Comments for Propeller Week In Review: January 9, 2009 »

Posted By JamesMarcus 11 months ago in News

Obama's choice of Leon Panetta to head up the CIA elicited a noisy, sometimes amusing conversation this week. But there were also extensive threads about Israel's invasion of Gaza and the plight (or not) of the polar bears.

Of course she's there! And I agree, Tim, a week without Palin would be like a week without...
      something or other..
But mesodude nailed her, metaphorically speaking, with a comment that I missed and would vote James's best pick of the week for inclusion in his reprise:
"You people elected Bush and Cheney twice and you were all set to replace them with an ancient, unstable coot with anger management issues and a chesty, illiterate, trigger-happy beauty pageant runner up who hasn't read the Constitution."
She probably HAS read the Constitution by now - or at least the talking points on flashcards and been checked thoroughly [thou shalt not kill with an unlicensed - or unloaded - gun especially when there are witnesses present and/or the party in question has impregnated your daughter - right or wrong Sarah? while she was being groomed for her lomg over-run 15 minutes.
As for her future - anyone wanting to bet on ANY national political presence for her is welcome to throw away any nickels and dimes that they have left, after the Bush Bankrupts America and loots the piggy bank era has run its course, in the direction of gama bookmakers unlimited, who are salivating and rubbing their hands together with glee at the prospect.

so Gama I will admit if you won the election. You got an old coot and a CEO with no experience except Chicago politics which appears to be as corrupt as the Gambino family. You got what you wanted so lets see if you can stop the Bush bashing he is leaving and your guy will save the world. We will see what happens but I have to ask will you be so inclined to love your chosen one when he doesn't give you your welfare check and when he raises taxes on corporations and your jobs go overseas. Oh Bush didn't bankrupt America Barney Frank did.

What if all the news makers fought (literally) for media attention? My vote is for the polar bears.

Leon Panetta, in a loincloth and trident, battling a polar bear? Could be the media spectacle of the century. But given how long Panetta has survived in DC, I would feel sorry for the poor bear.

Dream on. Palin is going to come riding in on a helicopter and I'll bet a moose rifle won't have any trouble with any bear, polar or panda.

I have nothing personally against Panetta, but the choice of Panetta makes me wonder if Barack Obama doesn't take intelligence seriously. Would you ask your accountant to perform brain surgery on your child? That's the closest analogy I can find to the choice of Democrat Party hack Leon Panetta to head the CIA.
The director's job at the CIA isn't a party favor. This is potentially a matter of life and death for thousands of Americans and it is serious. I hope he is up to the job.

You might if the previous three brain surgeons killed your other children. Still, I do find Panetta a slightly weird choice.

I just wonder how well any of us knows Panetta... Perhaps Obama sees skills and talent in Panetta that we are not aware of. I hope.

77,000 views over a hundred comments and how many props? Man how many views does a story need to get a 10? It's been one lively week for me. A lot of comments, a lot of laughs, and a lot of fun. Actually I learned today that there is a person that thinks that I am a scout for the Propeller team. James could you send me my paychecks retroactive to the date of first hire? And James, nice post on the week in review.

Hey there, jovial. I'm afraid you simply project the quiet authority and raw sensuality that people associate with a Propeller Scout. As for your pay, I left a check in that hollow tree near your house.

You definitely don't come across as a member of the dirty mac brigade, James!
Incidentally I checked this in google to make sure that it would be comprehensible across the great water and found that it exists, kind of, in Polish:
English to Polish translation of dirty mac brigade: grupa starych zbocze?ców/napale?ców [Slang (Art/Literary)].
google translator to Czech is much more straight forward: špinavá mac brigády - the first word meaning dirty.

Hi JM, nice to see you back.....

"and a sincere wish that the next year will be a little easier on our collective nervous system. "

ROFLMAO!!!!! Have you seen the last couple of days??? Even with the election over the posts are still slamming people!!!!

Our new President Elect isn't even in office yet and is being faulted for the problems......belittled.....picked apart....blamed....accused of wrong doings......etc.

I have lost faith in a lot of people, I thought that perhaps we would unite in our countries time of need, instead there are still plenty of "dividers" and that is a very sad thing. I don't think this country will ever stand tall and together again.

Hi EE. I agree, the continuing strife can be discouraging, but I'm afraid I didn't expect a fairy-tale-like resolution to this tale, regardless of who bagged more electoral votes. I can only echo Tim's comment: hang on, be patient, don't lose faith.

I'm still here, I haven't given up, I had just hoped that the negative would stop and that we would come together and work for solutions to heal our country. I am a dreamer and at times still live in the 60's when we had high hopes of making a difference, changing for the better. Now we have a chance for a clean slate and there still are those that wish to tear down even before the building starts.

I get discouraged because I wonder why I even bothered when I see 30 years of work undone by the stroke of an idiots pen. I am having faith that our new leader will undo the midnight environmental law changes so we can recoup some of the loss.

I do enjoy my friends here on Propeller and the community as a whole, I just have to keep my bill shut at times.....

Welcome back James. Nice synopsis this week. I felt somewhat helpless and depressed at the bad news from Gaza as the myriads of articles posted piled up. I'm glad my perplexed notions caught your attention, To my way of thinking, Ghandi lost the battle but not the war, though Nelson Mandela may have been a better choice for the analogy.

It is amazing to me that there really do seem to be people within this ostensibly "superior" society who are able to persuade themselves that the "safety" of this country has somehow been defended by the sadists within "our" "intelligence" community who have managed to FOIST a burden of complicity in MURDER and TORTURE off on the American People. Now they try to cover their posteriors by "scaring" people to the effect that THEY are the ones with "experience in intelligence", and there should not be any real, meaningful cleaning out of their little rat's nest. I suppose it would be too much to hope that the new administration will actually muster the BALLS to SERIOUSLY flush terrribly many of these birds out from under their "cover". But I sure hope at at least a FEW of the MOST EGREGIOUS among them will actually be shot down!

My GOODNESS! Very well said sir!
The strangest thing is I could have written the above myself - to remain within the bounds of modesty, since I'm awarding kudos - not AS well.
Hmmm. You didn't attend a Religious Royal and Ancient Foundation in Sussex by any chance, or something of a similar nature did you?

Has anyone said--outloud, here in pixelated print--that the new Propeller now far outclasses the old in terms of:

                                  logical/intuitive ease of use;
                                  attractiveness;
scope--that is, it provides more an better options for happy social cross-contamination?

Well done, James! Well done, all!

Actually, Poulenc, you're the first to say that :). Look for a fruit-and-cheese basket in the other hollow tree. And a very Happy New Year to you!

                                      The formerly hollow tree, James.

It's begun to achieve piñata potential....

Oh--the other hollow tree. The one down by the grange.

                                        Sorry!

You got it. The one on the left, with the Size 7 sneakers dangling from one branch.
