Other then the fact that Hollywood is destroying our children's morals, desensitizing them, turning them into perverted sexual deviants and the fact that Hollywood is liberally insane, well, I have nothing else good to say about Hollywood!

Hollywood is like any industry. It is governed by the rules of supply and demand. In point of fact, it's CAPITALISM! Sure the actors and directors tend to be Liberal, but guess what? The BACKERS of the films and the OWNERS of the studios tend to be Conservatives! So don't come at me with this 'It's the fault of the Liberals' crapola.

Who put Hollywood in charge of childrens' morals in the first place? THE PARENTS! I take responsibility for what my children watch and I make the effort to find stuff that reflects my morals, yet is engaging. A lot of what Pixar puts out works well, as does the work of Hayao Miyizaki and Aardman Animation. The Harry Potter series and several of the recent super-hero movies have some good messages. I let my sons watch South Park and Family Guy, but make sure I watch with them to answer the inevitable questions that come up.

I believe the media has an effect on a lot of those who view it. Life can mimic fantasy if we let it. Fashion trends are prime example.... kids like to dress and talk like the favorite rock star. This is not new, it has been this way for many years. The problem is now that violence is a predominate theme in movies as well as the music, we are pushing a bad image to emulate in a lot of cases. What percentage of kids fall prey to this I don't know.

I raised my grandson, he had to do his homework and his job duties befor he could watch tv, his grades were good and he wasn't aloud to watch certain movies, after havin him from the age of 2 1/2 tell thirteen his dad wanted him back, now his grades are all failing and he gets to do what he wants. he just told me the other day he wants to come back home, I told him to think hard, because I dont want my heart broken again. but I had to let him go so he wouldnt end up hating me from keeping him from his dad. everyone said I was to strick on him,and he remembered the words that I told him, I only do this because I love you,if I didnt that would mean I didnt care. so he has not forgot.

I have done something similar to tell my kids that I (actually I have "meetings" with them and we make the rules together) have a job as their mommy. When either child tells me that "they don't love me" or " I am mean" when I don't let them do something they want, or when I say no more screen time, I ask them, what is my job? And they both know the answers! To love them, teach them, keep them safe! Right from wrong....if you as a parent know it, then it becomes easy to teach your kids, just talk to them ! And keep them involved in the decisions and family rules or mission statements! Good luck parenting!

Here in the Seattle area, the media is telling us that video games are actually good for our children. While most all our schools are dropping physical education for our kids. The local media does cover themselves when they spew this crap. They are also saying that kids need an hour a day of exercise, Wow, a whole hour! Liberals are behind all this. I guess they want our kinds to grow up to be big fat video addicts who couldn't fend for themselves even if they wanted to. This type of liberal preaching is going to ruin our kids health and lives. Liberals should be ashamed of themselves, very ashamed.

We don't have TV. It's a waste of money, 800 channels, nothing good on. If you don't have TV, it's even better because then you can control more of what your kids see and DON'T see. I've noticed some people actually think TV is also 'reality', and they are soooooo wrong. People believe what they see, and that's not always a good thing to do. Especially with the garbage Hollywood craps out every day of the year.

When i was a kid, we watched tv, westerns, shoot em ups, Popeye, etc.. There was voilence in those just the same as there is violence in today's television. The only difference i can see is that we UNDERSTOOD that it was acting, NOT REAL, cartoons, etc. Why do children have such a hard time telling the difference in fantasy and reality today?

I agree with you partly, but the westerns we watched as kids, IMO, didn't have the level of violence that todays prgrams/movies do. In our day, Matt Dillion shot them, there was a bullethole and a little blood. Now the violence is much more extreme and graphic.
As much as the violence concerns me, sexual content is just as harmful. I'm watching a dance contest on primetime right now.......it's all "that was so hot......she's so sexy, etc".
Sometimes even primetime shows have content that a young child shouldn't watch or hear,

The parents are responsible for the actions of the child until they turn 18. (That's our law in Canada.) It should not need to be a law and, in fact that is as far as it should go. The governments are taking way too many liberties by regulating and censoring everything. THIS IS THE PROBLEM.
Reply
Regardless of any law, the parents are responsible for teaching their children and being involved with their lives, games etc. If the parent feels is is bad for the kid - the parent takes it away. -

Thanks for such a well-researched article. I can personally vouch for the desensitizing aspect. I once saw a man shot and killed in the car ahead of me and remember thinking it was just like a movie. Not that my heart didn't start pounding, but it never hit me the way I thought it would.
