President for 60 more days, Bush tearing apart protection for America's wilderness »
Posted By Fedquip 7 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsGeorge Bush is working at a breakneck pace to dismantle at least 10 major environmental safeguards protecting America's wildlife, national parks and rivers before he leaves office in January.
With barely 60 days to go until Bush hands over to Barack Obama, his White House is working methodically to weaken or reverse an array of regulations that protect America's wilderness from logging or mining operations, and compel factory farms to clean up dangerous waste.
In the latest such move this week, Bush opened up some 800,000 hectares (2m acres) of land in Rocky Mountain states for the development of oil shale, one of the dirtiest fuels on the planet. The law goes into effect on January 17, three days before Obama takes office.
The timing is crucial. Most regulations take effect 60 days after publication, and Bush wants the new rules in place before he leaves the White House on January 20. That will make it more difficult for Obama to undo them.

I am, I think he is the cats pajamas. I think Clinton left it more polluted on a moral level than any other president. A football team that forced a mentally retarded girl to perform ******** on them in 1999 or 2000 (ABC did the story), when the kids were interviewed and asked if they felt the charges of rape were warranted , they said no and they did not have sex with her. When the interviewer said "so you don't think ******** is sex?" the 17 year olds response was...."Clinton didn't think so". What a role model. At Clinton's library ...there should be a statute of Monica under his desk. Yea...good for him...who cares...as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else....pitiful

No need to worry endomoron, the baby jesus will take your choking starving grandkids to the walmart mega-church in the sky. Bring on the rapture. Lets blast out the coal and burn it in Colorado, let the fumes rain down all across the northwest, acid rain destruction of forests, increasing the greenhouse gasses, what do you care.
YOu know, endo, the moment you take your last breath, you will realize there is no heaven, no god, no baby jesus, and your worthless meaningless life was wasted dragging society into the evangelical toilet with the rest of you mega-church festering liars, and you brainwashed and poisoned the minds of your children as well, condeming them to a life of irrational conformity to the lie that is superstitious zombiehood. Ignorance and arrogance, what a combo. -

Great joke, Endo. Your impression of a moronic sludge maker's lobbyist is really good. Be careful, though. People might actually think you are one.
Seriously. Endo, where, pray tell, does your food come from? Your water? Your clothes? Your house? That's right. OUTSIDE. What will happen to your food, water et al if you pollute the OUTSIDE? That's right. It becomes unhealthy. As to that conniption fit, I'd say it's one well deserved. -

Ish, so much for being a "lame duck" president. This is why they usually escort fired employees out of the building and cancel their clearance when they are fired... so they don't try to burn the building down on the way out the door... or steal the red swingline stapler.

If it is done responsibly, yes. There is such a thing as sustainable logging practices, with greatly reduces impact to regional ecosystems, but it is seldom implemented because it is more expensive than simply clear-cutting and single-species replanting.

At the same time there are some in this administration (Cheney comes to mind) who have made provisions to their homes in case the scientists are right that GW does exist. Also at the same time, plans are underway to develop the moon and Mars. Great if you're wealthy and can afford to leave. What about the rest of us? i think we should take care of what we have before we go do the same thing or worse to the moon, Mars and God only knows where else.

We might not be able to eat money, but the conservatives will still argue that will be good as long as we embrace "Free Market", and the fact that we (actually a small group of rich people) make a profit.

Why conserve when you can consume now. Drilling rights, minning rights, polluting rights, etc. will be hugely expensive in the future, THE CORPORATIONS are thankful to a President, like Bush, that has foreseen their plight.

"what's one more", in the environment and wildlife, extinction is forever. You can't undo an environmental catastrophe, once done, it can not be undone. You may be able to fix some, but it will never be the same as God created it.
