Canada isn’t in the world’s spotlight very often but most people could tell you where Canada is on a map. (Well, maybe not Miss Teen South Carolina ) Ask anyone outside of Canada what the capital of Canada is and you’ll likely be met with a quizzical frown. Why is it that Canada’s capital is such a mystery to non-Canadians? Probably because it’s a mystery to many Canadians as well…

It is a beautiful city. I went there to celebrate Canada Day for the year 2000. It was a great time... never a dull moment.

Good post nightcrawlerX. I admit, if someone said: "Quick, name the Capital of Canada!" I'd say "Harold!"
The story surprised me a little. I thought it was about Canada's other forgotten capital.

Though, with the U S Dollar in the tank, I've got no room to pun. =(

I lived in Ottawa from age 4 to 6.

        Liked it.

I lived in Limbo, I forget what state it's in.
Wasn't as cramped as that old shoe with that old woman though.
Now that nobody's mentioned it, is the picture of the logs a tourist attraction. Are those regulation logs? How many 2'x4's can you spot?
Quick, name the capital of New Zealand!

Hmmm... It seems I'm 170 years too late with my response. Oh well, I'd probably still tell you that Waltzing Matilda is the Australian National Anthem.

Isn't it?! Beats me. It takes me 15 minutes to just recite the 1st stanza of the U S National Anthem, with all of the pauses for memory.
I think the capital of Australia is Kookaburra or something.

BTW, I've named the capital of New Zealand "Alfred".

I thought your initial response was a clue to the capital city (currently Wellington).

Interesting, that Wellington is the capital for much the same reason that Ottawa is. New Zealand's government was afraid that the South Island would split if they didn't move the capital closer. It is now as close as possible to being between the two islands.

                      Yuu thunk rite!! Hyuk yuk!
Most of the capitals in the states were set up for central access. The National Capital was set in the District of Columbia, as a hedge against state bragging rights. (Lol! Imagine that!)
It was also sited in it's current location to be a central point among the original 13.
It also has the honor and distinction of being my birthplace.

Ottawa is a fine city. Got walled in by an ice storm there.

Toronto and Montreal both seem more like a capital, though.

Thanks to the quality of public education in the US, it may be confidently asserted that every student in the United States knows where Canada is and what its capital is....if they're homeschooled.

                    Humorous comment, Georgia50.
I went to public schools with all of my homies. The best school was in the Detroit public school system, but it was in the '50s.
We had foreign language studies, arts, music (contemporary and classics), Theater arts (we put on Beowulf in the 5th grade). The auditorium was a full theater auditorium. We had all of this along with the standard curriculum.
We moved to a small town in the '60s. It was a culture shock to say the least. In Day-Twah, my sister and I where two of maybe twenty white kids that attended Winterhalter (named for Admiral Winterhalter). In the country, we went to a predominantly white school. It sucked.

There's a high school final exam floating around on the internet somewhere. It's from the 20s or 30s, a school in Kansas if memory serves. Most college kids today and yours truly would be hard pressed to pass it.

As a country we've really let oursevles and our kids down when it comes to the discipline of education.
