    I would guess the recipient would have to shoot up on site, which would help curtail overdoses.

    Rapid detox is an option, but as you said, it is very expensive. Also, it fails to address the possible root causes of the attempt at self-medication in the first place. Many times there is depression, PTSD, and/or a history of abuse. A comprehensive program does not just deal with the addiction itself.

      You're right, but addicts that really have a desire to quit, and I assume many do, but can't because the physical withdraw is just so nasty, if they could get past that, they could have a real chance at total recovery, I imagine after physical detox, there are still many programs they can go to to work on their 'head' and won't have to over come the physical part while they are getting their head on straight.

        Oh, I totally agree. Until America really gets serious about addiction and mental health overall, this option will remain open only to those rich enough to afford it.
