What McKenna says in the quote you gave is absolutely true, though I have to add that he's known as quite the rabid partisan. But after all, he is the state Republican party chairman. I'm not exactly sure how the state legislature could have stripped appointment power legally from the governor without a (state) Constitutional amendment. But I'm disappointed they waited so long, giving him a chance to make an appointment to the Senate, before impeaching him. There was talk of impeachment or other maneuvering to remove him from office when the scandal first broke.

Blagojevich knows where many of the "bodies are buried," though I'd guess that even as the holder of the highest state office, he's still not the one who knows all...Michael Madigan, majority leader of the House (and father of the state's Attorney General) would be that one.

It may surprise you, but I'd be very pleased to see all the skeletons come out during a trial. I know many would try to link the President-elect to the scandal, but I believe he'd come out clean. Meanwhile, corruption in both parties in state government is rampant, and I'd like to see at least some of it cleaned up for a change. Unfortunately, much of what would appear to be illegal (and is certainly unethical) in most areas of the country is legal in Illinois. For instance, candidates for public office are usually allowed to convert unused campaign funds to personal use after an election.
