Every once in a while, something will appear in the night sky that will attract the attention of even those who normally don\'t bother looking up. It\'s likely to be that way on Monday evening, Dec. 1. A slender crescent moon, just 15-percent illuminated, will appear in very close proximity to the two brightest planets in our sky, Venus and Jupiter.

I saw a glimpse of it last night...tonight will be much better in that the moon will be closer to the planets.

Venus and Jupiter is shining very bright as of late.

Hope it clears out here in Georgia tonight so I can get a good picture.

We here in Southern Manitoba are missing out on this as well since it is cloudy with snow but we did see this a couple of days ago, well not the moon but the planets.

I took pictures last night. It was a beautiful sunset and I could see both planets heading towards the moon. Very southwest in the sky at dusk, about 4:30 - 5:00 pm.

It's especially beautiful up here in the Sierras where the air is crystal clear!

Look closely, and you may see the Mother Ship as it descends to pick up those of who have been chosen to.............

Does anyone know how I might get a photo of this event? I don't have a capable camera.

It might be here. They post unusual events and things that are currently happening in astronomy. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html It won't be there until tomorrow though because it hasn't happened yet.

I was driving home stuck in traffic on the 10 Freeway last night thru Palm Springs, CA and was complaining about the bumper to bumper traffic but had a chance to stare at this once in a lifetime event...It looked amazing! I can't wait to see it again tonight. Enjoy God's handiwork!!!

I can see it from where I am in Raleigh, NC. Its a very pretty site, but yet its sad that those three things are pretty much the only lights in the sky. During the summer a couple of years ago I went up to my friends country house during a meteor shower. It was away from all the light pollution and the site was breath taking. One of the most amazing things I've seen in mt life.
