Comments for Dreams may no longer be secret with Japan computer screen »

A Japanese research team has revealed it had created a technology that could eventually display on a computer screen what people have on their minds, such as dreams.Researchers at the ATR Computational Neuroscience Laboratories succeeded in processing and displaying images directly from the human brain, they said in a study unveiled ahead of publication in the US magazine Neuron.

    Hmmm.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Computers can barely process language translation issues. Processing dreams in any way seems unlikely.

If it produces images of brain activity, it can show what areas of the brain are being used. But it sounds like this technology can show how people are thinking more than what they are thinking--certainly not enough to visualize dreams on screen.

Oh yeah -- If it shows the areas of the brain being used that's great. But nothing new. They already do that with a few kinds of MRI tech. They've done extensive studies on the brain's functioning in Zen monastics.

From the story I don't think they are just looking at areas of the brain that show activity. They are actually intercepting the signals from the retina to the brain and translating it. This is pretty major. This isn't simple MRI images.

But if you're dreaming, are your retinas registering anything? I wouldn't think that the brains visual centers are processing in the retina, but in the visual centers and it doesn't make physiological sense to send those images 'back' to the retinas.

REM (Rapid eye movement). It is believed that people actually "see" their dreams.

Well I'll believe it when I see it also.
Seriously tho, can you just imagine??? that would be freaky as hell.....I can really vividly remember a lot of my dreams, but I can't imagine watching them on screen...that's creepy.

This would be awesome as long as I'm the only one controlling the on-off button, and I always get to preview before publishing. Well then again, life itself doesn't really offer those controls!!
