The excitement and the hustle and bustle of people coming and going may create an unsafe environment for the pet, be it a puppy, kitten, lizard or goldfish. The child, especially a young child, may be too preoccupied with other gifts, visitors and the excitement of the day to be a proper caregiver, resulting in the new pet possibly not making it to the new year.
