A Different Future- Jews, Muslims, and Christians for Peace »
Posted By truthiness 10 months, 4 weeks ago in Political NewsThe Israeli/ Palestinian conflict is a seminal conflict of our era. It is the contact point between cultural positions that have been in violent struggle for centuries. It provides an ongoing opportunity for extremist minorities both within and outside those two communities to have dangerous influence on local, regional and international politics...A Different Future helps moderate majorities reclaim the public idea space and regain control over the policy agenda that will determine our collective futures. ADF uses communications experts to amplify the voices of Israelis and Palestinians who work together.

The problem with your submission and this organization is that the "leaders" are exclusively americans. This organization has ZERO chance of contributing much to peace in Palestine - the US is now fully discredited as a force for peace in the mideast. We have gained this distinction by our slavish dedication to zionist goals, including such things like providing the jet fuel and bombs for commission of crimes against humanity in both Lebanon and Gaza in the last two years.
Reply
A bunch of go-gooders in America, no matter how admirable their goals, will only have credibility if they start by denouncing this kind of thing:
Top Israeli rabbis advocate genocide
Yesterday I wrote a piece entitled "Israel's House of Horrors" about the openly murderous statements of Israeli cabinet ministers. Just when I thought it couldn't get worse, I read a news article on the website of The Jerusalem Post that Israel's former Sephardic Chief Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu -- one of the most senior theocrats in the Jewish State "ruled that there was absolutely no moral prohibition against the indiscriminate killing of civilians ...
..The Jerusalem Post reported that Mordechai made this ruling in a letter to Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert citing biblical authority. The letter was published in a weekly journal distributed in synagogues throughout Israel. ..
...This kind of genocidal hatred of Palestinians is not unusual in Israel. What used to be unusual was for it to be spoken so brazenly and openly. Of course we know what would happen if a Muslim or Palestinian religious figure made such a statement. We know the international outcry when Iran's President Ahmadinejad made statements calling for the elimination of Israel. Will all those EU officials who curried favor by condemning Ahmedinejad take an equally strong and public stance against Israel's former chief rabbi? Will they demand that Olmert publicly repudiate the letter he received?
A Muslim making such statements about Jews would certainly be banished from traveling to the United States, and could end up in Guantanamo for much less.
Under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide adopted in the wake of the Nazi holocaust, "Direct and public incitement to commit genocide" is a punishable act. One wonders whether the UN Security Council, which created an international tribunal to investigate the killing of one man in Lebanon, will pay any attention to the indiscriminate state- and theocratically-sanctioned massacres of Palestinians by Israel....

A very distorted list truthiness, indeed it seems to be a list made up by zionists to deceive. For example, it includes this:
Reply
Zionism On the Web
Part of a network of Web sites established to give Israel and Zionism a fair break on the Web
which is a typical zionist propaganda site in the UK.
but excludes this:
Zochrot ["Remembering"]
Zochrot works to make the history of the Nakba accessible to the Israeli public so as to engage Jews and Palestinians in an open recounting of our painful common history. We hope that by bringing the Nakba into Hebrew, the language spoken by the Jewish majority in Israel, we can make a qualitative change in the political discourse of this region. Acknowledging the past is the first step in taking responsibility for its consequences. This must include equal rights for all the peoples of this land, including the right of Palestinians to return to their homes.
http://www.nakbainhebrew.org/index.php?lang=englis...
which is a site from real jewish peacemakers in Israel. -

The problem with this kind of "feel-good" study is that they never address the real issues and ask only pablum questions. Yes Israelis may say they want peace and cooperation, but as soon as they are asked what should be done about the 7 million christian and moslem refugees from zionist ethnic cleansing (the world's biggest refugee problem), those fine intentions go out the window. To see how polls about this situation mostly constitute propaganda, this is a useful article:
Reply
Who said Palestinians gave up the right of return?
.... Whatever the true numbers wanting to return, the refugees cannot be wished or polled away. Peace must be made with them, not against them, and that means offering them real choices that reflect their inalienable rights....

Bible:
Kill People Who Don't Listen to Priests
Anyone arrogant enough to reject the verdict of the judge or of the priest who represents the LORD your God must be put to death. Such evil must be purged from Israel. (Deuteronomy 17:12 NLT)
Death to Followers of Other Religions
Whoever sacrifices to any god, except the Lord alone, shall be doomed. (Exodus 22:19 NAB)
Kill Nonbelievers
They entered into a covenant to seek the Lord, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and soul; and everyone who would not seek the Lord, the God of Israel, was to be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. (2 Chronicles 15:12-13 NAB)
Kill Followers of Other Religions.
1) If your own full brother, or your son or daughter, or your beloved wife, or you intimate friend, entices you secretly to serve other gods, whom you and your fathers have not known, gods of any other nations, near at hand or far away, from one end of the earth to the other: do not yield to him or listen to him, nor look with pity upon him, to spare or shield him, but kill him. Your hand shall be the first raised to slay him; the rest of the people shall join in with you. You shall stone him to death, because he sought to lead you astray from the Lord, your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery. And all Israel, hearing of this, shall fear and never do such evil as this in your midst. (Deuteronomy 13:7-12 NAB)
2) Suppose a man or woman among you, in one of your towns that the LORD your God is giving you, has done evil in the sight of the LORD your God and has violated the covenant by serving other gods or by worshiping the sun, the moon, or any of the forces of heaven, which I have strictly forbidden. When you hear about it, investigate the matter thoroughly. If it is true that this detestable thing has been done in Israel, then that man or woman must be taken to the gates of the town and stoned to death. (Deuteronomy 17:2-5 NLT) -

it is not our nature to be hostile and cruel, it is our nurture. we teach each generation that the heroes of the past are all warriors and that the pivotal events of history are all wars. Is it any wonder that they look to violence for answers when they become adults?
Reply
if instead we were to teach our children that the great people of history were the peacemakers, and the artists, and the scientists and that the pivotal moments in history were the periods of art and technological innovation, while the warriors and wars were just the failures of weak minded men who resorted to violence when they could think of nothing else... what sort of adults would that produce?
I refuse to through my hands up in despair and say, "ah well, humanity is to weak and stupid to be anything but violent and cruel." nor is it some hippy fantasy to believe that we can work together for peace. it is possible for us to build something together.
it is the marshall plan, not MAD, that saved post war europe, and it is the lack of infrastructure and education that keeps resource rich africa in strife. the israelis have a stable govt because they have a nation which is well educated with a solid infrastructure, the palestinians have nothing, so they have no hope, so their govt is unstable, and their society is violent.. they have nothing to hang on to.
at first glance, it may seem I provided conflicting reasons for violence here, but in fact I listed multple contributing factors. nor is this list exhaustive. it is not simple,. nor is it easy.
but at least peace is worth striving for, as opposed to land or oil or power. -

Religion and Nationalism: A Dangerous Mix Throughout History
... It is past time for American Jews to make it clear to those who speak in their name that religion and nationalism must be separated, and that Judaism is a religion of universal values dedicated to God and not to the interests of any state, including Israel. Our American experience of religious freedom and separation of church and state should be instructive. Whenever religion and the interests of a sovereign state are mingled and confused, religion is the loser. And by placing a religious imprint upon policies which may be unjust and counterproductive, the state involved may be the loser as well. ...

You need to remember that the goal of Islam it to have Sharia law worldwide. That is the only acceptable solution for them. So what does that say about the rest of the world. Remember that Islam has a convert or die principle for those who are not "people of the book". Those who are people of the book have to accept a third class status and pay special taxes etc. That is a means of pushing them to convert.

That Hamas leader was guilty of breaking his own law if he had 5 wives at the time. They are only allowed 4 at any one time. -

We know what the arabs want to do.
In the ongoing genocide, African farmers and others in Darfur are being systematically displaced and murdered at the hands of the Janjaweed, a government-supported militia recruited from local Arab tribes. The genocide in Darfur has claimed 400,000 lives and displaced over 2,500,000 people. More than one hundred people continue to die each day; five thousand die every month.
Since February 2003, the Sudanese government in Khartoum and the government-sponsored Janjaweed militia have used rape, displacement, organized starvation, threats against aid workers and mass murder. Violence, disease, and displacement continue to kill thousands of innocent Darfurians every month.

Gaza: Israel, Hamas and the logic of colonial power
The international community is directly guilty for this latest massacre. Will it remain immune from the wrath of a desperate people? So far, there have been large demonstrations in Lebanon, Yemen, Jordan, Egypt, Syria and Iraq. The people of the Arab world will not forget. The Palestinians will not forget. "All that you have done to our people is registered in our notebooks," as the poet Mahmoud Darwish said.
...An American journal once asked me to contribute an essay to a discussion on whether terrorism or attacks against civilians could ever be justified. My answer was that an American journal should not be asking whether attacks on civilians can ever be justified. This is a question for the weak, for the Native Americans in the past, for the Jews in Nazi Germany, for the Palestinians today, to ask themselves.
Terrorism is a normative term and not a descriptive concept. An empty word that means everything and nothing, it is used to describe what the Other does, not what we do. The powerful – whether Israel, America, Russia or China – will always describe their victims' struggle as terrorism, but the destruction of Chechnya, the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, the slow slaughter of the remaining Palestinians, the American occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan – with the tens of thousands of civilians it has killed … these will never earn the title of terrorism, though civilians were the target and terrorising them was the purpose.
...Counterinsurgency, now popular again among in the Pentagon, is another way of saying the suppression of national liberation struggles. Terror and intimidation are as essential to it as is winning hearts and minds.-

I am always amazed that every time I post an article about peace, anything related to peace, there is always a an army of angry folk out to prove that peace is not possible. they point the finger at other folk and say, "see? they are terrible! they are the obstacle to peace!"
Reply
what you do not realize is that you are the obstacle to peace. every time you say peace is impossible, or let anger and hate overrule your better emotions, you help erect the barriers to peace.
no one is suggesting that the path to peace is easy or simple. clearly it is not. but given the choice between working together to form a peaceful world or violent world, why would you choose the path of violence and cruelty?
sure there are terrible foes in the world, and we must be able to protect ourselves, to survive, but that does not mean giving up on peace before the fight is over.
it begins with each of us. let the hate and anger go. every human of nationality has the right to live and love and be free. as do you. recognize that. there is never a time when a human loses these basic rights. there is never a time when it is acceptable to kill a man over politics or lines on a map. or the name he ascribes to an ethereal divinity.
all this stuff about ancient history, and labels, and whose grandad did what to whom is meaningless except as items of academic interest. today and tomorrow matter. if we want tomorrow to be better, than we need to forgive and accept each other today.
I know people are going to accuse me of sounding like some flowers and rainbows hippie, but what is so crazy about peace? isn't organizing to murder each other for the benefit of a few leaders far more insane?
peace is the only sane and stable plan for the future of our world. it is what every religion, philosophy and political plan claims to strive for, yet none succeed at. it is time for the hypocrisy to end. Peace Now.-

The problem you face is that Jesus said there will be wars and rumors until he comes again. History has proven that prophecy. What is required is for EVERY mans heart to be changed before peace can happen. Considering the religion of Islam and other groups that absolutely do not want to change there is no hope. Ghandi led a peaceful protest that spread throughout India and how long did that last? He was still alive when Pakistan split off with hate and bitterness.

I am not opposed to peace. I advocate peace that is consistent with the principles of American democracy. No "scheme" that proposes "more rights", "chosen status" or anything of the like for a subset of the total palestrinian population will bring peace.
Reply
Many jews understand that. Here for example is a link to Righteous Jews
http://www.righteousjews.org/
which in turn contains this site on the only viable solution: one state for all of the population of palestine with equal rights for all independent of race or religion. NO American should support anything less.
Movement for One Democratic Secular State
An Online One State Bibliography in English
The one state idea is an idea whose time has come. Despite the occasional rhetoric, the vast majority of Palestinians understand that the Israelis aren’t going anywhere. On the Israeli side – sharing many of the exact same fears faced by the Afrikaners in South Africa – this realization is coming about much more slowly, but it is starting to come about as well. Even the Rightist Yesha Council is now discussing various one state options that do not involve ethnic cleansing as an alternative to further territorial compromises.

In fact truthinhess, if you "smear" solutions based on the principles of American democracy (as you did), one might say that it is your prejudice and racism that prevents peace. -

Are you kidding? Nearly every post I have posted on this thread and others regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict condemns the violent, non-peaceful actions of BOTH sides of this conflict. I have repeated over and over that Christ's words were "Blessed are the peacemakers" and quoted from such books as Sider and Keefer's "A Peace Reader" based on Scripture and Catholic doctrine and Glen Stassen's "Just Peacemaking: Ten Practices for Abolishing War."
I have made it clear that I support neither the actions of Hamas, nor the actions of the IDF because their violent, circular actions perpetuate violence in the name of one ideology or another.
You want to solve the problems in the middle east? In Israel and Palestine? You put Israelis and Palestinians together, side by side, working together to rebuild the things they've destroyed. You put them together side by side to farm the same land with no particular group being the "overlord." You put them together in hospitals to be the doctors and nurses for BOTH Jews and Palestinians hurt in the war. You stop the demonization of one group or the other and stop making out like one group is spotlessly clean of wrongdoing while the other is not.
You put people together to understand the one basic truth that NO ONE on Propeller or in Israel or Palestine seem to remember: We are all, each and every one of us human and, at the core of things, exactly the same. That is the core teaching of Christ, the core understanding of the Communion of Saints, communion of the church on heaven and earth and the core teachings of pretty much every faith tradition. -

Since 9/11 I have been doing some investigating of Islam. I asked some of the Muslims on this board about their beliefs and was given the nice version about it. They made it seem that the terrorists were acting outside the religion. As I looked into the Quran and Hadith I found that they were lying to me. Then I found out about al taqiyya where they are obligated to lie for their religion. The more I read and discovered the angrier I became. I am past the anger but am tired of all the lies that Muslims perpetuate about their religion. It is a religion of war not peace.

And, christians, catholics, look down on hindus as well. Very convenient of these individuals to bring up the hindu muslim conflict on threads discussing problems between Israel/Palestine. The majority of christians and catholics can't tell the difference between hindus & muslims anyways.
