Recount, day 3: Ballot challenges rise in Ramsey County »
Posted By Ciera-Marie 1 year, 1 month ago in Political NewsThe U.S. Senate recount entered its third day with more than half the 2.9 million ballots still to be reviewed and Republican incumbent Norm Coleman's lead over DFL challenger Al Franken standing at 147 votes, a slight rise from earlier today but fewer than his unofficial advantage of 215 that was certified Tuesday by the state Canvassing Board.
A rash of challenges marked today's recount action in Ramsey County, with observers from both campaigns questioning voters' intent far more widely than they did the first two days. There were only 10 challenges Wednesday and Thursday, thanks largely to post-recount mediation sessions both afternoons in which county Elections Manager Joe Mansky and attorneys and volunteers from both campaigns whittled them down.
About 83,000 ballots were counted in Ramsey County on Wednesday and Thursday, but officials expected that pace would slow as more ballots are challenged.
