Perhaps it was a generalization, but (again, IN GENERAL) Americans, while governed by a system that ascribes to the separation of church and state, are more religious than Europeans, many of whom live in countries where the government still subsidizes religion.

I don't watch evangelical TV shows, or any other religion based programming, for that matter. However, as a secular humanist, I don't focus on non-belief in a deity, but rather on belief in humanity. I respect whatever any human being wishes to believe, though I reserve the right to reject their practicing their religion on me.
