In the first civilian court ruling for terror suspects challenging their detention, U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon said Thursday that the five men could not be held indefinitely as enemy combatants.

He says the military can continue to detain one of the Algerians.

One of the men to be released is Lakhdar Boumediene, whose landmark Supreme Court case last summer gave the Guantanamo detainees the right to challenge their imprisonment.

The government had accused all six of the men of planning to travel to Afghanistan to join al-Qaida.

chik: I am going to do a google search on this guy, cause I don't know enoough to speak intelligently yet. However, a couple of questions, are we detaining those guilty of thought crime? 'planning to go Afghanistan to join AQ" is vague. Do you have a suggested reading list for wrongly detained Gitmo prisoners?

Terror suspects! Terror suspects! Terror suspects! Let's pound it into your brain just a little harder. They are unleashing terrorists into our world! OMG! Do you get it?

Just the headline of this story leads you down a path. Don't you become frightened just by reading it? It's what is being fed into the msm today.

These men ceased to be terrorists and suspects because there has NEVER been evidence or charges against them. 7 years. The truth is finally squeaking out. But never admit the whole truth. Let everyone think they still may be terrorists. They are after all muslim and arab. Do you get it yet?

How about a new title. 'Judge releases 5 innocent men from Gitmo' No that's not good either - it leads you down another path. And it doesn't make you afraid. It doesn't tell you that mistakes have been made.

So how about plain old '5 men released from Gitmo. Pretty boring - but true.

Now they can go and become suicide bombers. Who will they take with them. That is what happened the last time there were people released from there.

OK fine let them go but I want the judge's name and address so when any of them does commit a terrorist act against the US we can bring the judge up on charges of treason against the security of the United States. There has to be some accountability if this is how it's going to be.

It is a sad circumstance when a country endeavors to fight a pathetic and cowardly enemy, while trying to pacify individuals who enjoy the fruits of its liberties yet seek to destroy the very foundation of those liberties.

Be careful what you hope for. We will probably see most of these guys again...... and I would bet it won't be too long.
Not a scare tactic but truth to come. And I am not saying that a very few of these characters are not guilty but I am extremely leary of the most of them.
