Well, if we taught our kids MORALS then we would not have a problem of this magnitude.
When our kids have $luts like Britney Spears as their idols, then what do we expect from our kids, $LUTS! Gee Mom, is it ok if I wear a short dress to school with no underwear on? Is it OK if I spread my legs and show all the boys what I got? If it's good enough for Brittney, then I want to do that kind of stuff too! I want to be just like Britney Spears!

You mean like Gov. Palin taught her daughter morals?

Maybe you should read the study about children who make moral virginity pledges. Turns out they're no more or LESS likely to engage in sex. BUT it does turn out that they're MUCH less likely to use protection.

Red herring alert. Red herring alert. Red herring alert. Red herring alert.

Why don't you read that study. What you are saying is absolutely false. The study showed that among a group of devout religious people those making the pledge verses those who don't they both have the same lower amount of premarital sex. In other words the extra words to those who were very religious made no difference. They already had that belief.

Yes, but those who were taught abstinence-only had a higher rate of STDs and unintended pregnancies when they did become sexually active.

So how do you stop the STD's and pregnancies??? They only have a somewhat higher rate. Condoms fail and some STD's go right through them. What is your solution since there is absolutely no such thing as safe sex?

I hardly think it's a red herring attack. The point is that Palin makes claims of moral conduct yet her daughter goes out and doesn't show restraint. The point is that the lack of religion has nothing to do with sexual misconduct among teenagers and any claim it's the cause is from lack of religion is unfounded. Believe me when I tell you that the preacher's daughters were the biggest ***** in the neighborhood where I grew up. Why I don't know but it wasn't from the lack of religion.
Of course the observations I've had among the religious tends to have me believe that homosexuality runs high within religion. You know how many altar boys have been abused?

The red herring is the one who did the study tried to promote. What the study proved and the words around it were two different things. All it proved that among a group of devout religious people the pledge made no difference. The words around it ignored the fact that the study group was made up of devout religious people. That fact was in the background. There but you had to dig for it.

I think this can be a problem from most walks of life. Parents busy, the kids get busy too. That being said, the family has come together and seems to be doing the right thing. I live in Milwaukee, this isn't the case for many of our unwed underage girls. Mom might let them stay at home, as long as they get the FDIC check. They've made in a business here. More kids, more welfare, food stamps and FDIC. We have 5 or 6 generations living this way. Palin had nothing to do with this. This was created by the likes of Johnson and his "Great Society" and other liberal save the world ideas.

Good luck to young men who wish to merry a virgin...those days are long gone.
There's probably a few virgins still around, but their still virgins because, well I doubt you need me to paint a picture of why they are still virgins!

4thchance good luck to young women who want a virgin as well.....unless it's not important to you for males to be virgins..........and my guess is, there's more females that are virgins then males.

what I got from the story was, they are talking about ********.

The truth is that we have violated the Word of God.

We have all broken God's Laws.

If you obey Gods laws you will not have girls getting pregnant or both getting STD's. Condom failure rates in normal use are 1 in 15 according to Consumer Reports. Some STD's go through the condom wall.

Same old misinformation. Ironic, since both the issue you bring up are related to a lack of education. The failure rate in the CR study was using an air-burst test, not 'in-the-field' research or surveys. The 1 in 15 figure was for the worst performing brand (Trojan, if I recall correctly). Real-world condom failure rates are far lower (around 3%) and are primarily due to improper use (leaving air in the tip, not using lubrication or using the wrong lubrication, using expired products, improper storage, applying the condom after pre-ejaculate has issued, etc.).

Also, only lambskin condoms have the micropores that allow passage of certain STDs, latex or polyurethane condoms do not.

Ah yes, the sexist claptrap that lead to the sexual revolution in the first place: Women are expected to remain virginal and anyone who doesn't is a '****'. Men? Well, 'boys will be boys', or even worse, 'they're sowing their wild oats before settling down'.

I have a very close and beautiful friend who remained a virgin until her wedding night... well, technically. I know she engaged in some sexual activity with her partner before then, just no intercourse. But she was one of 6 of us at a Catholic school who remained thus. This from a group that was one of the purest in our high school.

Your comment, btw, reeks of sexism. What about young women who want to marry virgins? Shouldn't that be the same ideal in a world of abstinence until marriage? Or is it just women who are supposed to abstain?

Interesting this article had to include 18- and 19-year-olds to get to their 'alarming statistics'. Sorry, but if one is old enough to kill and die in a war, I don't think one really qualifies as a 'teen' anymore.

And the question is: Are more teens engaging in pre-marital sex? Or are more just willing to admit it?

That's the problem with these sorts of surveys. It's not like pre-marital sex is something new. I do get the sense overall that kids are more open to talking about it--that sex is not something 'dirty' to be hidden away.

I don't. I find it very sad. If a child feels this is what they're supposed to do, there are problems. Either the child is looking for the community or feeling of family that their family isn't providing or some other issues. Being loved or needing protection or inclusion. I'm not a counselor but I do work with youth. So many problems are reduced in 2 parent families, it's amazing. Increase the success rates when mom & dad take an active role in the raising of the children. Replace daddy with a check and you start to have major problems.
