I have read your post, and have concluded that you have swerved into a topic not relevant to the subject of this thread.
And, I am not surprised, for that is a common element in your posts, wherein you either purposefully attempt to spin the discussion in the approximate direction of your thought or opinion, or unknowingly re-direct the discussion due to your lack of understanding of basic Biblical doctrine. Either way:
This thread IS about how the public actions of one human being brought attention to one of the most-recognized verses in the Christian Bible.
It IS about how one human being chooses to publicly express his faith, in the face of societal and pop culture pressure on Christians to "keep your faith a private matter," and "don't shove your religion into other peoples' faces."
It is NOT about prayer (public or private).
It is NOT about Tim Tebow attempting to achieve self-righteousness through prominent prayer. That's what the Matthew 6:5-6 is about.
Finally, the Christian Bible DOES NOT teach that ANY Christians should "keep their faith a private matter," despite allegations by some to that effect. That’s true even if you’re a powerful or religiously-connected citizen, such as a well-known athlete!
In case you doubt this, please read Mark 8:34-38, especially verse 38, wherein Jesus says “If anyone is ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, the Son of Man will be ashamed of him when he comes in his father’s glory with the holy angels.” Also, Luke 9:26 says the same thing, virtually word-for-word.
I could cite many more, but the format here limits that.........
So, I hope sometime soon, some athlete or person of prominence will publicly display the following Bible reference:
ROMANS 1:16
Which says: “For I am NOT ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”-

What does keeping one's faith a private matter have to do with shame? I'm sorry, but that must be your issue.
"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you." Matt 6:5-6
It's not about praying in private so much as it is about praying in public to be seen praying so that people will think you're an upright person. Rather than being an upright person and praying simply for prayer.
I don't pretend to know Tim Tebow's motivation, but seeing as how he's doing it during a football game, on national TV and how it's not commonly done I tend to think it's more about ego than anything else.
"“For I am NOT ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”"
Again -- what does praying in private have to do with shame? There's no shame to public or private prayer.
"I have read your post, and have concluded that you have swerved into a topic not relevant to the subject of this thread."
You can conclude whatever you want, but others brought up the topic of public v. private prayer. Not me. So, like most of your crap, your conclusions are wrong.
