Begich Lead Over Stevens Increases To 2,374 Votes »
Posted By cosmogenium 7 months, 2 weeks ago in Political NewsANCHORAGE, Alaska — Sen. Ted Stevens, the longest serving Republican in Senate history, narrowly lost his re-election bid Tuesday, marking the downfall of a pillar of the U.S. Senate and Alaska icon who apparently couldn't survive his conviction on federal corruption charges. His defeat to Anchorage Mayor Mark Begich moves Senate Democrats closer to a filibuster-proof 60-vote majority.

((A sad ending for such an old man who apparently got caught up in the republican greed.))

No, his OWN greed. Neither Republicans nor Democrats have the corner on greed or corruption. It is the individual's failing.

For a state whose politicians claim is so self reliant and against government assistance for anything, they have been the recipients of more pork than anyone. They always take far more money from the Federal government than they receive. In fact most of the hardcore red states are the ones operating in the red (contributing less than they receive from taxpayers). I say give them what they want. Cut them off from federal funds since they are against them.

Stevens has disgraced himself. The pork minster cometh. -

there are only two possible explanations for this close of a race:
Reply
1) nearly half of all Alaskans are complete idiots
2) vote fraud
I prefer to believe it is the latter.

I believe that's 58 Democratic seats in the senate with Al Franken / Coleman in Minnesota and Jim Martin / Saxby C. in Georgia still going. Al Franken seems to have a real good shot at winning Minnesota. However it doesn't look good for Jim Martin against Saxby.-

I live in Georgia so I'll do my part and vote for Martin. I'm wondering why Obama hasn't come to Martin's aid and campaign for him like McCain did with Saxby.

Good riddance. Stevens is the Clintonista who told Schippers during the impeachment of Clinton: "I don't care if you have a photo of Clinton raping a woman then getting up and shooting her, you're not getting 66 votes!"
Reply
It's not that everything about the impeachment was valid, but to declare rape and murder insufficient for removal from office is a pretty astonishing leap. Regardless, when it mattered most, Stevens was one of theirs, not ours.-
