Comments for Factcheck.Org Posts One Huge Year-end Whopper of a Lie »
Posted By pc25 1 year ago in NewsIt’s weirdly heartening to see Mr. Jackson (formerly of CNN) bring back the famously unbiased Factcheck.org from retirement to perpetuate more lies in guise of the presenting the truth.
(Note however that all of the errors he corrects just happen to be errors that put Democrats in a bad light.)
Indeed, Mr. Jackson’s presentation of the Pelosi plane flap is a mastery of spin. There may be no flat out lies, but the spirit of the thing is completely mendacious.
For it is a fact that a “larger plane” was requested for Nancy Pelosi by the House’s “Sergeant At Arms,” once Pelosi assumed the speakership.

it is also a fact that Ms. Pelosi’s chief counsel, Bernard Raimo, negotiated with the Department Of Defense for a larger plane — and for who could be allowed passage on it.
It was reported that Pelosi wanted room for her STAFF, plus FAMILY AND FRIENDS. Mr. Hastert’s rare trips had included himself and two aides.-

My fellow Christian Conservatives have no standing to stand in judgement of what is a lie. None whatsoever. It's completely disingenuous to do otherwise.
Or, as the story goes ... before you complain about the splinter in the eye of a Liberal ... please ... take the log out of your own eye.
The very foundation of belief for the right wing is a foundation of lies.
That is why my fellow Christian Conservatives are so addicted to listening to Rush Limbaugh.
Your upset with Pelosi about some accusation?
LOL!!!
It is to laugh.
The spokesperson for your Neo-Conservative Movement ... Rush Limbaugh has built a career out of lies ... and yet ... my fellow Christian Conservatives run to listen whenever he beckons ... he is ... the MESSIAH to y'all.
How fitting then that he is a liar.
For it is fitting that a Liar be the spokesperson for the Lie that is the Modern Republican Party.
Here, check out this link that explains the lies of Rush Limbaugh.
http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1895
And yet ... what is Rush Limbaugh .... .... .... he's a homosexual that condemns homosexuality ... he's a draft dodger that calls our American Soldiers PHONY .... .... ....he's condemnatory of drug addicts - and yet ... he's a drug addict .... .... .... he rants against the ACLU ... and yet ... he runs to them when he got in trouble with the law.
In short ... Rush Limbaugh is the very essence of a Liar ... and a Hypocrite .... and my fellow Christian Conservatives worship him as the Messiah of "Right-Speak".
He is representative of the Modern Republican in so many ways. After all ... the Modern Republican claims to be a:
Fiscal Conservative ... who spend like they are addicted to spending.
Friend of the Military ... who short change the veteran at every opportunity.
Friend of the Common Man ... who stabs the middle class in the back at every opportunity.
National Security Expert ... who didn't even know about 9/11
National Security Expert ... who is so incompetent, they can't even react to a Class 3 Hurricane.
It makes PERFECT sense that Rush Limbaugh is the Christian Conservative Messiah.
A proven Liar ... to promote the Proven Lie of Neo-Conservatism.-

Limbaugh, as dispicable as he may (or may not) be, is NOT on the taxpayer's dime. He is funded by his sponsors. Once he stops making money for his sponsors, he will be dropped like a hot potato, regardless of his views.
Speaker Pelosi, on the other hand, is fully funded by the taxpayers of this nation -- not even just those from San Francisco, but the entire US -- as is every other US Representative.
So, when Limbaugh demonstrates consipicuous consumption and appears to burn his money because of an apparent sense of entitlement, it is, perhaps, dispicable, but no sweat off me, because I am not in any way responsible for his funding. When Speaker Pelosi (or any other member of Congress, democrat or republican) demonstrates conspicuous consumption and appears to burn money because of an apparent sense of entitlement, it IS my concern because those are my tax dollars at work.
See the difference?-

Only those who agree with you have a "place in American society"?????
What happens when those who are deciding which ideas and opinions have a place in society and which do not decide that YOUR opinions are "completely biased" (whose aren't? duh!) and "has no place in American Society"?
And, even as a "patron of Newsmax which is supported by the RNC", he is STILL funded by private dollars, not tax dollars.
And, as an American citizen, he has the RIGHT to be biased and bigoted and outspoken and obnoxious.
So do you. -

I hesitate to get involved in an OLD story, but, most of you on both sides of the issue are missing some key points:
Reply
(1) Dennis Hastert used a SMALL Lear jet and usually travelled with 2 aides.
(2) Bill Livingood (House sarge-at-arms) made the request for a LARGER plane, one capable of transcontinental flight. Whether prompted by Pelosi's people is in dispute.
(3) Even if all of the allegations can be "explained" away, there is NO JUSTIFICATION for the C-40 (military version of the Boeing 737). There are MANY executive aircraft (including larger Lears, some Grummans, Falcons, and Hawkers) that are capable of transcontinental flight at much lower cost to the taxpayer. What? Do you people think our military personnel NEVER have to fly coast-to-coast? Puhleeeeze people, just think about it.
(4) So the only question of significance regarding Pelosi is: Did Pelosi request a plane big enough for "family and friends"? And I can find no evidence/testimony to support or refute that allegation. But, it is strange that no one has refuted it!!
Perhaps the criticism of Pelosi is deserved???-

I think a better question is, why should anyone accept the spin of a clearly biased source such as this one? pc and co are swift to shoot down anything from the NYT and dismiss it as "liberal media" bias so how on earth is this story significant at all? All one needs to do is look at the items on this story's page to know that it's biased to an extremely far right fringe extreme. Toilet paper. ;-(

Well ... you're not alone.
Very few on the Right believe in Jesus.
Well, they believe in a REBRANDED Jesus. This is a RE-INVENTED, bigot minded, war loving, Welfare for the Wealthy Jesus that the Right uses to bludgeon those with whom the Right does not agree.
The people the Right typically disagree with are ... people who believe in Peace, Acceptance, Aid to those in need, those who believe in Community ... that type of thing. You know, all the things that Jesus taught.
The REBRANDED Jesus of the Right live by the Golden Rule (Revised by Jerry Falwell and Newt Gingrich) ... I got mine, screw the nation ... I don't want to pay no taxes, screw the nation ... we need to find a country to invade ... put everyone in jail that don't share my (im)moral values.
But the absolute HIGHEST rule ... above even the Golden Rule that my fellow Christian Conservatives live by is ... the rule of 'Welfare for the Wealthy'.

But, y'all should really stop focusing on my comments. pc25's trying to promote his story.
What, do y'all have ADHD?

Hey guys ...here is a "Factcheck" .... McCain lost.... Obama won and is YOUR new leader. I can't believe the whining that has been coming out of a few of you and he hasn't even taken office yet. At least with Bush we waited until he started down his path of destruction. OK I know this is a post about Nancy and is probably the best you can find so far today.

Did anybody ever think that God allows us to make decisions instead of just whispering in our ear to vote republican or democrat? He died on the cross for all, not a particular political party. If memory serves me right when Jesus walked the earth Kings ruled not political parties. It really doesn't matter what Nancy requested we still have young men and women giving their lives and body parts for a war that we all know was pointed in the wrong direction. Before anyone get's too upset, I serve in the Navy and I have been in Iraq. Trust me, the media could show more but they don't and I am grateful that my child don't see what these Iraqi child see. If you really care about your country send a note of thanks to those fighting for our country or stop by your local VA and say thanks to those men and women whose lives are forever changed by this war. I promise that would be better served than finding dirty on the other party. Happy New Year!

Why not enlist or send their children to enlist if they believe so strongly in this mission? It's great that people can cheerlead while we borrow money to send the same people back over and over. Maybe they can give troops that have done mutliple tours a break so they can spend time with their families and see their children grow up. That doesn't seem like to much to ask of people who love to see others fighting wars for them. ;-(

So why when I attacked Factcheck.org when they were bashing or attacking a conservative I was attacked? Now because they're asking about Queen Nancy & her plane, they're a bunch of bums. The plane is a good question but this is very old news. This was discussed and rehashed many times. The Sgt. of Arms did request the new plane but after someone claimed they needed a longer range aircraft. I complained then that she should should fly commercial.

this is old news but it surfaced again recently because Pelosi criticized the BIG 3 CEOs for using their corporate jets to fly to Washington to ask for money. Factcheck obliged by putting their foot in their mouths again and spinning it all over.

But it still begs to question why she has a plane in the first place. I understand she's third in line to the big chair but that day will most likely never happen. I think if she wants to fly that way, she needs to pay for it. In a national emergency of course not but to go home weekly or bring her grand children along, no, she should foot the bill herself.

The "plane" that Pelosi "has" is a 12-seat Air Force jet, the SAME "plane" that her Republican predecessor, Hastert, used. The TAXPAYERS pay for all of it, whether such a "plane" is used by Democrats OR by Republicans.

Take a LONG look at ALL of the articles posted by FactCheck.org for ALL of 2008.
Reply
You will see PLENTY of articles that dispute claims and statements and ads by Democrats and especially by Obama when he became the Democratic nominee.
Unlike many of you supporting a 'commentary' on a FactCheck.org article, FactCheck.org IS objective. They POST all of their sources (which are much MORE credible than the URL for this posted article).
Your problem is that anything that does NOT support Republicans or does NOT criticize Democrats is "biased" in YOUR eyes ....-

What is not being told is that, as the Speaker of the House (and the third in line of presidential succession), and in the hyper-sensitive post-9/11 world, Speaker Pelosi is going to be given the security that she deserves. -

I have no problems with criticisms of Nancy Pelosi. If she's wasting resources unnecessarily, she should be criticized for it. But the article doesn't seem (to me) to be in line with the title for this story. A title more in line with the information that the article presents would be: Factcheckorg splits hairs over criticism of Nancy Pelosi.
Reply
As a democrat of the left-liberal persuasion, I frequently criticize fellow democrats too. I agree that Pelosi was a bad choice for speaker. Of course I imagine that pc25 and others would really have conniption fits if one of the dems I'd preferred had gotten the job. Heh, heh. -
