Well Constantine decreed Christianity the official state religion of Rome and then in A.D. 326 he killed his wife by having her boiled alive in a bath and then killed his son too.
Pagans didn't give their religion to Christians willingly, they were threatened with death.
How many people were burned as witches again?

    You're making unwarranted assumptions. While it is true that the early Christians did place the celebration of Christmas on the Winter Solstice (which was Dec. 25th in the early part of the Christian era), The calender didn't stay in sync with the Solstice. The calender was corrected several hundred years ago to that the year would keep much closer pace with the actual revolution of the Earth around the Sun, but by the time that happened the Solstice no longer fell on the 25th.
    
    The solstice is still celebrated all over the world, including in these here United States. Sorry to disillusion you.

    Nobody threatened the Pagans since the fall of the Roman Empire?
    Many were simply categorized as witches heretics or even satanists and tortured or burned or drowned. Remember if a witch floats they are guilty, if they sink they are innocent....(of course with sinking they also drown!).
    Protestants actually made the Catholic inquisitions look like amateurs in terms of numbers of executions. According to "burning times" a PBS documentary as many as 9 million (mostly women) were executed for "witchcraft". English records officially record well over 300,000 burnings and well over 100,000 hangings.
    Germany, where anti Semite and totalitarian Luther dominated was far far worse.
    But have yourself a merry holiday whichever one or all that you like.
    But let us at least admit the reality of the origins, Xmas as you know it, did not exist until the Victorian age.

      Christianity is a cultural brainwash based on folklore and yes, Xmas as we know it didn't exist before the Victorian age.
      
      The killings were really a combination of disempowering females and land grabs by the church. Follow the wealth and power.

      No one knowsexactly how many witches, heretics, or sorcerers were tortured or burned at the stake by the pious, but the fear generated by the medieval and Spanish Inquisitions must have affected nearly all in Christendom. Being accused of being a witch was as good as being convicted. To deny it was to prove your guilt: Of course a witch will say she is not a witch and that she does not believe in witchcraft. Throw her in the river! If she sinks and drowns that will prove she is not a witch; if she swims, we will know the devil is assisting her. Pull her out and burn her to death, for the Church does not like bloodshed! In truth, the Church ran a Reign of Terror the superior in many ways to those of Stalin or Hitler. Their Terrors lasted only a few years and were restricted to limited territories; the Church's Terror lasted for several centuries and extended to all of Christendom.
      
      The Church's Terror, while aimed at both men and women, has left a legacy that it was aimed mainly at women.
