I guess it wasn't enough for Illinois narcissist Blago to cast a self-centric shadow over this historic inauguration, now Richardson faces circumstances that force him to withdraw his name from the process.
Democrats...they deserve themselves. What a pity we in the GOP have no representation in Washington to take advantage. All we have are honorable no-names and RINOs.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 2) (recursion depth : 1) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Yeah good point. Besides, before this whole Blago mess is over with Blago will have made up for at least 5 corrupt politicians. Now the US Senate is set for a showdown and the people of Illinois are aware of the need to dismantle the Chicago machine, and black politicians are well on the way to proving they are more politician than anything else. Relish the manner in which they all said in unison, "Any Blago nominee will be tainted," to the position of, after Burris was named, "Don't you whities try to lynch our man." Then to make sure you Crats have been sufficiently insulted, Burris himself says he won't raise race as an issue, but notes that others may notice there's not one single black in the US Senate.
There's your gratitude. A black nominee to the US Senate says the US Senate is racist because the American people elevated the lone black man to the White House.
Now I know what Democrats mean when they say they can't recognize any prominent black Republicans. Why would they? Ours don't pull that crap.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 4) (recursion depth : 3) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

--No offense but are you familiar with the concept of subject and verb agreement--at all? I have NO idea what that sentence is supposed to mean. Seriously...Please translate that. Thanks.

Thanks for the refresher course. I didn't realize Powell's party affiliation depended upon the extent to which Bush supporters feel he betrayed the party. In any event, you people sure can be literal-minded when you want to be. The point is that a disproportionate percentage of black America supports Democrats. Because there are relatively few black Republicans, it's a bit ridiculous to argue that fewer of them "pull that crap."

Well, there is Blackwell, but I am not sure he is the type of example a party would like to champion. I am surprised he still has some influence within the party, considering the job he did in Ohio.

Georgia, I know we're getting off the subject of Richardson, but since I've been back out to Propeller and read so many of the uninformed speculations about Burris's selection by the governor by those who have no knowledge of Chicago politics, I have to speak up.
Again, please do at least a little research before commenting about matters you and the talk radio hosts know nothing about. Check the archives of either the Chicago Tribune or the Chicago Sun-Times to learn about Roland Burris. (Go back 5, 10, even 20 years or so if you really want to learn.)
What you'll find is that Burris is far less interested in any kind of racial politics than he is in getting ahead by following the will of the old entrenched Chicago machine. Burris is 71--he has done absolutely nothing in his 30-year political career in Chicago to distinguish himself as having strong convictions of any kind. If allowed to take the Obama's place in the U.S. Senate, Burris will offer absolutely no original thoughts or ideas--he never has. Burris has gotten where he has entirely by towing the line of the Regular Chicago Democratic Organization (what we all call the "Machine," and an organization you may be surprised to discover includes less than half of those who consider themselves Democrats in Chicago). You'll also find that Burris is not supported by most African-American activists here.
Danny Davis, Bobby Rush and Jesse Jackson Jr. are all prominent African-American politicians here who would have been preferred by the black community to be named to Obama's Senate seat. (Go ahead, look them up as well.) It is clear to those who study Chicago politics that Blagojevich chose Burris in a last-ditch effort to save his own ass by cozying up to the Machine regulars he so frequently alienated--those are the ones holding the axe over Blagojevich's head right now.
Anticipating you'll say Obama has followed Burris's career path by towing the machine line, I urge you: do the same due diligence on Obama to see if he has disagreed with this organization. If you do, you'll find there is no smilarity between Obama and Burris, or between Obama and the "Chicago Machine."(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 5) (recursion depth : 4) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Thanks, Beau. I'm not all that up on the Chi-town machine. Along with your worthwhile observations, let me add that it strikes me as funny that Burris is being championed as the voice that Illinois will not have if someone is not there this week.
As opposed to Obama's absence from his duly elected position on the Senate floor for vote after vote after vote?
Along with the other Illinois Senator--Durbin--who's such a moron that morons will sue anyone who dares to note the crystal clear similarity?
When's the last time Illinois had a voice in the US Senate anyway?(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 6) (recursion depth : 5) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Just spit it out, Georgia. No doubt Beau will be happy to sort it for you.
In the meantime, I'm sure I don't need to remind you that YOUR presidential candidate missed even more votes in the Senate than Obama did during his campaign.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 7) (recursion depth : 6) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Burris is being championed by whom? I haven't heard anyone defending his appointment except for those with a vested interest--Daley, Blagojevich and the leaders of the state legislature, who are members of the same corrupt political establishment as those two. I've been away from the hometown news sources over the holidays, so please point me in the direction of statements by any others arguing in favor of Burris if you'd like to back up that point about him being "championed" as a voice for Illinois.
That said, it's true that leaving the seat open denies Illinois the same representation in the Senate given to all other states, and it is critical that someone be there during the critical first few months of Obama's presidency.
As for Durbin, I don't really understand your argument that his being "a moron" (could you specify how?) makes him similar to Roland Burris or any other Machine politician. Durbin is also not part of that crowd, btw.
He is, however, part of the Democratic leadership in the U.S. Senate, and as such is expected to take the party line. In that role, he delivers quite a bit of influence for the state of Illinois. I'd say that for the most part, he displays fine leadership and judgment, particularly in last summer's delivery of evidence of torture perpetrated by U.S. forces in Iraq--from an FBI report, no less. (I'd also argue that Sen. Paul Simon, who served two terms from 1984 to 1996, was a man of irrefutable integrity who arguably served as the conscience of the Senate. And he had quite a voice.)
And thank you, Progressive, for reminding Georgia that Obama voted more frequently than his opponent. I'd add that all candidates for president miss many votes--it's simply the only way one can campaign.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 7) (recursion depth : 6) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

You need to stay from making blanket statements like the ignorant one you just made! Not all blacks are backing Burris, just as all blacks did not back Barack Obama. You are just displaying your own prejudicial tendencies with your remarks.
Also, I suspect that your party is behind these "investigations" (which, so far, have done nothing but distract and detract from the greatest moment to occur in our political history). I fully expect the late, great Republican party to continue to self destruct with a bunch of petty witch hunting investigations in the same manner you all did during Clinton's administration. You fail to realize that this time will be different in that people are fed up with that foolishness and want to concentrate on the critical issues that are threatening to destroy the country as a whole.
When are you people going to wake up and smell the coffee? Do you prefer to keep strangling in your sleep??(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 5) (recursion depth : 4) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Ours don't pull that crap.>>>>
Are you an American or a republican? That's rhetorical. What a childish comment you made, especially in view of the numerous scandals republicans have been caught up in. Corruption is rife in politics, obviously. And obviously 'yours' pull as much "crap" as any other political party. Denying that doesn't serve your country well at all.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 5) (recursion depth : 4) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

ICAM, raats. Just mere months ago right wingers were swooning over Sarah Palin--the VP nominee McCain picked when she was ALREADY under investigation. How's that for arrogance? Worse, after it was determined by a bi-partisan panel that she ABUSED HER POWER, what did Palin do? She said "you're not the boss of me" and declared herself innocent? ROTFLMAO And cons circled the wagons even more. Un-freaking believable, huh?

What if that personal gain is merely satisfaction? It was a personal vendetta. Of course Palin's attorney is going to say that it has to be financial because that is the easiest for him to refute. And again, the Peronnel Board is an appointed political arm. They would say whatever she wanted them to. And you don't find the timing of it suspicious at all? Hmm.

Yep, you bet.
You say "At least a Democrat knows when he should get out"
Just like DEMOCRAT Blago is doing....Blago ain't budging, he's the guiltiest, caught red handed puke of them all and he's not bowing out. In fact, he's going to hang on as long as he can. When he does go down, they say he will take down many other democrats with him...This will be a really good show. Democrat heads rolling all over the place! I can't wait for the show to begin...
By The Way, if you want to keep up with the Blago drama, you will need to watch Fox News. Most the other news sources like CNN & MSLSD are doing their best to cover the Blago story up and or they are spinning the facts to make it sound as though the Blago thing is no big deal!
Just forget about it would ya!?(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 4) (recursion depth : 3) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply

Actually I think he's got a good chance of beating the whole thing. I'm not a fan. I think he sucks but he is still innocent until proven guilty. No prosecutor would charge a person and then ask for more time to gather evidence unless he had a very weak case. Something is wrong with the case.

Not at all. I know this is more politically motivated then actually criminally. The prosecutor on this is the same one from the Scooter Libby case. Lots of smoke very little fire. With all of the fluff, Libby was the only one charged? This is very much the same thing again. Enough info released to really make a Blogo look bad but not enough really for a full conviction. Same MO from before.
I do not like the Illinois Political Machine nor do I like Emperor Daley and his kingdom. I think they're all guilty and should be tossed out of office for graft and corruption. But in this case, until it either goes to trial or a plea deal is made, the man is innocent.
I do find one thing about this very interesting. You want to bestow more rights on the inmates of Gitmo then you are willing to give to a sitting governor. Very interesting.(comment_max_expanded_depth : 55) (comment depth : 8) (recursion depth : 7) (max_comment_reply_depth : 40) (comment_max_render_depth : 55)Reply
