Hundreds of Cairo Teens Arrested for Flirting With Girls »
Posted By altnrg 1 year ago in FamilyEgyptian police have rounded up hundreds of teenage boys in Cairo in a day-long crackdown on sexual harassment. "We have arrested a large number of boys who were flirting with girls," Cairo's police director Faruq Lashin said.
About 400 teenagers, aged between 15 and 17, were arrested on Wednesday and will be brought before a judge, he said. Police targeted teenagers in front of schools, universities and along the Nile's banks, he added. The teenagers were expected to be fined.
Women's rights groups in Egypt have long campaigned against sexual harassment and assault in Cairo, accusing police of ignoring the phenomenon. On Monday, a Cairo court jailed a teenager for one year for sexually assaulting two women. Another teenager, a 17 year old, is facing trial on the same charge And at least 34 men were arrested after they allegedly assaulted women in an affluent Cairo neighborhood during a Muslim holiday in January.
Such convictions are relatively rare in Egypt, which does not have a law defining sexual harassment, but a court in October sentenced a man to three years in jail for groping a woman.

Come ons may not be viewed as very benign by girls and women who may face prison, lashing, stoning to death, or other punishments for being victims of sex crimes, which may include just being seen with a male who is not a relative..

What if the boys were just sitting in the front of the school and merely whacking off when a sweet, young thing walked by. I remember being that age. I hard a constant hard-on all the time. It was like having pryopism. There is nothing wrong with talking to girls and possibly slapping their pubescent salamis. Egyptians chicks are hot! They are asking for it. They're all asking for it!!!!

meme is definately correct. We (Care2.com) are fighting for the release of a girl who was raped in Egypt. She is not considered the victim, she is the perpetrator! She is going to be stoned to death by citizens of the city she lives in. Now how horrible is this? It keeps me up nights wondering what on God's green earth I can help do to stop this kind of madness! If we know about this type of treatment, what kind of treatment goes on behind closed doors that we dont know about!!!

Actually, I went on a vacation to Egypt two years ago, and believe me, most of the time, if an Egyptian man saw anything with breasts walk by between the age of 13 and 60, they went for it (especially if the men had the women pegged for an American). I'm female and not even attractive, but someone asked for a kiss at random while I was there, and I was called beautiful at least once a day. Its crazy.

I know by our standards this all sounds silly or backwards but in the middle eastern culture this is big stuff. We're not talking about getting a ticket with a fine. The penalty could very easily be traumatic and long lasting. Why can't we seem to get it through to Americans that most of the world isn't like us and really doesn't care what we think.

The media is known for not reporting the full details of such stories. Thus, we cannot assume a self-opinion. This is purposely done by the media (whoever the author may be) to intice the reader to read on and to draw attention to the writer of the report.

I think a big part of the problem is semantics. The police call it flirting, while others (i.e., the victims and advocacy groups) call it sexual harassment and assault. Frankly, in a culture where females are considered property and sub-human, I'm hardly surprised that the numbers are as high as they are for assault.

There is a HUGE difference between flirting and assaulting. It's as big a difference as dating and mollesting. The person who wrote this article should be FIRED.

Also, arresting a bunch of horny teenage boys and putting them in a jail together is not a healthy situation, either. -

Wow, many of you people are looking at this article adn what happened over there from our stand point, from OUR laws. You can't do that for many reasons. One, what WE believe as right and wrong others may not or they may believe a lot more strongly in many areas and weaker in others than we do. Fact is, if these kids were braking the laws of their country they should be punished, it's THEIR law! Maybe if people would respect the LAW a little more there wouldn't be articles like this trying to show how other countries treat their countrymen so bad, which in fact they do not! There HAS to be respect for the law in EVERY country, doesn't matter if you agree or even understand it.

Yet another article from OUR country trying to make another country look bad for whatever reason. Fact is, if these kids broke the law then they should be punished. Doesn't matter if you agree witht he law or not, they have it for a very good reason. What may not seem very serious t you can be very serious to another especially in another country where their lives and coulters are so very different. Also, stop relating this crime with OUR own law, it's just not the same thing at all. They have their laws for very good reasons just like we do with our own laws. These kids broke them and should be punished for it PERIOD! Maybe if people had more RESPECT for their laws, thingsliek this wouldn't even be happening, in ANY country!

How like a male to think that this is not troubling. Unless you livee in a country where a man can do anything to a female and laugh it off, whereas a woman or even a little girl is stoned to death or flogged for being a victim. It may seem funny to the American male but believe me, it is scary and painful to the female. If you do not know about the culture, do not laugh at what is happening or look down on it. Life is tough for the women in counties where being a woman is not all fun and joy. There is a wise saying that unless you can walk in one's shoe, do not laugh at their plight. The American female is not treated like that and if she was you could be taken to court for it. In the middle east and many places in asia the plight of a woman is sad. It may be be funny to you men in countries where there is equality of sexes. Even if a man commits rape , he gets of scot-free and the woman is flogged or killed. If that sounds funny to you, laugh. I wonder if you big boys would laugh if your sisters, daughters or mothers were treated like that by unthinking, uncultured and unruly men. Big boys and men should try to think of the women's point of view. If a woman cannot do anything to help herself when men harrass her, it is not funny , but tragic. ...................a woman from asia.
