Blago/Obama-Depends on how you define “contact”; Update: Blago newsletter photo included »
Posted By pc25 11 months, 2 weeks ago in NewsBarack Obama has gone out of his way to make his incoming administration Clintonesque. Not only has he built 63% of his transition team from Clinton administration officials, he even picked Hillary Clinton for a Cabinet post. Now Obama appears to have restored another Clinton tradition — in word parsing.

Does this mean that they discussed the Senate succession? As I wrote above, not necessarily, and it’s worth pointing out that the photo itself is undated. Neither, though, does it mean that they didn’t discuss it, either before or after the election, or both.
If you follow the link to Blago's newsletter referencing the Blago/Obama you will find not surprisingly that the page has been scrubbed. Somewhat suspicious especially after the recent scrubbing of Chicago's KHQA reporting of a similar story on their web site
http://wellsy.wordpress.com/2008/12/10/chicago-tv-...
This begs the question who and for what reason are these stories that were once information available to the public being removed.
Is it Blago hoping to use this information as a bargaining chip with the FEDS, is it Fitzgerald whose handling of this investigation is being described as clumsy trying to control what information is available to the public, or is it Obama's transition teaming in an attempt to do damage control assuring the Blagojevich camp get rid of this stuff and we can help you later.-

Hey, did you see that the Illinois House voted overwhelmingly today (09JAN09) to impeach Gov. Rod Blagojevich?
If he decides to fight it no telling what might come out in the proceedings... -

Here we have a coterie of Classic America Haters.
Reply
How do I measure such a statement?
Before a president is even sworn in, y'all are salivating at the prospect of scandal. But, I've come to expect this from the Modern Republican - who cares far more about their adopted ideology than our nation.
When Bush 2 was president, nearly ALL Americans rallied around him ... even if some did suspect there wasn't much .. 'there' .. there.
When our nation was attacked --- ALL Americans voted confidence and support for him.
The Modern Republican is not capable of this kind of patriotism. They want blood. And that's all they will settle for. And if they don't get blood, they whine and complain that someone is protecting their enemy ... be it media or some outside force.
The funny thing is ... they DOMINATE media ... from Rush Limbaugh to the Washington Times. In fact, it was The Washington Times that led the charge against Clinton in 92. Just think, a newspaper founded by a Korean Cult Founder ... Rev. Sun Myung Moon.
NOW do y'all see how people view you as America Haters? Y'all are willing to rally behind a rabid right wing freak ... who's not even an American ... a CULTIST who abducted thousands of America's youth ... rather than support an elected President!
One might say, this little clutch here was never more happy than the 8 years of scandal y'all were able to stir up during the Clinton Administration.
--------------
Rather cynical, eh?
--------------
But it was one thing for the Right Wing Extremists to make a putsch for power in 1992 ... disgusted at the fact that a Democrat was elected. Back then ... the Vindictive Modern Republicans could SHUT DOWN Government ... imperiling from outside threats ... in a petty tiff with Clinton ... and our nation could still feel safe.
Should the Modern Republicans try that today, there are no shortage of enemies who could try to take advantage.
But do these members care? Members like pc25, ellsworth-thoohey, RedRiverJ, Klarissa, CactusAnnie, GLee, Albmore, dandt1612, icono-the-Russian, nostalgia, normallysilent ... and others?
The answer is a resounding NO!
They only care that America be dragged through every insult, that America be weakened ... and if THEY can be part of weakening America ... so much the better ... they feel somehow vindicated.
...
Now, I know what some of you will say ... that you are only hating Obama the way people on the Left hated Bush.
But the facts simply belie this. As I've mentioned ... after 9/11, Bush had astoundingly high Approval Ratings.
Any subsequent drop was due to one thing, and one thing only ... his incompetence, his politicization of various Government Agencies, and his theories that Government should 'stay out of the way of business and let business do anything it wants because business ALWAYS knows best'. ... ... ... And of course, anyone could have expected the natural outflow of such a theory.
So rub your hands together at the mere THOUGHT that Obama might be touched by scandal.
MOST Americans are willing to give him a chance at leading our country out of the morass that the Right has created.

My personal opinion is that there's something wrong with the Modern Republican.
Reply
I have my theories.
For instance, the Constant Propagandizing by the numerous Dis-Informationists ... such as Rush Limbaugh ... and the hundreds of others .. that y'all listen to as if these people were the Messiah.
Maybe that has short-circuited your ability to make rational connections.
Maybe it's the ethical compromises y'all have had to make to embrace the Modern Republican Platform of Neo-Conservatism ... an Ideology that is so far removed from traditional American values ... it must surely have twisted your perceptions ... and your values.
But what I am most distressed about is the road to weakness that Republicans have travelled over the past 20 years or more.
Republicans used to be stalwart defenders of America ... and of the Constitution.
Today ... they are so disinterested in America ... they are willing to roll-over at the slightest threat.
All The Modern Republican stands for is their Cynical Ideology.
They have become weak, one might even say ... cowardly.
A Neo-Conservative President says: ... "America believes in TORTURE ... sure ... we used to laugh and disparage OTHER nations who did this ... believing ourselves superior ... but NOW ... we believe in TORTURE."
The Modern Republican ... (being ethically worn down by Right Wing Media) ... says: "Okay ... this goes against everything America has ever stood for ... but our Ideological Messiah says TORTURE is now fine ... so .... we are happy to now believe that America stands for TORTURE."
See how easily the Modern Republicans Give Up on America?
And this has happened time and time again over the past 7 to 8 years.
The Modern Republican is simply too cowed to stand up for America any longer. They have simply been too weakened.
It's an American Tragedy.

I really don't understand this whole thing. There is nothing wrong with Obama talking with the governor about Obama's replacement. In fact if they didn't discuss it, it would be really weird.
Reply
What I don't understand, is why LIE about something that wasn't wrong to begin with?-

The in-coming administration runs on the policy of 'appearance is everything', i.e., if it looks good, then it is good and if it looks bad, then it is bad. So 0Bama has to appear to be either above it all or 'completely' ignorant of the situation. In this case a hard sell.
Reply
For in reality 0Bama probably did talk to Blaggo about Balggo's picks to take his place.
Now, if that is true, and I see no reason as to why it wouldn't be, the problem for the 0Bama team is to 'sanitize' the meeting to the point that the meeting was no more than a brief encounter between two politicians that may or may not have mutual interests to discuss.
For the meeting to be sanitized and therefore easy for the public to follow and buy into, there has to be an 'understanding' between Group Blaggo and Team 0Bama about what was talked about and that any hint of 'pay to play' will be turned into innocuous political rhetoric about Illinois politics.
Also, the 'understanding' will contain promises of help to Group Blaggo once the dust settles and this little flap has died down. But for this to work for both camps, 0Bama has to have the 'appearance of innocence' about the whole situation and that means Blaggo has to take the fall all by himself. -

I don't see a problem with Obama talking to Blag either, it was his seat they were talking about.
Reply
I think this story is more about Obama claiming he had zero contact with Blag about the topic and there is proff he may have fibbed about that.
Obama should have said yeah we talked but never about pay to play. It would have been over weeks ago. Doing the usual that most politicians do and flat out deny things that can possibly be proven otherwise gets them into these situations.
I would have thought Obama was smarter than this after watching the last administration.

Why did you never voice concern over the Right Wing Born Again Messiah ... George W. Bush's appointments?
Reply
I mean, Michael Brown for FEMA?
Peter Goss for CIA?
Michael Chrichton to represent the Bush Administration on Global Warming?
John Snow .. a famed tax dodger ... named Secretary of Treasury?
Cynical Judgeship appointments such as Charles Pickering, William Pryor, and Harriet Myers?
What astounds me is the tone of glee y'all have for a hint of potential for opportunity to jump for joy at any misstep ... without any concern that these missteps could exacerbate problems for ALL Americans.
Of course, being Ideologues FIRST and Americans SECOND ... or third ... or fourth ... I realize this makes no difference for you.
Y'all are simply too happy to roll over and give our nation over to trouble.
This is how insipidly weak willed the Modern Right has become.
.
Sad.

Blago gave a bizarre press conference this afternoon after the impeachment results were announced. His defense is that the legislature is out to get him because of all he did for health care reform. Even had people (who had that deer in the headlight look) there as testimonials to what he had personally done to help them with their medical needs.

Apparently Senate Democrats aren't listening to Obama.
Reply
"Obama had spoken to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Monday on the need to find a quick solution to defuse the dispute, according to Democratic officials. Reid was told by Obama that if Burris had the legal standing to be seated — despite controversy surrounding his appointment by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich — it should be done "sooner rather than later," said an Obama transition aide, speaking on condition of anonymity because the conversation was private."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/senate_burris
In other words - Obama to Reid: Make this go away
Is this what prompted the comments Reid made in an interview with The Hill?
In an interview with The Hill, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said he would not roll over for the new president the way Republicans did for Bush.
Reid stated, "I don't believe in the executive power trumping everything... I believe in our Constitution, three separate but equal branches of government."
"If Obama steps over the bounds, I will tell him. ... I do not work for Barack Obama. I work with him," he said.

Pick up the Jerome Corsi book (Obamanation) on disk. I saw it discounted at B this week, probably because the election is over. Barry has a history of air-brushing himself out of the picture whenever someone he's known gets dirty.
Reply
You don't know Obama until you know Ayers, Wright, Resco, Dorn, Alinski,...
But he's here to stay. Allan Durshowitz (Sp?) wrote a book that demonstrated how Bush stole the election and nothing was done about it. It's time to bend with the wind. Santa is comming to town. Those of us who get jobs in government will be positioned to thrive in the new America. Those who stay in the private sector are doomed to be tax farmed or become stuck in the public assistance-surfdom trap.

Personally, I haven't been all that upset with Obama's cabinet appointments considering what might have been the alternatives.

BUT, Obama won on the Change and Hope ticket. I NEVER knew what he meant by change, what would change and how he would implement it, and still don't have a clue. Other than a change in administration from one to someone else, what change do you see him bringing, or at least, hoping he will bring to the presidency, Fiftynine? -

what if Obama has a connection with Blogo, say a corrupt Chicago political type connection. Is not the allegation serious enough to warrant and investigation. What if we fond Obama took campaign monies from groups looking to further their agenda by Blogo's pick. A serious as this would be do you think the media would cover it, and do you the left would care. Frankly Burris has more credentials to be president then Obama perhaps they should swap.
