This is why it takes more than troops and bombs to win the war on terror. You must win the hearts and minds of the people to prevent them from wanting to join these kinds of groups. These groups feed on poverty by lifting up the impoverished.

Yes, you have a point. And military force should only be used as a last resort. I understand trying to teach the younger generation a different way of living that does not call for martyrdom. But you are going to have 2 or more generations that as too far gone. They only know war, violence and martydom. And military force is the only way to deal with most of them. Some you MIGHT be able to reel some back into society. But not many. Hezbollah has used its money and influence to help people but only to further there cause of war with Israel and the west. So, you must wiegh the benefit with the cost of dealing with a terrorist organization. No different then street gangs, organized crime, the KKK, and our own govt. No I am not comparing our govt. to a terroist organization. I am saying you never get something for nothing. And the American public does not have the will to commit to a long term involvement. We have grown use to fix it quick now and leave. And that is a problem, no long term/ forward thinking. And now you have elected a govt that wants to do to us, what Hezbollah has done to its people. Made then dependant, but for a price.-

I understand Hezbollaha's reasoning. They grasp the concept of 'you catch more flies with honey.' But this is no different than any political force that needs to keep the people in its pocket to survive. It doesn't matter what the reasons. What matters is that it works. And if we want to get a handle on the people in the ME, we aren't going to achieve it by force. They'll fight back....to the bitter end. Better to have a bigger pot of honey.

Yes, it does matter the reason. If you use people for your dirty work then you are as much of the problem then the solution. That makes you a thug , living a thug life, only using the people that you are pretending to care about. If that is your motive then the people are better off fending for themselves. By not taking your hand outs only to be persuaded to do an act of terror for you. Feeding there(terrorist) agenda and not yours. The ones that fight back , will fight just because that is all they know. You have to deal with them one way or another. Educating the children is a way to help stabilize the future. Black adults would tell black youths that they will amount to nothing because they are black. Not in a white world therefore causing more problems then fixing. NOW, we have a president-elect that is black. So that arguement is mute. Something, I don't know what yet, has to happen to prove to the ME that martydom is not the way. Fighting, bombings, suicide attacks are not the way. There are other ways to get your voice heard without pulling a trigger or pushing the button of a detonator. I just hope we figure what that something is soon because the weapons are getting more powerful by the day.

So now you call someone a thug.....then what? How does that diffuse a bad situation? As long as Hezbollah helps the people, they're going to stand by Hezbollah. So WE have to find a way to get past Hezbollah, and reach the people. And we're not going to do that by tough guy tactics. I'm not trying to say Hezbollah isn't 'bad.' I'm only saying we have to find a better way to deal with the ME mess.

I call it how I see it.(thug, terrorist etc) As I said, Something, I don't know what yet, has to happen to prove to the ME that martydom is not the way. Hezbollah feeds on the hate, distrust and possible destruction of Israel with money and weapons from Iran. I don't know, broke that support. No one has found that answer yet. H*ll, if I knew, I would not sitting here. But we can't be hamstrung on dealing with the "thugs of Hezbollah". AQ in the Anbar Province used heavy handed tactic that got them kicked out of the area by locals. Maybe the way to discredit Hezbollah is to cause a riff with the locals, either natural or man-made. No local support, no hide outs, no recruits. Maybe we can learn something from Anbar Province. Using the same tactics for street gangs, if the community is not cowed down they can't run around and do there trade.

Why? So we can have a third generation that knows war and nothing else?

I agree with the leave part, but what have you fixed quickly or at all?-

If we don't deal with the 2+ generation that have gone to far, then they will deal with us. Most likely by force because that is all they know. They will see us as weak and try to take advantage of it. Sound familiar??

Fix quick comment: Any and every peacekeeping/ military opeation that was done from Operation Urgent Fury and Beruit (1983) until now. Pick one they are quite a few. This has been the longest conflict since Viet Nam that we have been engaged. Everybody got use to in-out or fought at 20,000 ft. It caused more problems then it solved.
