5 Myths About Torture and Truth »
Posted By tehranchik 11 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsSo the CIA did indeed torture Abu Zubaida, the first al-Qaeda terrorist suspect to have been waterboarded. So says John Kiriakou, the first former CIA employee directly involved in the questioning of "high-value" al-Qaeda detainees to speak out publicly. He minced no words last week in calling the CIA's " enhanced interrogation techniques" what they are.
But did they work? Torture's defenders, including the wannabe tough guys who write Fox's "24," insist that the rough stuff gets results. "It was like flipping a switch," said Kiriakou about Abu Zubaida's response to being waterboarded. But the al-Qaeda operative's confessions -- descriptions of fantastic plots from a man who intelligence analysts were convinced was mentally ill -- probably didn't give the CIA any actionable intelligence. Of course, we may never know the whole truth, since the CIA destroyed the videotapes of Abu Zubaida's interrogation. But here are some other myths that are bound to come up as the debate over torture rages on.

yes, lets stop any and all ways of getting info from terrorists.
Reply
That's how Bush has gotten info form them, that has stopped many
planned terror attacks in the USA since 9/11. So lets take all those tools away so the next planed terror attack on us will be a success!
I'm afraid the only way to get info from these maniacs is by TORTURE!
I VOTE TORTURE THEM, and save American lives. SHUT UP, TERRORISTS are not going to stop their torture of Americans, or stop beheading them, if we stop torturing the terrorists, that's just not going to happen and is a very ignorant way of thinking. -

What some people (4thchance) fail to understand is that when we began to behave like terrorists, they have succeeded in changing our nation for the worst.

Torture is not what a civilized nation uses to confront its alleged enemies; it is an act of barbarism and violates international law. In essence, torture is terrorism.

The single greatest German WWII interrogator was Hanns-Joachim Schraff. Know what his tactics were? Respect and kindness. This man was able to get actionable information from American prisoners better than anyone else.
Reply
"Schraff correctly realized that only a bare fraction of captured enemies would have information of immediate tactical use. And it is highly unlikely that one could extract that information in time to use it. So torturing an enemy to get the “whole story” would be a waste of time. Additionally it would run the risk of getting false information from the prisoner."
