"Too bad the general manager wasn't an armed concealed carry permitholder"
Reply
Yeah! It's always TOO BAD when there aren't more idiots with guns involved in a shoot out!
Like in Portland, OR recently there was someone with a CCW permit working in a store. He was robbed and shot at the robbers. He wounded one (which the police said was rare)! Great!
He also shot multiple rounds into the house across the street, barely missing a 2 year old child and her parents.
Other rounds flew into other houses around the area.
People with CCW permits are GREAT! GREAT ! GREAT ! for public safety.

Really. Played this "left behind" video game? From Wikipedia -
Reply
The video game Left Behind: Eternal Forces was developed by a publicly traded company, Left Behind Games. The game is a real-time strategy game where the player controls a 'Tribulation Forces' team and allows the player to "use the power of prayer to strengthen your troops in combat and wield modern military weaponry throughout the game world." The game was released in the United States on November 14, 2006 and received mixed reviews. Distribution was initially planned to work through churches and megachurches.
The game has drawn criticism from some quarters (notably the renowned anti-violent videogame campaigner, Jack Thompson[who?]) for giving the player the choice of who to play as (Trib Force or Global Community).
The game has also drawn criticism that it allegedly encourages religious violence[1], though not all reviewers of the game or critics of the Left Behind series shared that view.[30][31] [32] [33] Representatives of the company have responded that the game's message is pacifist because shooting nonbelievers instead of converting them costs the player "spirit points", which can be recovered by pausing to pray.

Sad to see this happen. A deranged man. It certainly does not represent any normal version of Christianity which I have ever heard of. There is no real justification of this in the Bible as far as I can tell. Oddly, the only people I have ever heard who would suggest that Christianity supports this sort of behavior would be anti-Christians (for lack of a better word). ie, those who like to bash Christianity. Only those people, in the modern world, suggest that Christians should kill others for religious reasons... I hadn't thought of that before, but it is certainly an interesting philosophical question. Do non-Christians promote "old testament" behavior in Christians?

Sorry for another post, but I was just thinking about 2 things:
Reply
1. The article does not say he was a Christian...
2. What did he mean by "If you're not a Christian you're going to die"? Was the person he shot not a Christian? What about the neighbor mentioned that he was looking for? Neither is mentioned in the article. Was it a general statement from a nut-job? ie, unrelated to anything in reality and just rambling? I don't know, but a possible interpretation as well.
Both of these are certainly possible, but it is not said here. -

Clearly this man is a whack-job who would likely have found some other reason for going on a rampage.

You spoke of promoting 'old testament' behavior? I think you misunderstand the tactic of pointing out hypocrisy. For example, some folks against gay marriage point to OT verses to support their case, yet when asked why they do not follow ALL of the laws laid out in the OT, they change the subject. It's not that the person using this argument WANTS Christians to run around and stone disobedient children to death, it's that they want them to realize they are making 'Will of God' determinations based on their own personal preferences.

Neo, why would this article catch your interest? It's just another day in the land of "God, Guns, and Guts". Here in the good old USA, a stranger knocking on your door, strapped with guns and knives, raises no particular suspicion. I'll bet if that happened in Canada, someone would have called a cop, and the cop would have been well armed, no doubt.
Reply
Here, we don't trust our cops, our government, or our neighbors, so we have to be well armed, just in case...
That's not the majority opinion. But there certainly seems to be a strain of deadly paranoia combined with readily available killing power, on the loose.
I wouldn't attribute this onslaught to religious training per say. Not the final solution part anyway. Vestiges of Puritanism, in the form of sexual repression, social inequality, politics from the pulpit, combined with modern realities, like absentee parenting, and ignorance with a gun, create a deadly combination. This person was sick, and a few months with the "Manson Family" would have produced an even more organized and deadly result.
We live in a world where some might feel they have no control over the events that surround them. Rather than seek help (not the American way), some lash out with the only power they feel they can exercise. The power to take lives.
It's a power that can be purchased, and the only restriction is how much do you want to spend? It's all part of the ambiguous 2nd Amendment. Though I dare say not part of "A Well Regulated Militia". -

This person was an absolute nut job. His actions are not one of a Christian. Christians are to follow the words and actions of Jesus. How does what he did go along with the sermon on the mount?

"You have heard that the ancients were told, "You shall not commit murder" and "Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court."
But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, "You good-for-nothing," shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, "You fool," shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell."
"You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth."
But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.
If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.
Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you."
"You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy."
But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?
Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect."
With the above in mind does that man seem like a Christian who is trying to do the will of Jesus?-

You judged a member earlier on the thread, now say the person in the article (who has probably found religion again in Jail, asked for and received forgiveness for his sins from his pastor and is going to heaven because "He confessed his sins") isn't a Christian, and start paraphrasing scripture, how true Christians turn the other cheek, then bring up love thy enemies, etc, when you've done non of that to any liberal (including myself) who disagrees with you, or a fellow Christian who points out you double standards.

Religion breeds these kinds of people. When was the last time an atheist shot up some place and declared that if people were religious they would die. Religion breeds evil. All we have to do is look at past history, the crusades, the inquisition, Hitler (who was a model Christian), islamofascism, etc., etc., etc., etc.,
