Obama's base of small donors was almost exactly the same percent as George W. Bush's in 2004 -- Obama had 26% and the great Republican satan 25%. Obviously, this is unacceptable to current popular thinking.

      Malcolm, (the author) is not a non partisan op-ed writer.
      The calculations are based through October, once Obama became the official nominee, the conventional money flowed precipitously.
      Previous to that the 50% figure was accurate. Not that it matters.
      Because raising 119 million from small donors is the number to consider. Bush didn't raise that much from all combined big donors.
