    I had no idea there were so many of us 47-year-olds out here! And seriously, "That '70s Show" really did get it right. (I graduated high school in '79 as well.)

    The exact years used by commentators to distinguish a generation are arbitrary, but there really is a difference in the thinking of many born just a few years before us 1961ers and that of many born a few years after. It may have to do with the idealism of growing up during the post-war boom and the idealistic '60s versus the cynicism of coming of age during the Watergate years and after, when the outlook for teenagers wasn't so rosy...I don't know the cause. But I've noticed a definite difference.

      Part of the "cause" may have been the recession. Engineers and scientists were out of work in the mid-1970s and beyond, and the employment situation was bleak for many others, too.
