So what about the children with anxiety, schizophrenia, ADD, depression, obsessive disorders etc. It seems autism has become the popular diagnosis of the day.

            Yvonniee,
How is that possibe? These are all separate diagnosis? If that is the case that is a real problem. It seems autism has gained popularity and is more acceptable by society as a legitimate condition. There are more services and educational resources for children with autism so it is understandable why a parent is more willing to accept an autism diagnosiis. If all these other illnesses are considered autism all children will suffer. Children who really have autism will be placed with children who don't have it and their treatment and education will be defined by what happens to those who don't have autism. It is a great injustice to promote the idea that autism can be cured. Those parents who claim their child was cured of autism didn't have autism to begin with. Theie child most likley had some other condition that was curable. I feel great sorrow for parents who have children with real autism who have to listen to the false claims that another child was cured of their autism.

Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD) have been thrown into the Autism pot, with Classic Autism disorder leading the spectrum. You're right, because making it a catchall leaves the classically Autistic child at a disadvantage. It isn't possible to measure their success by a treatment model designed for a child with ADD, or anxiety, etc. They require a treatment model of their own, as well as highly skilled practitioners. I can see them falling through the cracks, because their syndrome is extremely difficult to work with.
