I can't imagine the state those people are in....all that isolation and torture. It is something which shouldn't be happening anywhere and especially under the direction of the USA.

If we could only get Bush,Cheney & Rumsfeld to those places for a couple months and experience what those prisoners have had to. Now there would be some justice!!! -

According to the story, that was one of the benchmarks that looking back in 2 years, would show some of the progress made.

He did not say he would take that long to close it.
However, someone above mentioned that it could be closed in a week. I don't think that's quite accurate. There are a lot of prisoners there who are likely to be dangerous on release (whether or not they were when they went in). A solution needs to be found that will grant them the trials they are entitled to, and give them a new chance at a decent life somewhere. Innocent or guilty, it would be irresponsible to just set them free and expect them to live productive lives after 5 years of imprisonment and possible torture and mistreatment. They may require counseling, they may deserve restitution, they may require new citizenships. These are not things that can be decided carte-blanche, but should be decided on a case-by-case basis. This process should start immediately and continue until finished, but it will not be instantaneous.

The treatment is unreal. Religiously correct meals, Korans, prayer time, clean facilities, clean clothes, etc. That is unhuman treatment and all they ever did was to saw off a few infidel heads or blow up a few busses. Oh the humanity.

Worry about terrorists and blow off the treatment of American working class. Keep creating an over-blown joke on the war on drugs and alcohol. Toss thousands of educated young kids in prison for minute drug possession or having a beer. Mandate the laws so a judge can't judge. Lump all and every offender to the offense no matter the circumstances. Stamp a felony to them and call the next case. County jails in this country make Guantanamo look like a country club with much better food. Prison in America has turned into nothing but a day care center. A very high number of good hard working people are being torn out of life losing all they have and little chance of getting back. Instead of contributions, now are liability to all. A person making $40k now costs $40k to keep locked up.

Listen to the liberal rant. Our soldiers just picked up people for no reason and stuck them there for the fun of it. Then they torture them every day and twice on Sunday. They are starved and brutalized all the time.

This is the perception of what you libs have been ranting about. What happened the last time some were released? They went to Iraq and part of them turned into suicide bombers killing a lot of innocent civilians. Others attacked our troops and were either killed or recaptured. Then you try to claim it was the treatment there for that. That is foolish since the concept of suicide bombing means that the Muslim wants to go to Paradise immediately without risking being judged for all of their actions.
So the reality of it is you libs just want to see the bloodshed with the returned combatants to the fight. Why do libs want to see such bloodshed??-

1) Presumption of guilt is a very dangerous legal philosophy to apply to anyone.
2) If some government grabbed you and held you in prison for years, and you were innocent, wouldn't you be tempted to join with the people fighting them?
3) Why are you criticizing others for ranting when you also rant on a regular basis?
