The "sock puppets" arise because we no longer fund universities sufficiently, because we have let universities become controlled by corporations through "donations" and because we let dubious "foundations" corrupt congress. This hits all aspects of our public life and legislation.

For example, it is now very difficult to find independent experts in fields such as biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, agrobusiness, etc. They all have contracts with corporations pleading for congress to give them money. -

oh, this makes sense now. Some guy on a newspaper comment section kept accusing me of being a sock puppet because I claimed to be a pro-life conservative Republican who also happens to think that the War on Drugs should be stopped and that marijuana being made legal for medical consumption is a good thing. He kept saying I was just a sock puppet and that no true conservative could also be pro-pot. I thought the he was just a little loopy with all the "you're just a sock-puppet" talk.
