As a swimming official, I don't see much problem with designing suits for individual swimmers. But I think it might tend to reduce the number of swimmers than can step up to the elite level.

An aid to boyancy seems to me like it would be contrary to the ethic of competition.

Make them swim naked! That should spark more interest in the Olympics.

That's the way the Olympic games all used to be.

Makes sense, you can't hide performance enhancers if you're not wearing anything.

I couldn't compete swimming naked... Too much drag. LOL.

Don't worry, they'd make the water extra-cold for you!

These LAZR suits are apparently pretty readily available. My son's (division 2) team are supposed to be getting them for the Metro's final in February -- even the swimmers who have absolutely no chance to make national times.

I have been a swimming official for over 20 years. Polyurethane shouldn't be allowed. If the buoyancy device isn't a device but part of the suit then I'm gonna develop a suit with integral flippers. I don't have a problem with the shark skin suits though.
