No, ameliog. Imho, true Christmas has been lost for the most part. This is some kind of perversion. Christmas used to be when we slowed down, took time for neighbors, put aside differences. We'd cook for days, share with everyone, friends and strangers alike.

Actually I think it shows you something about what our society is becoming - people are totally self centered. "I" and "Me" is more important than anything else even human life

I agree up to the point of your "All the way to: What can the government do for "Me"" which just smacks of anti-liberal dogma. One could also look at it as "What can the government do to help those without, what can the government do to help 'them.'"

I can't believe that these individuals were that crazed to not notice they were stepping one someone. It is one of the most sick events I have ever heard. Awful, selfish, selfish act. I hope there are charges pressed on every footprint made on each and everyone with murder. There has to be justice for this person and their families. I can't even fathom this.

Why do they even let these people continue to shop, if i was the store owner and something happened like that, I would shut my doors and no one would shop for anything....and if i was the only place in town that had your item, well... i guess you'll be paying full price tomorrow.

On December 3, 1979 outside the Riverfront Coliseum in Cincinnati, Ohio eleven people were killed and dozens were injured in a crush of people trying to get into the arena. Fans were waiting outside for a Who concert scheduled to take place that night.
Reply
Thousands of fans (with first-come, first-served festival seating tickets) rished towards the locked doors when they mistook the band's sound check for the concert having started. People were trampled and crushed before the doors were unlocked. The Who went on to play that night, unaware of the tragedy outside.
After the tragedy Cincinnati put a ban on festival or general admission seating. That ban was only lifted once for a 2002 Bruce Springsteen concert and then on August 4, 2004 the ban was lifted totally by city councel, concerned that performers were skipping Cincinnati because they could not have general admission seating.
To prevent any problems, new rules limit the number of tickets (based on square footage of the concert location) and all the doors to the festival seating area will have to be opened two hours before the concert. Ushers and security personnel must be in place before the doors are opened, and a written evacuation plan is required.

And now that we have a black president.... I was in downtown Dayton tonight for the anual christmas tree-lighting and children's parade and was waiting in line for the carosell when a large group of black people separated and cut in line individually and specifically in front of separate white people and the one that cut in front of me threatened my baby!! Her exact words were "I'll knock over that stroller." And when I called for the police she told them I made it all up and called me a female dog 23 times. Welcome to Blamericka!!

You know. I have been in some pretty scarey mosh pits that got out of hand and people got trampled. Ive been in a Super Bowl riot with the tear gas and great mobs of people running all over the place. People got hurt, but no one died in any of those cases. To hear a person gets trampled to death working at a Walmart. This society is sickens me at times.

There is much blame to go around for this tragedy, not the least of which is the retailers who encourage this insanity with these "first come" limited-time offers. End black Friday. Also there was totally inadequate security, and from the sound of it, they never should have opened the doors, and should have called the national guard for crowd control instead!!

You know Christmas in America means people rushing into the store like idiots to buy gifts for other idiots! These are the same people who crowd together in a building next to other idiots every Sunday and claim they love Jesus Christ. At the same time they are the ones that speed on the roads with their kids in the cars. This is nothing new. Christmas is not about acting like a jerk in these stores trying to get deals on crap you don't need. Most of the people who buy the stuff are then in my pawn shop the following months selling their things or pawning it off!

WALMART should be held accountalbe! They fail to provide safe conditions for workers AND shoppers-this is not the first time it's happened. Yeah, the shoppers are jackasses and yeah if I could ID them on tape, I'll file charges against them-but WALMART would get top billing. And I bet they paid the worker so little, he, like a good portion of their employees, qualify for food stamps and state aid, while they rake in BILLIONS and screw over the manufacturers to boot. This might be a little off subject but I had a long discussion w/ my 18 year old yesterday and the safety of shopping at this time of the year. I explained to her that w/ the approaching holiday season and desperation of the economy and job/home losses she should not be walking to her automobile alone at a shopping center, all packages should be kept in her trunk not in view of the backseat and carry her cell phone and car keys in her purse but in her pockets. The mounting pressures combined w/ the stresses of the holiday season make people crazy...enough to even trample workers. Its pretty sad.

Sure black people can achieve, but we ignore the evidence of overall failure. Take KookLibfornia for instance. Whites have a drop out rate of 15.2%. Blacks have a drop out rate of 41.6%. What's that about? Even in the most progressive state in The Union can't do anything for blacks. Or should I say "African Americans", which is funny because nearly half couldn't find Africa on a map.
Just think what happens when the whites hand over the reigns of power. Name one successful country ran by blacks in Africa. To be fair, it'd have to be sub-Saharan. Arabs are pretty crappy when it comes to administration, but at least they have Islam to keep the riff-raff in line, and they aren't the blacks we're talking about.

I don't understand why the stores need to get mobs of people acting like dumb a** lunatics to make sales. As far as I can remember (at least 40 years ago) we would look forward to the thanksgiving day newspaper with all the sales in it. We wouldn't have to camp out over night to buy anything that was on sale. no store promoted one specific item. we could go to the mall and everyone was calm, no tension in the air. You could actually feel the Christmas spirit. what a shame that it's not like that anymore. before long, they will be moving black friday to the day before halloween. I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and state with certainty that no one intended to kill that man. I would also say that, had they noticed, they might have cared. I've worked crowd control before (with the secret service). We slowly funnel masses of people to 'gates', ever decreasing the pressure while maximizing control. Never send a herd of two legged animals through a cattle chute. We aren't built for that.
It saddened me to note the racial mix of the crowd. I knew it would fuel hateful and bigoted reactions from the small minded. This could have, and has happened, in an all white area. The more telling, yet less glaring, demographic detail I noticed, was the apparent age of the crowd.
Regarding the racist and ignorant statements made. Thanks for showing your ass.

I think that one it is pretty sad that a man has lost his life all in the name of the almighty dollar. Sure those people more than likely got the gift that their kids wanted for them for less money but at what price? Do they plan to tell their children "be greatful for that toy because mommy/daddy had to kill someone to get it literally". I think that this incident shows just how little value the majority of our society places on human life compared to money and materialism. Secondly, shame on all of you who are blaming African Americans for this tragic event. What does the color of a person's skin have to do with the content of their heart? What does our president elect have to do with this? I personally was a McCain supporter but people need to wake up and realize that yes we will have an African American president come January and yes he will make mistakes just like all of the white presidents in our past. He is human, a human with dark skin but nonetheless a human. We cannot hold this man to any higher standards than we have any other president.

In these cases it's more like a mob, or herd mentality. There are many questions and blame to assign for this event, but every event is OUR individual chance to take a moment to be introspective and honestly critique ourselves and our lives. We're eager to say, "I would NEVER" ...., but the question to ask is "What in my life am I so eager to get or have that I've trampled someone or something to have it?" Or "When have I been in such a rush that I overlooked doing something more important?" Isn't there some self-comfort from distancing ourselves from what's right near or in ourselves - all to get what's needed? Some people involved will do the same and justify their actions with "I didn't know" or some other reason. However, those of us who were not there have to also ask, "I ever trampled by some off-handed remark or direct action someone's goals", squashed someone's feelings or self-esteem over some trivial event, or killed another person's hopes? Each of us has missed the point when we look at this event as isolated. It was at the extreme, but completely a first? No. Just research tramplings and deaths at soccer matches in Europe. We progress so minutely and bemoan the ills of the world because we spend more time looking outside ourselves to see wrongs; express momentary remorse, blame or indignation at a comment, but expect self-change to be the work of someone else. This man's death and the events were both real and symbolic, but not merely for those most involved. If we want to express true remorse or indignation, then we will each be more honest and act to change ourself within our lives.

I send my Blessings to the moher and father who has lost a son, and to his wife and chidren who well be without a husband and a father, and to his brothers and sisters who no longer have their brother, and all those who loved him such a bad lose for greed. I dont no if he is married or have children,or brothers and sisters. but if he does my heart goes out to them.

What is amazing is where it happened and the type of people who committed this atrocity. The black community needs to look at itself. The days of claiming racism are over since our president is black. The community is overall a disgrace and needs to get itself to work so it can afford to spend a little more on goods. What an abomination.

This is WalMarts and all the other stores that set up this chaos.

They manipulate people by offering low prices with limited quantities. Sounds like Bait and Switch to me. It seems the most desparate and greedy people fall for the scheme.
