

Just looked at "AIG" and know what it is supposed to stand for but chuckled when re-reading it after having a flash that it LIKELY also stands for "A__es In Government" and I 'normally' don't even think of words like that. It's unlike 'me' -- usually. What and where is a thought before it is a thought? It's somewhere and it's something but it is not the THING any more than turning on the radio is the orchestral piece that it's projecting. Just wonderin' . . . . Well, it's been real: As real as anything else, I guess. Time to pray. It works. Check it our spiritually or via quantum physics. Same thing -- different name.

How can people help but be racist when there are black people telling white people that 'we have a president now, we can do whatever we want.' or 'I'm going to stay at home while you(white man)pay for ME.' This is their motivation to sit on their butts, because Hussein Obama is now the president. How sad this country will become. We're ALL screwed.

Wait until they start getting their "reparation" checks that Obama has promised to them. Even though they were not born into slavery, they all think they are "owed" the money. They forget that it was the rich black land owners in Africa that sold their own kind to the rich white man in America. If any reparation checks are due, it is from Africa. They actually talk about Obama promising that the government will make their mortgage and car payments, give them free food and clothing and education. Yes Calypso, you are right, they want another free ride while the white people support them.

The fact that you had to offer this apology; justifying and persuading us to believe that all is well with the election, suggests that your internal bias has narrowed your insight to the point of gross logical error. There were inconsistencies and challenges of ballot fraud, as there has been with every election, so don't have a hissy over it. The real proof will be recorded in the next four or less years. Either Obama can produce or he can't. He has every right to stack the deck in his favor but I can tell you the democratic party, with him at the helm, is in for some rough seas. I'm sorry there are racist complaints, on either side, but to see this as anything less than the reality that a country has been polarized by the continual rantings of those who would not respect the president of the USA, regardless of who he is, is frivolous and and juvenile.
