Pact, Approved in Iraq, Sets Time for U.S. Pullout »

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s cabinet on Sunday overwhelmingly approved a proposed security agreement that calls for a full withdrawal of American forces from the country by the end of 2011. The cabinet’s decision brings a final date for the departure of American troops a significant step closer after more than five and a half years of war.

The proposed pact must still be approved by Iraq’s Parliament, in a vote scheduled to take place in a week. But leaders of some of the largest parliamentary blocs expressed confidence that with the backing of most Shiites and Kurds they had enough support to ensure its approval.

Twenty-seven of the 28 cabinet ministers who were present at the two-and-a-half-hour session voted in favor of the pact. The near-unanimity was a victory for the dominant Shiite party and its Kurdish partners. Widespread Sunni opposition could doom the proposed pact even if it has the votes to pass, as it would call into question whether there was a true national consensus, which Shiite leaders consider essential.

Flip: I remember all the talk about "timetables" and "date-certain" by the Bushies, how it was akin to surrender. Why, it would be as though we were emailing troop schedules to bin laden himself.

    Flop: This story.

But hey, at least they could spout fear and BS to fool people for a few elections.

I'm only just realizing that there is no mention of the great and glorious american embassy ( city within a city) inside the green zone. I wonder how many troops will be kept there.

There are actually two dates in the accord:

"In an interview by telephone in Baghdad, Mohammad Hamoud, the chief Iraqi negotiator, said that the draft contained two dates: June 30, 2009, for the withdrawal of American forces from “cities and villages” and Dec. 31, 2011, for combat troops to leave the country altogether."

2011? Yeah, right. Good luck, Iraq, trying to get that pit-bull's jaws off your bone. As long you possess that black gold in the desert, the pirates that now control the American government will never leave. You can bet they'll false-flag a incident to use as an excuse to stay there, even if it involves killing their own troops. They've done it more than once before and they haven't changed, only gotten better at doing their dirt to further their agenda.
