A Year’s Worth of Documentary Footage Lost »

Posted By sumobackup2008 1 year ago in News

When I was in high school a few years ago I was in the robotics team but I actually did nothing with the robots. I had nothing to do with the robots.
I was the team videographer. So I would record all the tournaments that we would go to and then at the end of the year I would put that all together into a video compilation of some highlights.
So, in my final year in which we got to go to the National Championships in Atlanta I was really excited about doing the video and I had been working incredibly hard on all the footage which was stored on my computer at home and we of course didn’t have backup of it.
Well… what happened was my dad defragmented the hard drive and deleted some files that he thought were junk the day before I was due to present the video. The footage was deleted. I had to end up going through every single tape I had and recording all the video again and editing it down.
I had to work all night to finish it off and didn’t get any sleep but I finally did get a half decent video done. It wasn’t nearly as good as the original though.
If only I had taken the project and actually backed it up onto another hard drive it would have been so much easier. Thank you.

We all learn the hard way !!!! - but it's happened to most of us. The other option to backing up the drive is to commit the program to tape or DVD - no easy option to go back and re edit, but at least you have a master - for more options on how to archive your program's look at http://www.dsdigitalvideo.tv
