    War has not changed and innocents always die. I read a book by James Fenimore Cooper, an author in the 1800's. There was a poem that I don't know who to attribute to.

    With fire and sword the country round
    was vanquished far and wide
    And many a childing mother then
    and newborn infant died
    But things like this must be
    At every famous victory
