I agree with much of your analysis, particularly the statement that "Whether or not Bush administration officials can be subject to criminal prosecution or impeachment, the exposure of their acts can subject them to the kind of public repudiation they deserve." That is consistent with my perspective that the new Administration setting the correct example and demanding responsibility of their own members will go a long way to rehabilitating the reputation of the US in human rights that has been so damaged by the Bush administration.
I also agree that the US should resurrect accountability, but that might be achieved by the Obama administration ensuring accountability of their own members, without persuing criminal charges against members of the outgoing administration.
It seems highly unlikely to me that a majority of Americans want Pres. Bush impeached, particularly considering the short time he will remain in office and his apparent inability to do anything at all at this time.
