I am so sad to hear this.

I sit here and read all sorts of things about Obama being the Devil.
Well, this thing Bush is doing, this willful and deliberate work of destruction upon the Earth, is really and truly the work of one who is Anti-Christ.
It really is.
We have to stop Bush.

"If the rules go into effect before Obama takes office, they will be difficult to overturn since it would require the new administration to restart the rule-making process. Congress, however, could reverse the rules through the Congressional Review Act, a law that allows review of new federal regulations."

This is monumental to breaking down all the work done by the top scientists, researchers, wildlife and environmental agencies (government and private sectors) that have dedicated them selves to preserving Endangered Species, brought many back from the brink of extinction and now we watch helplessly as they are carelessly tossed aside by the Bush Administration, may they all (Censored...Bleep, Bleep, Bleep Censored)

All the Executive orders made since May can be reversed by Obama fairly easily. What is funny is that the Bush administration thought they had until the end of November to make these "last minute changes" that would endure. They are so incompetent that they didn't even know when the cut-off date was.
Reply
Frankly, I find it fitting that his "legacy" will so easily be erased and the fault lies squarely on his administration's shoulders. Total incompetency and corruption brought down by their own incompetence and corruption. Talk about poetic justice!-

They said Obama can not undo this, it will take an act of congress for this one.
Reply
What is bad is that in 60+ days until Obama takes over and congress meets again so much damage can be done that it will be irreversible, The number of nesting habitats bull dozed over, clean water and clean air protection rules etc. will be decimated. Because when it is reversed, the damage will all ready be done.
If they file the papers on time today, over 30 years of hard work done by caring individuals and organizations will of been for nothing and millions and millions of dollars wasted, species brought back from the brink of extinction will be at the edge again, it goes all the way up to innocent people losing a quality of life since industry can set up right next to them.

I am a proponent of protecting wildlife especially birds of prey so Eagles are dear to my heart. Many years ago I attended a conference on Endangered species and the speaker opened with a story. This Red neck was caught shooting an Eagle and cooking it for dinner. He was arrested and taken to trial. Before sentencing the Judge asked him. Just out of curiosity what does an Eagle taste like? The good old boy thought for a minute and answered, a little like a Peregrine Falcon.

Guys, saving the planet isn't a bad thing. However, more often than not, people claiming to be environmentalist would rather see humans become extinct over animals migrating. We've seen countless claims of animals being at risk or in danger only to be proven wrong.
Reply
They also don't know what we're doing when we reintroduce animals. In Wisconsin the "save the gray wolf" folks released wolves. The hope was to have the "majestic" animals roaming the woods living in harmony with everyone. They would have ample deer for food and everything will be wonderful. Well the wolves were clearly smarter than the environmentalists. Deer are difficult to hunt, the farmer's domestic cattle are not. We have over 1000 breeding pairs here now and the problem continues. Seeing the problem, the DNR released wild turkeys. Again, the idea was to offer easier prey for the wolves. Didn't work, the turkeys were smarter than the wolves and the DNR. So now we're being over run by wild turkeys who like destroying corn crops. Instead of expanding the hunting season for turkeys, the DNR came up with another solution. Someone at the DNR heard that Rattle Snakes love turkey eggs. You guessed it. The environmental geniuses at the DNR released hundreds of Rattle Snakes. We've never had more bites reported in our history of keeping records. I'm sure they'll come up with a new solution like releasing mongoose or gorillas or something else that will cause other problems.
Tell me when the environmental groups finally admit they don't know what they're doing either.-

I think the lesson to be learned here BB64 is that we can't play God. It is not up to humans whether a species survives or not - though we can certainly have a hand in its destruction.
Reply
Nature is fluid and will take what we throw at it. We need to ensure that we keep the planet in a state that will support life (ex: poisoning streams and groundwater not a good idea), but I think that for us to try to preserve endangered species just because they are endangered is not our role in the world.
Extinction was happening long before man arrived on the planet, and new species are discovered every day.
We shouldn't go out and try to eliminate endangered species, but I don't think it's our place to make sure they all survive.-

"but I think that for us to try to preserve endangered species just because they are endangered is not our role in the world."
Reply
WTH???? Why do you think they are going extinct????? With out wildlife we are next!!!
Extinction happened because of huge natural disasters, the only thing that survived them were the cockroaches, reptiles and some fish.
So I guess you think it is ok for me, the American Bald Eagle, symbol of the United States of America to go back toward extinction.....with out us, the balance between nature, pestilence will take over. but you go ahead and make more chemicals to spray to kill the bugs and poison the rodents that eat the crops and see how long you'll survive.
It's going to be a very cold, dark, empty and uncivilized world.
I do thank God for having the chance to experience all the wonders and glory that the earth once had. It will never be the same, it will never be beautiful, all of this was done in 8 years by one mans stolen election.-

I'm going to pose a hypothetical question here, and please understand that I do so just to generate thought in the matter.
Reply
Is the American Bald Eagle necessary to the planet? Could it not be replaced by another bird of prey, even another eagle, that could fill the same ecological niche?
If, on the other hand, ALL birds of prey are decreasing in numbers, and we can see that this is negatively affecting the natural balance, then likely something should be done.
If something is polluting the natural environment, is it really for animals' sake that we should stop it, or for our own?
Extinction EVENTS happen because of natural disasters, but other species have gone extinct simply because they no longer fit the planet. They evolved, or they disappeared. The kiwi did not go extinct because of a natural disaster, it was too stupid to escape increasingly clever predators; the same with the dodo bird.
There's a debate going on in Canada whether we should spend more to try to restore the Grizzly Bear population in my province. Is there a compelling reason to keep the grizzlies around? It seems that anytime someone encounters one, the government response - from the park wardens, no less - is to kill the bear. Why increase their numbers just so that we'll have to kill more of them?
And blaming Bush for ALL of the destruction of the planet? Get a grip. I don't like Bush, but you're giving him a little too much credit here. Corporatization, working for the bottom line instead of the common good, has destroyed the planet. We love money and power instead of our neighbors, and value immediate pleasure over future sustainability. This didn't start with Bush; it didn't start with Reagan; it has been a problem with mankind for all of known history.-

It's kinda like trying to bail out the auto industry.
Reply
If the industry is no longer sustainable, then a bailout only delays the inevitable. If it is sustainable, then the bailout is likely not necessary. Though the individual companies may fail (go extinct), they will be replaced with more resilient "species".
Life, business, the world, must be allowed to evolve, or we will get stuck in the trap of constantly trying to preserve an impossible past.
At the same time, we should not choke off life, business, or the environment, and make it impossible for it to continue. Policies should allow these things to flourish, but you can't force them to. Subsidies almost always cause more problems in the end.

I agree with you totally. By the way most conservatives want the clean water & air too. We haven't found a viable alternative to breathing or drinking. As you understood, I was pointing out that man shouldn't try to play God. The Wisconsin DNR is possibly the best example. Every time they find a "solution" they tend to make matters worse.

I saw that on the news just today , I thought it was very interesting. I think they mentioned that the DNA of the elephant was very similiar. I have my doubts that they will be able to bring back dinosaurs since most of the surviving relatives are now very small in comparisism, maybe we could get mini-dinosaurs.

So far the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reports 63 record snowfalls in the United States, 115 lowest-ever temperatures for the month. Only 44 Octobers over the past 114 years have been cooler than this last one.
The polar ice is accumulating faster than usual, and some of the experts now concede that the globe hasn't warmed since 1995.

Yes it is interesting, our global climate change is unprecedented and an unknown. No one knows what is going to happen, they are all just predicting, But it is better to error on the right side than to totally ignore the changes. Whole populations of some continents are starving because they can't grow food and raise live stock. What are you going to do when that happens in America???
Reply
What if the exact opposite of global warming happens and we get colder and can't grow food any more???-

Weather patterns change. Since when did a few years of heat or cold mean global warming. In the 70's it was cooling. In the 80's it was acid rain. Then when Clinton & Gore were in the White House the weather cleared. Then when Bush was in Global warming. Al Gore and the folks like that should be charged with fraud. Selling books claiming warming and worse he owns a company selling carbon credits. What a scam.

Good question. We have been, and still are so focused on GW that what if, as you say, "we get colder and can't grow crops anymore". Seems to me we should focus less on blaming (anthropogenic) who is causing "climate change" and zero in on ways to combat different changes that are causing food shortages or loss of usable land.
Reply
The right side is climate cycles require us to adapt; alarmism only fuels discontent among the masses and does nothing to adavance solutions.-

So, what do you suggest, do we keep going like we have and develop valuable farm land into mass suburban sprawls? Do we continue manufacturing with out regulations about how much emissions they can put in the air? Do we bail out car makers that ignored warning and continued to build big SUV? Do we continue to foreclose on families that tried to attain the American Dream? Do we not worry about the possibility of genetic manipulation of crops could lead to crop failure? Do we worry about not having enough grain or hay to feed live stock? Do we worry about the air we breath and the water we drinK?
All of the above worries are the worries of environmentalists and caring people.....at this point I am done worrying about others and am now taking the attitude of me, myself and I (this also includes my hubby & animals). As far as the rest of the world is concerned they can go **** themselves...(except for my closes Propeller friends, wink) -

You will find a flimsy problem solving foundation without a thorough understanding of the whys, wheres, whens, etc... I do agree that blame is not necessary to find a solution, but understanding the problem is crucial.

The irony is that you have not really applied the same logic to your other arguments. Suggesting such logic is well and good, but leading by example is much better.
You can do well to inform your talk show entertainment icon of the same thing.

Bush's idea of "if you don't eat it you don't need it" mentality. I certainly hope that if he ever makes it to an older age he will be sorry for royally messing things up for his progeny. Saving wild animals that are part of the life cycles in nature helps out the environment too. but somebody like the King Twit will never realize it.

I'm thinking that it is now a good time to take a vacation because the reality of what is going to happen in the next couple of years is going to be devastating. Humans don't have a clue what it is like to be homeless, hungry, thirsty, cold, sick and no hope.
Reply
Coming home from the Dr. today there were more homeless on the corners of the interstate with signs, a family in the grocery shopping center living in their station wagon with a sign saying they needed food.
It's only going to get worse by Christmas. We are in a down ward spiral and our leader with his buddies is laughing all the way to the bank.
I find it really amazing how this administration has managed to bankrupt the entire world.-

If you continue to blame just the current administration, you cannot possibly see that the root of the problem lies far deeper and will be far harder to fight. Nor can you begin to fight it.
Reply
Maybe it's TIME to rework these rules. They don't seem to be working, the planet is not healthier than when they were introduced. Endangered species rules are, by their very nature, band-aids only. By the time a species has deteriorated to the point of becoming endangered, incredible amounts of damage to the environment has already been done. I think it's time to start sooner. Observe animal population trends in all species, rather than just a select few which it may be too late for, anyway.

Nobody wants to see any animal go extinct, but very often, endangered animals are used by enthusiasts to promote other agendas. I fail to see what the article has to do with saving ferrets, whooping cranes and humpback whales.

Simon a few years ago I saw something sort of similiar. The bald eagles come through here about the end of March just when we are having calves born. my brother and I witnessed an eagle swoop down and grab a small calf that likely weighed 60 lbs , he took it about 40 feet into the air just with his momentum and then dropped it , needless to say the calf was killed by the fall and the eagle then landed to eat it.. I guess I should have been hostile about it but it was impressive and also we were able to collect compensation from the depatment of wildlife.

there are several issues that don't include this administration.
Reply
1.) there are too many people.
2.) no one knows if anthropogenic CO2 has caused the warming or cooling trend that we see.
3.)we don't know how the atmosphere works.
and the corollary to 3.) we can't determine if any changes that we see are from people.
so, we can all just relax a bit.
the US can reduce emissions, but only in a sensible economic fashion. it doesn't do any good to beggar ourselves doing 'green' things that don't make economic sense.
thing is, H Waxman just took over the House energy committe. i can't wia tto see how stupid he's going to get. with the Hollywood brain trust callingthe shots anything can happen. -

I comment on this story with mixed feelings, as a child my grandfather told me about how he saw bald eagles flying over in the spring and fall, for many years I never even thought that I would see a bald eagle on our property but now they are common in the spring and fall, which shows how if we make and effort we can make a difference.

On the other hand we have a small creek that flows across our pasture and a few years ago the government put it under the control of the ocean and fisheries department. There is now no way that I can do anything at all near this creek, I cannot even put gravel in for a crossing, on corners where it erodes the bank I cannot put in large rock, or I cannot deepen some of the holes where the cattle water. The thing that bothers me the most is that in 2003 we had a dry summer and the creek basically dried up and as I walked down the dry creekbed I found hundreds if not thousands of dead fish, if I had been allowed to deepen some of the larger holes many of those fish likely would have survived.
What scares me the most now is they are talking of making us put a fence along the whole creek to keep the cattle out, this is a very winding creek and it covers around 7 miles of distance over only two miles of pasture, if I fence it off there will not be much pasture left and also the cost will have to be paid for by me.
Even with all this nonsense I have to face I do wish you well. -
