Comments for Obama Camp 'Prepared To Talk To Hamas' »

Posted By tehranchik 11 months ago in Political News

The incoming Obama administration is prepared to abandon George Bush's doctrine of isolating Hamas by establishing a channel to the Islamist organisation, sources close to the transition team say.

The move to open contacts with Hamas, which could be initiated through the US intelligence services, would represent a definitive break with the Bush presidency's ostracising of the group. The state department has designated Hamas a terrorist organisation, and in 2006 Congress passed a law banning US financial aid to the group.

      An old friend of mine that dealt with such things as terrorists and their psychology always had a saying about terrorists and their organizations that I personally found intriguing yet true;

"When you negotiate with evil you validate it's premise and therefore validate it's existence."

Needless to say, I take it that the 0Bama Admin doesn't agree with that line of reasoning.
Hopefully they, Barrack and Co., fully understand who and what they are dealing with.

The evil that you are referring to is the democratically elected government of Gaza. Do you doubt it's existence?

So in your eyes you are validating HAMAS existence and therefore their premise that Israel should be eliminated as a State and therefore likewise for Israel's population.

Not the population. Anytime you have a theocratic state that doesn't give it's population equal rights based on religion you have a flawed system that can only become violent.

Just elimination of the 'State' of Israel not the people of Israel.
If so what would take its place? A 'Muslim State' which could be theocratic also? An UN Protectorate like Serbia and Bosnia?
I think this is what Israel is not going to let happen without one hell of a fight.

Any theocratic state that denies rights to it's citizens is doomed to a violent existence. Just look at the gay issues here and the level of discord that has caused.

Interesting 'redirect' from the rights of a Sovereign nation to exist to the rights of gay people.
So are gay people now a Sovereign nation with international recognition?

Maybe that's not the best analogy because we are not a theocracy either but there are people and forces in this country who strive to create a theocracy here. They have already been working toward the removal of rights from those that they disagree with. The passions and tensions are high and also the possibilities for violence. This has only really surfaced fairly recently. Imagine if it had been going on for generations as it has in Israel.

I agree with you in that there are powerful religious individuals that would love to turn the US Govt into a Theocracy. And yes, they do try to remove or suppress the rights of groups and people that disagree with them. ( It is really erie talking to them; they always try to convince you right from the 'get go' that they have a personal mandate from God to 'demand this and demand that from the Govt' because this is what God wants from a Christian Nation and they are the 'chosen messengers' of Gods personal demands.)

This is something that could be called a dangerous duality for our politicians in that they want and seek the support of the so called religious right, yet at the same time they do not want to appear to be overly supportive of the religious rights agendas' because of the real need to keep the Church out of the affairs of the US Govt.

Thank you for knowing better than I that my heart is filled with hate because I'm, in your opinion, 'a Bush person'.

That is very God like of you. I take it you are 'an 0Bama person'.

However, since I'm talking to an omnipotent individual, again I take it you are an 0Bama person, how do you derive the concept of a 'final solution' from what my friend said?

As for peace in the area he thought it to be "marginal to unobtainable" due to the age old anomosity between the Jews and the Muslims. Do you feel the same or do you know of a quick way to eliminate the 'old grudges' that poison the well between the two peoples?

Also, what, in your learned opinion, is a 'final solution' to this problem in the Middle East between Israel and the Palestinians or HAMAS or Hezbollah or Iran or....etc.... etc?

do you mean old grudges.... like a lack of autonomy for the palestinian people? where every aspect of every palestinian's life is controlled by israel even down to how far they can travel? or do you mean old grudges.... like how israel controls palestinian borders, airspace, land routes, ports, and fishing rights? or do you mean old grudges...... like where israel denies even the most basic human rights of the palestinians? or do you mean old grudges.... like how the palestinians don't even have their own country but how the concentration camps known as the palestinian territories are inside israel?

"Hamas describes its conflict with Israel as political and not religious or antisemitic."

                          Dishonesty? Lacking intelligence?

Here we go again with your extreme way of thinking. You really need to lighten up man.

But since you like to use words such as these in general, they can often be misinterpreted.
Black and white thinking means seeing the world only in terms of extremes.
How do you know what "dissent" is actually feeling? He gave his opinion on the matter and you took it to the next level.
It is better to look at the world in shades of gray than to look at it in black and white. Don't you agree?

Perhaps I should have directed that black and white thinking - statement to Ratskii, instead of you. But, no offence, you're not exactly an angel, either.

you are right in that "There isn't a quick solution, but as I've discussed before, brutalizing a powerless people isn't going to bring peace either."
Yet it would seem that there really is 'no quick solution' if there is a workable political 'solution' at all.

Hamas shot their way into government killing more Palestinians in the process than have fallen to the Israelies.

Our efforts to get Israel to hand over Gaza were based on a cease fire that Hamas never recognsed. Gaza immediately became a launching pad. Who paid for the rockets and the effort to sneek them into the country? Not a bunch of malnurished Palestinians. When you talk to Hamas who are you talking to really?

The logic which dribbles from the mind of a terrorist is something amazing to behold.

Let see, I fire thousands of rockets aimed at your civilian population over several years, I hide my army amongst my civilian population, and then when you attack me to stop the rockets I accuse you of "war crimes" because you must go through innocents to fire on my fearless warriors! RIGHT!

Hopefully Israel can wipe out these lunatics so there's a real chance for peace in the future...

the only way to save the live of the people that have nothing to do with hamas, is to kill hamas,,,the innocent people are the shield for hamas,,they are cold, calculating animals, that sacrafice their own. they dont want piece, they want to kill the jews, kill christians,,hell kill other muslims that arent radical enough for them,,,do you see a repeating pattern,,,kill because others are different.

The only way to kill 'hamas' is to kill the people who are innocent around them. Best to try another way. Whether or not 'you' think that will work is beside the point. It has to be done.

Anyone who laments the Palestinian casualties as if that were the only issue is simply showing which side he is on. So far the only thing I've heard Obama say is that he laments the Palestinian casualties.

The Hamas leader Ahmed Yousef was quoted last May saying: “We (Hamas) like Mr. Obama and we hope that he will win the election.”

                              I wonder why?

So his true self couldn't wait until he was sworn in as President to support Hamas and give them a moral boost until he is sworn in and can condem Israel. He will talk to people who don't deny that they don't believe the Jewish people have a Right to exist. Please, God help us. Does anyone see what is going to Happen. He is he putting in Charge of the CIA. Why it is that top spy Leon Penita ( A Clintonite who will destroy us)

Lets see, Hillary Clinton, Sec. of State, Leon Penita as head of the CIA. If Abbie Hoffman was still around I guess he would be Director of the F.B.I. Bill Richardson, Direc, OPPS, sorry he has to face a Grand Jury. Meet with Hamas, Meet with IRAN. What is Obama's middle name? Couldn't say it during the election, why thats so Racist. But I guess now that he has won he will use it, you know what it is? Huessan. Sorry about my spelling, I'm digging a tunnel. Would someone dig me out if my country is still here in 4 years.

If you look back at Democrat presidents and their method of waging war a clear preference for the surgical suicide mission appears. Remember Iran? Remember MoGu? I wonder if Obama somehow thinks that Israel should be doing that sort of thing so they can have plausible deniability in the odd chance of success. Or was I right the first time when I said he favors the destruction of Israel?
