Police in California are investigating as hate crimes the posting of anti-Israel and pro-Hamas placards at two synagogues. Similar posters were found on the same day at the nearby Reform Congregation Shir Ha-Ma'alot.

Please name the exact polls that you are using to show that 70% of the population the the USA to take a neutral position. I have yet to hear a single pole with figures even close to that, and everybody I know hasn't heard those statistics either. Please be specific. BTW, about 10% of the combined senate and house members are Jewish. 2% of the American population is Jewish. Where does the Jewish lobby get all of this power from? Especially if 70% of the population is neutral as you claim. Again, please give facts, not opinions.

We (and the world) did not accept an "aryan" state in Germany or a "white" state in South Africa. It is time to say that we will also NOT accept a "jewish" state in Palestine. In our community they have started to explain to the younger kids in school what happened to the Jewish people during the second World War, When they started this program to bring people in to talk to the kids a meeting was held to explain it to the parents. I knew that there was an anti Jewish feeling in my area and my grandfather was one of them but I don't think that I realized how widespread the feeling was until this meeting. I have two concerns when it comes to the conflict that is going on right now in Gaza, the first has to do with the loss of civilian life, the second and maybe the one we should be watching is the renewed assault that may be coming against the Jewish people from more than just Muslim fanatics. Today while in town I heard the first anti-Semetic comment in a puplic place for many, many years. I will not go into the blame game but this situation may lead to something much larger if it goes on much longer, even the National news tonight gave coverage that does not paint a pretty picture of what is happening in Gaza.

How long, one wonders, will it be before Israel's military actions lead to violent clashes in America?
If this occurs, Israel and its American supporters will have the insurance policy they desire above any other, one they are desperate to obtain before Israel takes harsh action – by forced deportation or other means – against its rapidly growing and radicalizing Arab population. Once the Arab-Israeli religious war has been brought into the United States and is producing blood in America's streets, the Israel-firsters will claim the carnage proves that secular America and theocratic Israel are in the same boat and facing the same enemies. Flogging this plausible but palpable lie, AIPAC-owned American leaders will consign this country to an unending war against Islam, the same catastrophe that is Israel's lot.

Great points! A lot of the hate crimes that does go on, whether in the states or in other countries, is absolutely America's fault. We basically do stupid **** like provide and drop bombs on countries (like Afghanistan, Palestine, Lebanon) and then drop bags of food for the people that are still alive, just to show that we are nice people. OF COURSE Hamas is to blame for retaliating with its usual lobbing of low-range missiles into a remote area, killing one elderly man. This is perfect justification for the "defensive" slaughter of hundreds over the past few days, not to mention the thousands over the past few years ...

Though I do not condone the the deaths of innocent children and people who are being killed in this mess in the middle east this all could be solve if Hamas would stop its terrorist attacks.Then Israel would have no reason to retaliate.Simple really.But since it continues to fight for the end of the state of Israel these horrible bombings probably will occur again and again.It protects its people surrounded by hostile states..What else can they do?

In recent times, the demand has been raised, by representatives of the State of Israel, and by its supporters abroad, to recognize the State of Israel’s “right to exist as a Jewish state”. I am told that this demand is a debater's trick that was invented by Henry Kissinger several years ago. Be that as it may, what, if anything, is wrong with this demand?
If the goal is a negotiated peace agreement, or treaty, there is no need for recognition of “the right of the State of Israel to exist as a Jewish state”. If the goal is to sabotage the possibility of a negotiated agreement, this demand has been placed front and center. A couple of other examples, just to illustrate the preposterous nature of the demand: Has anyone ever asked the Catholics of Ireland to recognize the right of Ulster, or Northern Ireland, to exist as a “Protestant state”? Would we recognize the right of any state to exist as a “Hindu state”? As a “Muslim state”? Just to pose the question is to expose its nature.
But, maybe we are not talking about “Jewish state” as a state affiliated to the Jewish religion. Maybe we are talking about a state that is defined by the dominant ethnicity. In that case, the position does not get any better.
...we have had our fill of states whose raison d'etre is to preserve ethnic superiority and domination. One does not have to refer to the late unlamented “Aryan state”. Perception is reality, and some people perceive that the zionist radicals are propelling this war against that arab nations, ie.. afghanistan, pakistan, Iraq.. And if that's true then anti-semitism really isn't immoral is it. Some people view the arabs to be terrorists, like the 9 passengers kicked off an airtran flightly recently. Where are the hate crime charges on their behalf? Where do we get off thinking we have the right to tell someone who they can and cannot like? Even in Sderot, Israelis Say No to Gaza Attack
It has been widely acknowledged that Israel began a public relations campaign soon after beginning their bombing campaign over Gaza. As usual, they have had plenty of help. One example of this was Alan Dershowitz's article "Israel, Hamas, and moral idiocy" which ran in the Christian Science Monitor on New Year's eve. In a tired tradition, Dershowitz tries to blame the Palestinians for making Israel kill them.
...I've been to Sderot: just over a year ago in November, 2007. ... I saw the devastating effects of the missiles from Gaza. Even though there had not been a death from these rockets in recent memory when I was there, I was not surprised to find that the missiles had inflicted an incredible mental wound on the residents. But I was surprised to find that although the people of Sderot who I met wanted the missiles to end they understood that militarism would not protect them. The people I met with were not calling for war, they were calling for negotiation. ... Even an IDF commander I met told me, off the record, "The Qassams [missiles] are like stones, there is no way to stop them. The only way is negotiation."
Even more amazing, residents of Sderot are organizing to try to end the attacks. Read the text of this petition signed by hundreds of Sderot's residents which has been posted at the website jews sans frontieres.
Clearly not all people in Sderot agree with these views, as has been shown. But it's also clear that Dershowitz and other proponents of the endless war will always use the people of Sderot as the cannon fodder they need in the moment. The residents of Sderot are primarily Mizrahi Jews, poor and working class, who have been settled on the periphery to play exactly this role. As much as Dershowitz might want to fight to the finish, those in the crossfire just want an end to the shooting.

What exactly is being defended by the violence in Gaza and Lebanon? Is it the citizens of Israel or the nature of the Israeli state? I suggest the latter. Israel's statehood is based on an unjust ideology which causes indignity and suffering for those who are classified as non-Jewish by either a religious or ethnic test. To hide this primordial immorality, Israel fosters an image of victimhood. Provoking violence, consciously or unconsciously, against which one must defend oneself is a key feature of the victim-mentality. By perpetuating such a tragic cycle, Israel is a terrorist state like no other.
Many who wish to hide the immorality of the Israeli state do so by restricting attention to the horrors of the post-1967 occupation and talking about a two-state solution, since endorsing a Palestinian state implicitly endorses the ideology behind a Jewish one.
The very creation of Israel required an act of terror. In 1948, most of the non-Jewish indigenous people were ethnically cleansed from the part of Palestine which became Israel. Indeed, many have been internally displaced, ostensibly for "security reasons", but really to acquire their lands for Jews.

I have a solution. An immediate cessation and peace. Give the Gaza back and allow the Palestinians and Israelis to freely flow back and forth unharmed and Israel and the World give Palestine the aid needed and monitor that the money is used for only rebuilding and humanitarian uses.
Both Palestine and Israel affirming the right to their neighbors to peacefully exist.
With the Israelis army posed on the boarder and after the first rocket is launched into Israel and or first suicide bombing or attack, Israel can unleash all her power to finish the job.
If Israel attacks without provocation the UN comes in and attacks Israel.-

Needs more than that slate. How about the 7 million refugees from zionist ethnic cleansing. No peace until their grievances are also addressed. The only real solution is a single state in all of Palestine with equal rights independent of race or religion. Israel has already made a Palestinian state inviable - and the world swallowed the propaganda about "generous offers".

...With Israel, it will be necessary to challenge some deeply held illusions about the peace process and why it broke down. Chief among these is the assertion that the Palestinians rejected a "generous" Israeli offer at Camp David two years ago. It is a view that spans the Israeli political spectrum, uniting the hard right with born-again rejectionists like Ehud Barak, confirming all in their belief that political dialogue has been exhausted and that Arafat is an inveterate terrorist. It is time for some constructive revisionism.
Barak's proposal for a Palestinian state based on 91% of the West Bank sounded substantive, but even the most cursory glance at the map revealed the bad faith inherent in it. It showed the West Bank carved into three chunks, surrounded by Israeli troops and settlers, without direct access to its own international borders.
The land-swap that was supposed to compensate the Palestinians for the loss of prime agricultural land in the West Bank merely added insult to injury. The only territory offered to Palestinian negotiators consisted of stretches of desert adjacent to the Gaza Strip that Israel currently uses for toxic waste dumping. The proposals on East Jerusalem were no better, permitting the Palestinians control of a few scattered fragments of what had been theirs before 1967.
Barak offered the trappings of Palestinian sovereignty while perpetuating the subjugation of the Palestinians. It is not difficult to see why they felt unable to accept. The only surprise is how widely the myth of the "generous offer" is now accepted.

In the 1920s and '30s, the leader of the Arabs in Jewish Palestine (pre-Independence Israel) was the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini. He came to power by organizing systematic murders of Jews starting in 1921. Establishing relations with the Nazi Party of Germany in 1933, he devised an alternative to Hitler's plan to rid Germany of Jews by sending them to Jewish Palestine.
At a meeting in Berlin with Hitler himself on Nov. 21, 1941, al-Husseini persuaded the Führer that such a plan would result in a powerful independent Jewish state, and that a far better solution would be a Final one: Kill all Jews, in the millions, at extermination centers set up in Europe.
Two months after this meeting, the Holocaust had begun. Al-Husseini was granted his wish. It was a Moslem Arab who originated the idea of the Holocaust. At the Nuremberg Trials, Eichmann's deputy Dieter Wisliceny (subsequently executed as a war criminal) testified:
The Mufti was one of the initiators of the systematic extermination of European Jewry and had been a collaborator and adviser of Eichmann and Himmler in the execution of this plan. ... He was one of Eichmann's best friends and had constantly incited him to accelerate the extermination measures. I heard him say, accompanied by Eichmann, he had visited incognito the gas chamber of Auschwitz.
Nevertheless, al-Husseini was never tried at Nuremberg, and was allowed to return to the Middle East. He spent the rest of his life organizing terror attacks – now with the help of the Soviets via a KGB agent named Yevgeni Primakov – against the Jews of Israel.
